Proton_neutron 1st Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 when those manufacturers design the cars, they mated 6AT with the new engine not the outdated engine. This is for optimisation. so whats the point of these ADs to bring in 6AT on outdated engines???? Actually, is not that they don't want to bring in the 1.6GDI 140bhp version. But our petrol quality with high amounts of sulphur and other additives prohibits the reliable usage of GDI engines here. The salesman I spoke to was saying it'll have 130bhp, instead of the Forte's 125bhp, so I'm guessing it's just another bore and stroke thing. ↡ Advertisement
Heartbreakid 6th Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 Other than the fuel quality issue that would have caused potential reliability problems to GDi engine, another factor is the cost factor. The manufacturer can provide a full list of equipment but it is the product manager of the Authorised Dealer here who will choose the equipments base on the overall cost of the car. Well, obviously whoever is in-charge of packaging the Avante for local sales is reponsible for what features goes and what not gets into our local car. As long as it betters the current Avante 'S', which is really as basic as you can go, the Avante would probably take off in sales. Current Avante owners have literally walked into the showroom to book the new Avante. In fact, KMC don't really have to do much marketing to get enough bookings for this current COE climate. Mugen85 1st Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 hmm...what kind of "ge lian kia xiao" u calculating???? based on your assumption above, u willing to pay 5k more for altis just to get omv higher by another 4-6k, isn't LPPL? Nope. What I'm trying to calculate is that there is a very slight price difference between the two models. And for that small price difference, I will choose a Toyota. Well, the Mercedes E200CGI and E250CGI are using GDI technology, so is Volvo's and Ford's 2.0Turbo EcoBoost. But where all animals are equal, some are more equal than others. They're not the same for every car equipped with GDI.
Mugen85 1st Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 The Koreans are getting better and better ......... nvr heard of Samsung or LG electronics products 10/15 years ago, but look at the market now ....... LG, Samsung have LED/LCD TV that are on par with the Jap brands like Panasonic, Sony etc. IMO, Samaung has even overtake NOKIA in mobile phone and they are getting very popular. The Koreans has come a long way and I would prefer a new MIK Avante against a MIT Toyota ALTIS. Especially the 4-Speed Gearbox used on the ALTIS. I cannot comment about the reliability as I have never owned a MIK car but I have never heard my friend driving the current Avante complaining about the car. Agree that the koreans are getting better but I'm someone that will wait till the coast is clear before stepping in. Meanwhile still staying with jap ride. Avante at $10700 Altis at $16100 Shall wait and see the new avante OMV Yes, the last few batches of the current, outgoing Avante has low OMV, but when the car first came, the OMV was around $14-15k. So I believe the same would happen with the new Avante. Edited February 28, 2011 by Proton_neutron

It more like KMC is pulling the BM stunt just like their Altis. If the latest model is designed to use the GDI engine then it should come together with it or else it is as good as we are being short changed. GDI engine provides more than just power alone but also in terms of efficiency and emission.

I don't believe Hyundai is so silly to make a engine with so little tolerance in the kind of fuel used especially for a B&B car. Any official statement from Hyundai to back up KMC's claim? Why do you think the Mitsubishi GDI engine didn't catch up? Anyways, the Kia Forte KDM (Korean Domestic Model) is also available with 1.6GDI 140bhp. You might as well ask why C&C Kia didn't bring that engine in? Same answer.

Those who own Mitsubishi with GDi they know that it is a problematic issue, that is why Mitsubishi didn't go far with that. Local fuel quality is good, but still might not suit GDi engine well. But from Mitsubishi GDi that is nearly 10 years ago, today's technology for GDi should improve better to address the fuel quality issue. Well, this question reminds unknown until we got response from those who own a GDi engine car and also for local A.D.s to bring in GDi Korean rides to prove their reliability down the years on local roads. But for local market, cost is always the issue. Edited February 28, 2011 by Heartbreakid
