The problem is he is married and has a 1 yr old son who will go with him for one of the job is he choose it. He has a few years of working experience in oversea. Job A: 1) In singapore 2) Monthly pay ard 7K+ 3) Pay is before tax 4) MNC 5) Company produce commercial product Job B: 1) Oversea in china 2) Monthly pay including allowance is at least 30% more than job A 3) Pay is after tax 4) MNC 5) Semiconductor industry The problem with his dilemma is over his son. He can work long term oversea but his son will be going to school in another 2 years and it will probably be difficult to find another new job in sg if he wants to come back by then. Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Which part of China? There is an International School in China where lot of Singaporean child attend. Forget whether in Putong or Shanghai. Since Job B has higher offer, got for it......

SimonTan 2nd Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Well your friend has already made up his mind when he wished his son to study in Singapore. Unless your friend is willing to quit before his son turns 7 and register primary1. Five years is a long way to go........he might find a nice china wife for the son over there. I say take the one with a higher pay! The 30% aka S$2100++ per month extra over five years....is like WOW...can buy a new car when he comes back and settle down for the son sake!! Not forgetting his properties here, rentals and value will also helped a lot towards the bank account!
Baretooth Neutral Newbie August 1, 2011 Author Share August 1, 2011 He's going over to shanghai but will be moving again after some time to another part of china to setup a new plant. Prospect wise he told me it's about the same for both jobs as both are new setup of considerable size, although the one in china is much much bigger. Yes, the 30% is very tempting which make all the decision so hard!
Kangadrool Supersonic August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 (edited) Must look at other perks also. Shanghai is very expensive. Got house, maid, car cum driver (most important thing to have) thrown in anot? Edited August 1, 2011 by Kangadrool

Porker Turbocharged August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 30% extra for overseas posting is not alot really. Would have expected more.
Jman888 Moderator August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 family is one main concern or THE main concern if he treasure his family. worrying about coming home and couldn't get a job is also a valid concern which many are facing and end up going back cos companies hiring him only look at his overseas experience. Tigerwoods Turbocharged August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 30% more and net pay is no big deal. If overseas pay > 50% then go lodging shd be provided, family go there also. If wife now working then the Pay in China must compensate more for lost of imcome of wifey = 2X his SG pay...
Baretooth Neutral Newbie August 1, 2011 Author Share August 1, 2011 i heard from him that nowadays quite difficult to find company that pay very good expatriate package, 30% + is considered not bad already. Now the decision to go or not to go is affected very much by his child as he wants his child to grow up in a singapore environment

No more hardship allowance since it is more enjoyable than their home countries. For Singaporeans who's going over to China, India, and other 3rd world or developing countries, reckon it's fair to expect more "hardship" allowance. Unless one is at the TOP TOP management, our salaries (those at middle mgmt, engineering/technical profession) are mostly quite depressed already at home. So, 30% more is nothing. Jamstart 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 For me, I will choose the first one as I will definitely miss my family and friends here. Money is not everything, happiness is. Imagine 7k per month, for an average family, this is quite alot liao. If you are oversea, you work and work, can expect spend lesser time with family. Now the decision to go or not to go is affected very much by his child as he wants his child to grow up in a singapore environment 30% is not good at all. It translates to $2100 extra. That is approx. $100 per day over 20 working days per month. Its the same or even less than what one will get as a daily allowance for overseas trips. That company B is stiffing him on his deal. I would think first option is the better one.
Maroon5 5th Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 i feel both are in such different industries, is your fren in backend role? in my view, it seems taking job A can satisfy the son aspects. in terms of tax, 7k+/mth but w child allowances, i thk wont b much. ↡ Advertisement
