I believe their fleets of unmarked vehicle are Hyundai Avante, Toyota Corolla Altis(new and old), Subaru Impreza(new and old), also the Honda Civic Hybrid. Most of them are white except corolla altis and impreza. Anyway, try and spot them. I think their unmarked are mostly without much decal. If you see those with HDB decal or country club one, you are quite safe. If you see only roadtax and 1 unknown decal, better be street smart a bit.

Well, the hard truth is, it is mainly a revenue exercise by the government.

 

Traffic offenders are much easier to catch than drug traffickers, rapists and murderers.

Most (sane) folks will not fight or try to escape for a traffic offence, just pay whatever the fine and move on.

It is safe and easy money for the traffic police.

 

Think about it, it is a very easy to mandate the installation of speed limiters in cars here, Japan used to do it (JDM cars had a hard speed limiter at 180 km/h), set the limiter at 100km/h, or be "super high tech" and have GPS-based systems which further reduces this limit when it senses the car is in a built up area, or carpark etc. Going by their theory that accidents are all caused by going above the speed limit, wouldn't that make SGP roads super safe (going by the TP's arguement on speed)?

 

If the objective was really to make the roads safer, wouldn't it be better to install more speed cameras on most if not all roads in SGP?

Do note, on roads where they really want to prevent accidents, they police it with super strict laser speed cameras (KPE). This is based on the history of horrific tunnel traffic accidents in Europe.

 

If the objective was to make bad drivers behave, wouldn't higher police presence actually be better?

 

Why wouldn't the govt do it? That is because just like smoking, they actually want motorists to speed, to catch and fine speedsters because it is easy money for the government. (Just like taxes on tobacco products)

 

Do not live under the illussion that the government cares about your welfare. It's all about the money.
