Hi everyone, looking at getting a 2011/12 Mini Cooper Countryman. I looked through a lot of the previous post and noticed that water leak seems to be an issue even with low mileage usage and a few are advising not to get too old minis... Just want to see if there are other views?

Thanks!

The engine bay is very tight and hot.  Water leak is common with hardening rubber.

I have Cooper S hatch.  My hose was replaced around the 5th year.

Labour charge will not be cheap

thanks for sharing. Any issues with huge/high humps and all given the low ground clearance?

looking at rides with low mileage (<60k)

Hello. I am an owner of a cooper bought in 2015 October. I was in love with the car until last year. The car since 2020 has become a nightmare. The problems  are:

A  engine oil seepage

B  coolant leak - surprisingly there was no sign or warning. Drove off one morning and the car alerted me that the engine was overheated. Checked and found out there was no coolant

C. Windscreen reservoir leak

D. Air compressor spoilt and need replacement

E. Brake pad sensor not working  - went for regular servicing and was alerted that the pads and callipers need replacement

F. Engine mounting worn out and in a bad state according to mechanic

G. Left rear light housing  all the bulbs burnt out at one go. Was told the grounding of the wires caused it

H. Rotor at the gear lever - that ring losy it's solid click when turned. Suddenly it can again  very weird

I. Stop start- since 2020 the car can't decide to stop or not and it resulted in the car shuddering to jumping

J  gear lever cover- it flew offa few days ago. This has never happened to my other cars

Then there are observations that are unexplained:

1  tyre puncture senior was activated but found out that it was triggered off by uneven tyre pressure

2. Steering  was told that it could be wheels alignment that caused the car having a preference to keep steering left. But after all it without any work done it stop

3  between late December and early I had the tryes. The car since then experienced a significant drop in braking capabilities. Again one unexpyed morning the car starts to brake nicely. Very weird.

4 reverse senor ' very unpredictable. Some time all it take was a person walking behind and other times no repond

engine oil seepage - Seep out from where?

B  coolant leak - surprisingly there was no sign or warning. Drove off one morning and the car alerted me that the engine was overheated. Checked and found out there was no coolant

This is normal.  Engine bay heat will cause premature wear of coolant hose.

C. Windscreen reservoir leak

D. Air compressor spoilt and need replacement

E. Brake pad sensor not working  - went for regular servicing and was alerted that the pads and callipers need replacement

Warning from sensor will be trigger only when brake pad reaches its minimum thickness

F. Engine mounting worn out and in a bad state according to mechanic

I guess you are driving F56 (2L).  I am driving R56 (1.6L).

My car has replaced water coolant pipe, shock absorber and shock mounting.

Replacement of coolant piping will have a high labour cost.

Headlight & Bumper need to come out before any work can be done.

Not advisable.  The worry is the car may not be properly maintained.

If die die must buy, get YEAR OF MANUFACTURING 2010 onwards (Engine code N18) as well as get Mini specialist to check before purchase.

Conti cars are the worst to buy as coe. Even more so mini. Good luck or you need a fat wallet.

@Mkl22 Any panel beating ws that can adjust the window?

maybe you can try sin hock heng upholstery at sin ming. they did my old car headliner and sunroof.they replace windscreen and  glass too. but yours is more of a mechanical issue so a regular workshop is better.
