Dear Lexus bros...

I got my brand new Lexus ES some 2 months ago, and I love the drive.  However, I noticed that whenever I accelerate to 80 km/hour, there is a Ringing noise... and remain so till about 90km/hr.  When I released the pendal and speed is less than 80km/hr, the ringing noise is gone!    And it appears whenever the speed reaches 80 km/hr again.

I am NOT complaining here but I want to get some feedback if any Lexus ES owners (new facelift 2016) has the same experience.  This will allow me to manage it better with BM.

I asked BM and they said it is the Transxle issue but it is an operational issue and is normal.  BM says all the ES are the same.....  There is no safety risks.

Pls let me know if you have this similar Ringing sound experience.  Thank you...

Never realised it ... what kind of ringing noise is it like .... if you can explain, your ES is not hybrid one right ? just normal petrol type right??

I will look out for it in my drive next time round, my only dislike is around the (cant remember the exact speed) but around the 30kph to 40kph speed the gears feel like missing out or not happy or like engine got no power

Thank you for your kind assistance. Yes..Pls let me know if you noticed any ringing sound from 80km/hr. It is soft but you Won't miss it. Don't know how to describe the sound but it is really a soft ringing rrrrrr sound.

Mine is the normal petrol engine..Not hybrid. BM says only it affects the ES petrol but kept stressing it is normal and even the camry is the same too. BM cited that if I need to change.. will have to first detach the engine from the car.. and then remove the transaxle. This is a real big job indeed. The sound is one thing and i have the other long term issue I am worried about as warranty is only 5 years.

Hence I really need some feedback. Again pls note that I am Not complaining but I need the feedback from any lexus bros before I return to BM to resolve and manage it professionally with BM. Appreciate any feedback or observations.

Surprisingly... I didn't notice that observation you mentioned. Will pay attention to it and advise.

i have owned .. bmw /lexus /mer and audi.. reliability audi is the worst among the cars i owned. lexus is cheap to maintain but i cant get over that it is a toyota.. even logcard says toyota lexus.. up to individual. merc is good balance of image and maintainence to me.

Me too owned these 4 brand

Merc shoul be best bang for buck

Handling is bmw

Audi none

Lexus reliability

But lexus ride lose to conti. In every aspect it loses to conti, to make it worse its highly associated with toyota. Lexus is like turbocharged toyota with added few more features that cost double from toyota price.

U ask me to buy again, i would only consider bmw or merc. Maybe lexus if i go for reliability and good after sales service haha

I would prefer the Merc too. But the current new design and look I find hard to stomach.  [smallcry]

Congrats for your new ride.

No, we don't have the issue even at highway speed (in Malaysia).

In my opinion, this is not acceptable, pls check with them again if persistent.

Overall, the BM lexus mechanic seems trustworthy and can diagnosed correctly.

So far 2 incidences within 2 yrs of ownership

1) Engine sensor check light on - replaced FOC after it recurred despite resetting - by PC (but need to wait around 2-3 weeks for the spare parts to arrive)

2) Front door lock - failed to work (both driver and then passenger) - both replaced, FOC

Frankly, I did not expect lexus to have those 2 problems in the first place....quite disappointed initially.

I would prefer the Merc too. But the current new design and look I find hard to stomach.  [smallcry]

Would you buy a normal ES 250 or a Hybrid ES??

What are the views on this? Think Lexus offers more in terms of Servicing perks for the Hybrid version.

It depends on the price. When I bought our IS the difference was only 5k between non hybrid and hybrid. So we went for the hybrid. We get at least 950km per tank.

Recently did Cameron trip. Plus full car, high speed cruising where possible, the 1500km journey averaged 15km/l. Car will do easily a trip to Penang in one tank. Every time I do such a trip I am reminded how much the hybrid system helps the high speed acceleration.

It has also been totally reliable over the last 55k. And handles as well as my German car, but much much quieter.

Will try to list down what i recalled.

(If miss any points, pls add or if wrong pls point out).

ES300h vs non hybrid ES250

Plus points

1) Better fuel consumption:

ES300h can easily get at least 800km....up to >1K per full tank, depends on traffic/load/driver behaviour

2) faster/quicker acceleration (but lower to speed)

3) Total silence when on battery mode (eg when just start the engine, cruising, low speed)

4) Can park at hybrid lots

5) higher omv

6) Boot spoiler standard (not everyone like it - subjective)

7) others: hybrid emblems, blue lexus logo, more data/information on board

Negative points

1) Higher upfront cost (but as Hybrids mentioned, may be worth or not significant)

2) Unable to choose panaromic roof

3) Lower top speed

4) some noise/clunk on using the brakes (hybrid system)

5) May have poorer resale value if new buyer worry abt battery replacement/maintenance

6) smaller boot space (and absent connection to interior of car - for carrying long objects)

7) hidden exhaust (single), not as sporty as the non hybrid twin exhausts (subjective)

ps: The older non facelift model - only hybrid luxury has power trunk/auto tailgate.

also you get a lower scrap value at the end of 10 years as the CEV rebate that was given upfront initially for the hybrid right??

Correct. But for me offset by the other benefits of owning a hybrid. That includes 10 year warrentee on the hybrid battery, but mainly it's the drive. It's gullet trisn smooth because of no gear change steps.

Also there is the cost of ownership. Yes I pay more road tax but still all in its minuscule compared to how much it costs to keep some other makes in terms of maintenance, planned obsolescence, etc etc.

From Borneo, they are offering the below.

Think it's only for the ES300h.

Think for normal ES250 only have standard 3 years warranty.

5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty + 3 Years Servicing + 10 Years Hybrid Battery Warranty*

*ES Hybrid: The manufacturer covers the 1st to 3rd year and Borneo Motors Singapore covers the 4th to 10th year of the hybrid battery warranty.

I think all lexus cars have 5 year warranty now...it is cash cow for them, force owner to go back to service. 1 year at least 1+k.

Of course no free lunch, u don't service with them, they will prob refuse to entertain you if you claim warranty. Same with most ADs. Either wait till warranty over or heck the warranty and just go outside all the way

any owners of the NX200T here can offer their views?

I just checked it out today and test drove it. from price point of view at 31-34k discount on top of free insurance, it looks attractive.

But I'm new to lexus, not sure on the reliability and the aftersales service level.

owned audi, merc and BMW before. Premium auto has decent service for S and RS owner. I find cycle and carriage so so.  Performance motors also not too bad. How does lexus aftersales compare?

NX is good drive. However interior quality slightly below Audi and the newest MBs.

Reliability will be it's strong point as it is typically as reliable as Toyotas.

For those upgrading from Japanese car, this will offer premium experience with peace of mind.

Service for aftersales is very good but you pay for it. About 1100-1500 per year for normal servicings.

Indeed, I had the same experience.  While the car is running in, the driver is too.

The same for the sound system and acoustic, switching car model I do take time to adjust and like it eventually.

Just completed my 5K servicing on my GS200T. I would gladly say that I'm a much happier owner than ever coz the car seems to perform much better (pick up is good) while maintaining its Lexus refinement. Also the looks grows on you over time and the car remains an uncommon sight on the road.  I am happy that I saw just 2 other fellow GS200T owner on the road to date. That's cool to me ;-)

4th Gear

Congratulations.  It's crucial to like the car after spending so much on it.

I supposed Lexus cars are always a joy to ride, albeit with slight idiosyncrasies between models.
