Avante, elantra is 5th in small cars, beating corolla which is currently 22nd place. Of coz their countries ranking system prob much different. So hard to compare. Their chevolet cruze is 3rd or 4th if no wrong ↡ Advertisement

Alfisti168 1st Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 (edited) That is really rubbish to blame it on our fuel quality. It more like KMC is pulling the BM stunt just like their Altis. If the latest model is designed to use the GDI engine then it should come together with it or else it is as good as we are being short changed. GDI engine provides more than just power alone but also in terms of efficiency and emission. Yup it is really rubbish to blame it on fuel quality, but I think performance will still be pretty good, since they engineered the new avante to weigh around the same as the old model. 13177 Hypersonic February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 Your ranking is based on sales or reviews? Anyways I'm certain the new Avante will sell as good as the current model. Confirmed the new avante will sell as good as the current model, but due to high COE price and i seriously don't think it will sell well. Not because the new avante no gd, it is because price too ex lo.

TandemAssassin 1st Gear February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 Same as current 'S' model of around $15k.... If it is around $15k then the avante is not a bad buy at all at $79k in light of current COE prices.

Blackyv Turbocharged February 28, 2011 Share February 28, 2011 seriously, i dont know why people keep saying 79K at current coe price is expensive... many years ago, i paid 67K for a vios (coe around 24k) and my colleague paid 72K for a vios also but 1-2yrs ealier than mine......, so, 80K for this new avante is not that expensive actually... it's quite inline with the "market"....hehehe.... no point in argueing what is expensive and what is cheap,.. just buy what u can afford and like.... im sure if im to change car, avante is top on my list .... and i hope the steering is not too light like current model... years ago, i bought latio and not avante (5K more than what i paid for my latio..) because of the light steering feel which i dont like... Well, the review puts it as the new Avante having the steering feel and response just lacking behind the Mazda 3. and Yes, please live in the present. There's no point looking back at the past of low COE prices. We live in the now, not past. New Avante 1.6L $79,999. HOnda Civic 1.6- $110,900. Toyota Vios 1.5J- from $79,988. Toyota Altis Classic- $87,988.
Hosaybo 6th Gear March 1, 2011 Share March 1, 2011 I guess too many are sore abt the price having missed the boat. In current context, I think the new Avante is a pretty good buy at 79K

But too bad during the period of 2005-2009 where COE price suddenly dropped to $15K and below. Many pple would then use this as the benchmark that COE price should be low. Anything which is more than $25K is consider ex! If looking at present, $80 for new avante not a bad deal. Edited March 1, 2011 by 13177

Well yeah, the Koreans have outdone the Japanese in terms of R&D. And I think you can compare then to the Germans now. Imagine giving the Germans $15k and asking them to come out with a mid-sized sedan. See what they can come out with such a low budget. I don't think it'll be anywhere near as good as the Avante. Honestly if is me I rather go for the latest model. For new models, your resale in future will also be better. If u intend to sell in 2 to 4 yrs time and at the same time old model in the mkt, I m sure your car body value can get slightly better price. In terms of Specs, I think 6 speed should hv better fc. Not sure what current model speed is. And I saw the 130hps so is pretty decent. In terms of exterior, honestly the new one really looks better. See if you can test drive the new model to get the feel. I think by test driving u should be able to judge better. Juz my humble views...
