Aeromania 1st Gear September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 Current STI (hatchback) is black caliper with STI printed on it. Previous 2 models MY03 and 05 are the gold one. it seems like accident caused it because this is where the screws will secure the caliper to the knuckle and only outside is damaged. TS u bought the caliper from previous owner or u bought a car with it? I'm guessing you bought a car that came with it la coz if u bought the caliper only sure will check one right. ↡ Advertisement
Gendut 2nd Gear September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 From the photo and yr description leading to brake fluid leak , my conclusion is the brake female fitting threads are damaged due to cross threads. Most likely is due to inexperience mechanics trying to fit the flared male fitting to the thread hole without success and end up using force resulting in cross threads. The thread were pull off when the brake fluid built-up hydraulic pressure because of poor thread contacts ( cross thread). Very poor mechanical skill and definelty using improper tools. If this poor workmanship work does result in a road accident, in countries like US Uk or Aust, the insurance company will defintely arrow the shop owner. But here cars owners bear the cost to provide training for those grease monkeys !! My sentiments exactly. Then to repair the damage, those monkeys put on putty metal repair compound. Idiots. These people should be charged in court for attempted manslaughter.
Gendut 2nd Gear September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 (edited) thanks bro. current brake kit have been re-work with some welding done. so far of the ride still alright. braking is there juz tat i wont drive tat fast like i used to be. safety 1st. Please do not drive with these on your brakes. You will end up killing someone. Someone and your life is not worth saving that whatever dollars to replace them!!!! to think welding will solve this problem. Most calipers are casted. They must never be welded on. You are agmblimg with people's lives. Be warned. Edited September 5, 2011 by Gendut

It's just suay that you met a dishonest seller. Get another caliper or back to stock first then slowly work towards another BBK for your safety coz under such damage, no matter how u repair it, it will still wear off and I believe you wun feel confident of this damaged brakes after all and nobody wants to pay hard earned money to feel unsafe. Aeromania 1st Gear September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 Get the red wrx calipers which is 4 pots (which shld be a direct bolt on to your car), slotted rotor, SSBH and better brake pads will be more than enough already seriously. And is much cheaper. FYI current impreza and wrx are using 2 pots front and 1 pot rear as stock brakes.

Defensive practice is good, but no guarantee that you will not encounter situations where you depend on effective emergency braking to save yourself for being hurt. Get the best braking systems for yourself. It may cost you a bomb, but you are worthy of more than that. Badder Neutral Newbie September 6, 2011 Share September 6, 2011 first......how long is your ride and is the caliper stock that come with ride? from what i see from the broken parts it seen to have broken deal to age..... cos i think the materials is cast iron and when in contact with heat,it will weaken the strenght of cast iron. and when opening the hose for brake lining it cracks. unlikely it it wrong tools that cos as the hose normaly discontinue with 12 or 14 open spanner! just my 01 cent..... you cant get calipers to anywhere near the kind of temps that could change the properties of cast iron. The brake fluid would boil first and you would crash and die. cast iron doesnt 'age' to any appreciable degree

Badder Neutral Newbie September 6, 2011 Share September 6, 2011 Brake hose CANNOT remove by open end spanner,it needs a special spanner,it looks like a ring spanner with an opening gap. not true
Ken4555 1st Gear September 6, 2011 Share September 6, 2011 i'm not too sure abt the gold brembo but i have seem many TS ride using gold brembo. they said black 1 is for the sti hatchback version. the brake kits is damn new as wad the seller claim. so i didnt suspect much. kinda of bad luck sigh... guess its just bad luck... there are many parts of a car i will never buy 2nd hand... but then again its just me... when i got my VTTRs, i was offered a set of 2nd hand brake calipers set from a skyline... and it was also cheaper... but i declined... many say VTTRs are just fake Endless made in Taiwan... but i think its much better built then many other taiwan calipers out there... and bets of all i can use endless pads.. just my 2cents

Jphua Neutral Newbie September 6, 2011 Author Share September 6, 2011 though i still have some questions in mind, hopefully some bros here can enlighten/share with me. 1) normally, wad's the life span for the brake kits like tis? 2) wad's the interval range to service/overhaul the caliper? 3) does tis caliper produce metal squeal sounds during low speed braking & ESPECIALLY reverse parking braking? during reversing, the sounds is unbearable, is tis normal? many thanks in advance
Ken4555 1st Gear September 6, 2011 Share September 6, 2011 thanks bro ken tik ur words make sense, will be more careful when dealing with 2nd hand stuffs cheers no lah actually its different ppl have different knowledge on the aspects of a car... some have more experiences on owning and modifying one... example you, i dont think you will ever buy a 2nd hand caliper from now on, or maybe you will be extra extra careful and check properly... for someone else example an average Joe if he was offered a very good deal to get 2nd hand Brembo for his car he will be so excitied and wanna install asap but probably forgetting to double check or get 2nd opinions on the condition of the brake set... my friend will buy 2nd hand tyres... i would never... those tyre just out of a showroom car not counted, to me they are new... i will never get 2nd hand seats... unless i re-wrap the the seat... my frd bought a bride replica 2nd hand... not for me i wouldnt... happy and safe driving... Yeobh 4th Gear September 9, 2011 Share September 9, 2011 If you are a workshop owners, for more than 2 decades, you will realise that many specialty wrenches you purchased ( if they are still around) may not be of much use in our new modern cars where the bolt and nuts are locate in very tight spacing that left very little wrench space. It will be foolish to use over physical size wrenches to service the modern cars. In the good old days, many equipment maintenance fitters will carry one adjust spanner, one 1lb hammer and one long flate screwdriver. Today your cars comes not only hex bolt and nuts, philip and flat screws but with Torx, Spine, five sided tampered screw etc etc. ↡ Advertisement
