Wait... i thought the 89k model comes with the sunroof while the 88k doesn't? so it means all of the new elantra has no sunroof? disappointing

Caddilac Neutral Newbie April 10, 2011 Share April 10, 2011 Bro, Did you check with the SE is the new Elantra (Avante) comes with the GDI engine or the old engine of the current Avante? If it comes with the old engine, then I find that the new Elantra is not worth the $$ for a new car. Cos both US and Korea model comes with the new GDI engine that comes with 138BHP. We should be getting a new engine but not GDi version... 1.6 Gamma Dual CVVT 130hp... The previous Avante was using Gamma with single CVVT 122hp... FYI US Elantra got no GDi... US Elantra is using an all new Nu series engine 1.8 Dual CVVT with 148hp...

I believe they will increase the price because you cant get any car within 100k to have such a fantastic list of equipment + the sexy look...
Caddilac Neutral Newbie April 10, 2011 Share April 10, 2011 1.6 gives 138bhp? so happening? Hyundai is crazy with their engine tuning now... Their 2.4GDi got 198hp and 1.8 MPI got 148hp... Then a new Gamma 1.6Turbo will have 208hp and another Kappa 1.2Turbo will have 130hp...
Caddilac Neutral Newbie April 10, 2011 Share April 10, 2011 I can only say they are not doing business honestly, how can they request those early bird booking to further topup... Last week i got the news from one SE, he told me they only bring in 2 models - basic & higher spec models, for higher spec selling at 89k. OMV for basic is ~11k, high spec ~14k. SE told me their boss said for those choose higher spec model surely will get the COE, while those choose basic model (especially those early bird booking) will have to wait for COE price drops... So that end up, we got only one choice left... I think the car doesn't worth 89k for OMV only 14k, total mark-up ~17%. Chevy cruze 2011 model, OMV ~13k and ppl only selling at 82k, comes with most of the higher spec that the SE mentioned for Avante 2011 higher spec... If they continue to mark-up the price, i think this new model will end up like i45 destiny, only HOT in forum but less will be seen on the road... P/S: the showcar that coming soon to showroom next week will be left hand drive version, so can only see, no test drive... For those interested to go down, you can double check with them before going down... But then if people are looking purely on OMV they should always go for the Japanese... The problem is that the Korean always give a lot of things at low OMV and some people will complain about their low OMV... Actually OMV is nothing but just a figure... OMV doesn't provide any real value to your ownership of a car... You may think that it doesn't worth the money but in the real world you can't get anything better than that... Does higher OMV provides you more equipment, better drive, sexier design or better resale value?

New Hyundais are having diet so they are pretty light now... Figure from US, the Elantra 1.8 is 2701lbs while the Altis 1.8 is 2800lbs.. which is about 45kg lighter... In US the fuel consumption of new Elantra is fantastic... Some media can achieve 42.3mpg(17.9km/liter) on highway cruising at 130km/h

Abachee 2nd Gear April 10, 2011 Share April 10, 2011 Dont watch the US review lar, as they are all 1.8L one. View "Avante MD" and you will able to see one of the review done by a korean man with spectacle on wearing blue long sleeve polo tee review. No doubt I dun understand a single word what he say. But I appreciate the overall video clip of the Korean version of 1.6L Avante

Civic6228 6th Gear April 11, 2011 Share April 11, 2011 as mentioned by our bro Xjtcbx, the SE told him that the first shipment was fully booked, that's why they now have the confident to go up the price at such a short period, as this is very common practise for car dealers to test the market respond lol. Btw, i did not know how many units for the first shipment, and what is the combination? Of course, KM knows the Elantra can sell, the first shipment has been fully booked ..... The current Avante was the best selling car in Y2009, I see the same potential with the new model. In Singapore, buying is car is never a rationale decision, cars are expensive. Value for money ???? In Singapore, this term does not apply .... 3 series at 200k ?, Fluence at 90k ? Elantra at 90K ? It is about "affordability" and how much one is prepared to spend on a car. A Towkay may decide to buy a Camry when he well afford to buy a Merc. Whereas a SE may buy a BMW and struggle every month with the installment. To each his own and everyone has a choice ... some people will not buy Elantra when they are selling at 40K but there are some that are prepared to pay 90k for the new model...
