May I know what did your friend write on that note? Did he leave his name and contact number?

Just ask him to tell the police accordingly and let them investigate it. I always believe you will not need to pay for crime that you never commit. Volunteer to take lie detector test to prove his innocence.

Dear members,

I am writing on behalf of a friend who had met with an accident late last year. I would like

to gather any information/advice/help possible as this accident case seems quite tricky and

neither my friend nor anyone he know are drivers experienced enough to know the possible outcome.

12/30/2010 - My friend was doing a delivery and had parked at a multi storey carpark to run

some errands. When he returned, he opened his door and intended to start the engine. However,

the van was still in 'reverse gear' and had cause the van to jerk backwards when he fired her up.

Since the door was still opened, it scraped the car on the right and the impact somehow was big

enough to cause the handle of the car to be dislodged from the door.

Both vehicles were parked "butt-in".

My friend did not feign ignorance and left a note on the car's windscreen, admitting to his mistake

and offered to pay for the repair charges. He left soon after thinking that it could be privately settled.

--------

1/3/2011 - There still wasn't a call from the owner of the car and my friend found something amiss.

He called up his insurance to report the matter to them (to cover his own a**) and conveyed exactly

what happened to them. They had instructed the van to be sent to IDAC for some photo taking.

However, in the afternoon, he received a letter from the police, stating that the van was involved in a

hit and run accident and summoned him to make a report with the police within 7 days. It was also

stated that someone had 'witnessed' the accident.

--------

My friend is still on P-plate. No photo evidence taken at the scene of the accident. All that was given was

a note on the car's windscreen.

Here's some questions which I hope to find answers to:

1. How long does the van need to be at IDAC for?

2. How is it possible that it is a hit and run accident when my friend did left a note? (could the witness removed it?)

3. Is it possible that witnesses of an accident case could have benefited in any way at all for being a 'witness'?

4. What may the possible outcome be?

I thank you for any help in advanced. My friend is now very extremely dejected as he has just gotten his license

and intended to use it to feed his family. And though he admitted his mistake and intended to take responsibility

over the case, he surely wasn't expecting a "hit and run"..

Is your friend God-fearing who do not dare to lie? If not, I think he did not leave a note that he claimed he did.. *YAWN*

Dear Pippo, as mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I give my friend the benefit of doubt.

But again anything he says are just words from one source, I agree.

Yes, he had left on the note the license plate number, name and contact number.

Could it be a misunderstanding then? The person might thought that the one who left the note is the witness who provided the plate number of the vehicle that caused the damage?

I just checked with my friend. He had claimed that the note was clear-cut which says "I had accidentally hit your vehicle.... .... do

contact me to discuss any repairs needed."

But then again, a contact number was given. A call from the 'victim' was expected though.

Now it leaves us pondering how come its classified as a hit and run if what my friend said was true; thus

my question if witnesses benefits from being a witness..

If it is nowa police case, the witness is unlikely to gain anything out of it.

Dear Osprey23, could you care to explain briefly to me how can a witness stand to gain if there's no police

involvement please?

involvement please?

Frankly, if I am to come forward as a witness, it will be just out of civic mindedness. No way that I will be looking for any reward.

That said, if I am to think of gaining something out of this, I will remove the note left by your friend and wait for the owner. When he appears, I will just tell him I saw the culprit and get the owner to give me a token sum for me to reveal the info. From the owner viewpoint, if what I am asking is not too much, he might be willing to pay me for the info in order to lodge a claim against the culprit, compare to making own damage claim.

This is pure speculation on my part. Best is to let the police investigate.

What I had mentioned to TS is exactly for low class Sinkie like you....

Of course, if Sinkie was high Class...'he would reply as in TS frd case..

'So what...what they want to claim from me?...tell that to my lawyer lah..O.K?'

But the above is not for you...

You would go round breaking laws and whether the State or some private individual pursue you for it is NOT the point..

The point is ...

You don't learnt anything good in life at all and have all the wrong notions about what life is for you!

Sorries....can't help there. :D

oh my... you think you are so up there sia...

Sinkie here Sinkie there... so where you from? why your country dont want you ah? or your country too hopeless...

yah lah yah lah... i dont know what good for me and there's nothing good in my life... so you must be god yah? you can define whats a fullfilling life... you know all thats right and wrong... wow...

A fulfilling life is different to each person. so please dont judge others the same way you were brought up...

and oh yah, you wanna call me a low class sinkie infront of my face?... got balls anot?

wahahahaha... bro your signature beri funny... [laugh]

there seems to be many possibilities now... feel like playing cluedo... haha [laugh]

just tell your friend to stick to his side of the story and we cant do much about watever decision insurance companies make anyways...

with regards to note on the car, if it was me i would just leave a name n contact... give car number like for what sia?

the thing now is can your frd contact the damaged car owner? if he is really speaking the truth abt the note then if there was a withness, can find out real or fake withness or the car owner trying to be funny?

but to sum it up, TS imagine you are one of us reading this thread, no one in this whole story is your frd... what will you bet your $ on... the delivery driver didnt leave a note right?...

so if i was your frd and i did leave a note, i sure will confront the car owner.. so is your frd willing to do that? the answer might simply show if he really left the note there in the 1st plc... [:p]

Hi Ken4555, thank you for your advice. That is what I have prompted my friend to do; that is to

speak to the owner of the car directly. I have told him to mention in the report (both police and

insurance) that he wishes to see if there is any way of getting hold of the other party's contact..
