5936 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 (edited) Saw these similar sized tyres of 3 brands stacked up. Same size but different heights were observed. I masked the brands and ratings given by the dealers so we can focus on the stacked height. Which group of tyres would you choose and why? Or the thicker ones come with rim protector?
Mkl22 Supersonic August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 quite common for tires to have different widths even if their sizes are the same. i will go for brands. So far Michelin and Bridgestone fits. Maybe Toyo also.

Mkl22 Supersonic August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 All 195, not different widths, if labelling is correct... marked as 195. but when you actually measure. it is not 195 la. go ask any tire shop or go do the measurement yourself. i can easily show you a few tires(different brand and model) marked as 195 but when placed side by side you will see one bigger than the other. eg. 195/55/15 for Bridgestone RE-11 is different in width from 195/55/15 of GR-
Hondavvvtec 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Sorry i dont understand. why would the width be different? lets say 225/45/17, they can possibly give u 245 and tell u thats 225.
Nightsky 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Because 195 is contact patch width la.. Not end to end width.. Some tyres have a protruding design at the sidewall to help protect the rims and prevent the curb rash, which may cause the stacked height to be higher.. Nightsky 1st Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 Correct me if I'm wrong, two the tyres are GT Radials and Yokohamas?
KVR666 Neutral Newbie August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 (edited) Some tyres have rounded sidewall edges, others have squared edges. Generally speaking, those with rounded edges are slightly more biased towards comfort & low noise, while those squared edged designs tend to have stiffer sidewalls & a slightly wider contact patch on the threads towards the edge for better handling capability. Both types of design may or may not have a larger, protruding bead or what most people call "rim protectors". Edited August 1, 2011 by KVR666
SimonTan 2nd Gear August 1, 2011 Share August 1, 2011 I buy the center pirelli tyre. Money for value...buy 195 is like buying 205 compared to the other two!
Dldm Neutral Newbie August 2, 2011 Share August 2, 2011 very common as sidewall shapes r rounded, squareflat. i guess rounded 1 sidewalls shd b more comfy than d square flat ones depends on the sidewalls thickness
