Cerano 1st Gear March 19, 2011 Share March 19, 2011 actually I wonder why would anyone buy an a class or a b class..it is freaking expensive and the performance is noticeably not as good as the c class..the A class list price only 3k lower than C180 and B200 is even more ex than C180.. actually such gimmicks of "value adding" doesn't work on me..maybe it does on others.. i would think that budget is the single most pressing consideration other than that maybe the A/B class are quite suitable for them especially if they have a small family size? ↡ Advertisement

I thot so too...but then again I have sat in a B class before and find the cabin space not any smaller than C class...I only felt that with the price the entry B class is selling at (which is only a few k cheaper than C180), is not very worth it as it has only 116 bhp, a torque of only 155 nm and 0-100 is only 11.3 secs..not very impressive leh.. In fact im seeing B class customers to be fitting this profile mostly young professionals who later on upgrade

Miles 4th Gear March 21, 2011 Share March 21, 2011 Actually i kinda prefer the current interior and exterior. the FL interior looks abit cramp and is going towards bmw style We will have to wait to see if they put 7 g tronic in the 4pots. Unfortunately, new FL C 4 pot comes with 7Gtronic standard... :( Wonder if they'll bring in the C250CGi ... Cd dropped to 0.26 (from current 0.28)... century sprint is shaved half a sec. So FL C180CGi with 7Gtronics will have about the same century sprint as the current C200CGi with 5speeder.

C&C can request for the specs that they want for the local market. Unless Germany had decided to stop using the 5 Speeder entirely else we may still get the 5 Speeder. We have to wait to see what C&C decided on the type of transmission for the FL model. As a matter of fact, Singapore is the few countries with the 1.6 Kompressor with 5 Speed AUTO. In Europe the 1.6 Kompressor is the entry level with a manual gearbox.

Kangadrool Supersonic March 21, 2011 Share March 21, 2011 (edited) mercs hv an automatic hill hold function. works even in D. Saw a old manual Merc W124 for sale 2 years back. Just wonder how to control when moving up slope. Very tempted, but it does not help that the dealer refused me to test drive. So, gave it a miss. The car is still on sale today. LOL... and it has appreciated by 100% (from 14K to 28K now). Edited March 21, 2011 by Kangadrool

Yup, for manual car it is still preferable to have handbrake rather than foot-operated parking brake whether it has or don't have hill-assist function. Doubt it has hill assist for W124. So, gave it a miss. Otherwise, need to be an octopus in order to drive this car.

So i am not the only one.... I have lost count how many times I actually drove off without realeasing the parking brake. W124 may be a lao pok car, but it remain the last "over engineered" Merc and IMO, it is still better than a lot of cars out there despite it's age. Soya Supersonic March 21, 2011 Share March 21, 2011 C200CGI OMV is abt $46k. COE is $62k. The total basic cost of car + COE is oredi $167k. The B200's RRP is abt that price too. Hence, the deal is onli true if C&C's business model is to run a company, employ hundreds of staff, invest hundreds of millions into advertising, buying land to set up a showroom, service centres, pay millions in corporate taxes.....juz to make $0 profit on their volume seller? Premium brand pricing is never transparent or easily understood. Like they say, if it's too good to be true, it prob is.
Topspin 2nd Gear March 21, 2011 Share March 21, 2011 (edited) Hi, anyone check out the recent C&C buy B200 and get free upgrade to a C200 promotion? Is it logical? You need to go down and talk with the sales personnel to realise that it is just a gimmick. They only wanted to bait you to their showroom and get interested enough to buy one. I went there once late last year. The promotion then was get a E200 for the price of a C200. Technically they are correct but there are so many conditions to fulfil. Anyway, they are using the "gross" price of C200 for their comparison. There is no free lunch. Edited March 21, 2011 by Topspin
