Hard question to answer, and I am not the right person.

But if you go read international reviews, RR is tradtionally thought of as the king of the off roaders...

I believe Unimog another good one for off-road

I also like Land Rover. I love especially the Discovery 4 - superb space & offroad power. But they are so expensive to own!!! Even the small Land Rover Freelander is nice.

Land Rover is also sponsoring the Camel Trophy contest, an annual offroad race make-up of teams from different countries. The Defender is often used for this race, althought got one time they used the Range Rover. I like to watch that on TV, but its mediacorp don't show it lor

Such off-road races/expedition very entertaining. [thumbsup]

Wow...I could type a 5000 word essay to answer this - and still only skim the surface. There are so many reasons that it just defies a simple answer, but simple answer I will try to provide.

First and foremost - Range Rover is the ORIGINAL SUV. Yes, that's right, Land Rover invented this category when they took their "work horse" 4WD vehicles upmarket.

Secondly, a Range Rover is still the best off road SUV that you can buy. It outclasses everything else on offer from the competitiors - from the Cayenne to the X5 to the XC90 to the Q5.

Thirdly, there is a certain brand associated with Range Rover that has been very successfully built - to people with a background similiar to mine, Range Rover is synonomous with luxury off roader, and ALWAYS will be. No matter what. Forever. End of story.

Agree on all counts :D Besides, Royalty/ Tycoon & Gangstas all love the Rangie be it Range Rover or Range Rover Sports.

all four wheels can tilt different angles and directions, still move forward (saw this at river bed in ROC, all the rock were 1m diameter, scattered all over the sloppy river bank, the rover just moved/crawled quite effortlessly :o ........at some points, the veh was tilted 30deg slangting...

Right smack on bro, however the 'truck' can also stand at some awkward angle on 3 wheels & yet door can open & shut beautifully- body shell is damn stiff.

Thanks for the info. Btw, how far behind are SUVs like Landcruisers, Pajero (excluding the exclusiveness n luxury, which these two can in no way match the RR)??

land Cruiser versus Land Rover Disscovery

BMW X6 Versus land Rover- Range Rover

pay attention at approx 4 min 28 sec part & you'll laugh yourself silly

BMW X5M versus Audi Q7 V12 win Turbo versus range Rover

Hard question to answer, and I am not the right person.

Agree yet again with you but it's also known as the Rolls Royce of the SUV world

I believe Unimog another good one for off-road

Unfortunately, it doesn't have the 'go' or handling for the normal roads pplus missing the refinement & luxury of the RR.

This is what car has to say

Clarkson is a huge fan of Range Rover, and it shows -

But the videos do show exactly why I love Range Rover....

You do have to remember though that its main purpose is to be able to go off road....

highend RangeRover... :D

i saw one overtaking everyone from the left lane at super highspeed, later saw it cut back into right lane in front of his boss's ferrari and continued to 'clear' the road for the ferrari

when the ferrari really opened up later at 230kmh, the RR stepped one side and followed behind... (RR maybe not too stable at 230kmh, so could only 'open road' up to that speed.

was eyeing an used discovery few years back, tested it and was really impressed with its capabilities.... but ended up spending slightly less for an used Pajero.... no regrets though I wish I had taken it to more rugged off-road trips before i sold it [:)]

range rovers are the premium of land rover, u can read reviews and watch videos from all sources, it gives u confidence in difficult situation, eg facing a 30 degree incline, have enough power for u to pull through, super comfortable compared to it's competitors in those situation, it looks super grand compared to them too...

land rover on the other hand are built to last, and i think that's what make them lose out in a long run cause their supporters still driving the first land rover they bought. in singapore most ppl buy cars for their looks instead of what is capable of doing. like discovery, freelander, how many owners really bring them out to the wildness where they belong? defenders simply put off most regular drivers/owners as it can't enter most multi story carparks

defender is still one of my liking, but the height turns me off

just my 2cent...

Range Rovers are the Rolls Royce of SUVs.

There are 2 companies making land rovers.

One for military Land Rovers and the other makes commercial Land Rovers ( Freelander, Discovery, Range Rover and also commercial grade Defender)

There are huge demand worldwide for Land Rovers. Several years ago when I was on executing a project, we needed, Land Rover Defender, but waiting time for military grade is 2 years, no ex-stock. In the end we settled for commercial Defender 2.5TDI.

When I was 16-17yo, I was in school cadet, sat on LR and loved the engine, details to finishing and the roar of the rides, learn to ride while observing the army driver on the terrain, he allows me to test-drive sitting next to me, it was fun and exciting engaging gears, going round & round the parade square. . . those moment still excite me.
