Rayleigh 6th Gear December 5, 2011 Share December 5, 2011 http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_741449.html The Straits Times www.straitstimes.comPublished on Dec 5, 2011 ComfortDelGro revises taxi fare structure upwards By Maria Almenoar Most commuters are likely to see an increase in their taxi fares from next Monday with the largest taxi company, ComfortDelGro, revising its taxi fare structure. The peak hour surcharge, a bugbear of many commuters since it was introduced in 2007, has been extended from 6am to 9.30am in the morning compared to 7am to 9.30am originally. The evening surcharge will also apply to Sundays and public holidays and now runs from 6pm to midnight compared to 5pm to 8pm from Monday to Saturday currently. Those taking a taxi from the city will soon also have to pay a city surcharge on Sundays and public holidays. Copyright ↡ Advertisement
Vid Hypersonic December 5, 2011 Share December 5, 2011 PM Lee promise no GST increase for next 5years, yet everything else from property tax to taxi fare all go up... So much for inclusive growth and sharing of GDP gains. Feels more like they get the lion share of GDP gains and everyone else pays for it... Action and words worlds apart... They kept to their promise not to increase GST. But never say petrol, COE, taxi fares, transports fares, and everything else can't increase. When these things are done increasing, GST will go up. Nightsky 1st Gear December 5, 2011 Share December 5, 2011 Out of a day....only 9:31am to 5:59pm is 'normal' fare? Not really, still get squeezed because meter will jump 22c cent each time, up from 20cent each time, up from 10 cent each time. JIN DULAN RAHS! Fastfive1 5th Gear December 5, 2011 Share December 5, 2011 since they r mkt leader, u can b dead certain all the rest wil gladly follow suit. Yeah. Wonder what happened to the relevant authorities in addressing the problem of oligopolies exploiting consumer welfare.... I wonder if the Competition Comission of Singapore will come in and address this problem similar to how they dealt with Sistic. Then again comfort delgro's market share is only 62 percent compared to sistic's 90+ percent. However it is clear that Comfort delgro is abusing its dominant position. I wonder if there's ground for price fixing? The revelant authorities should break up comfort cab and city cab. Essentially the current taxi industry is behaving like a monopoly which can exploit consumers. Let's hope that the other taxi companies do not follow and cause a price war with Comfort Delgro as unlikely as that sounds. That said, this is a very convenient excuse to get a car. Proton_neutron 1st Gear December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 Rental for Sonata: $104/day. Epica: $110-$118/day. If don't increase taxi fare, how taxi driver survive? Haha. It's still cheaper than driving though. And thanks to increased peak hour timings, and increased advance booking, it'll make it easier to flag/ book a cab now! The only effective way to combat it is the consumers themselves. If the demand increases, the prices go up and it works both ways.
Tigerwoods Turbocharged December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 4 years never "revise" already, is considered reasonable la. cabbie also must eat what. so many years flag off at $2.80, 15 years ago flag off at $2.40, really never increase much already. All the surcharges and the timings of Peak hours all revised longer. that is the killer. Maybe the meter timings also shorten...
2009k Neutral Newbie December 6, 2011 Author Share December 6, 2011 The thing with all the charges is... The taxi company gets a big cut on the booking fee, think surcharges also.... If the money goes to the cab driver to defuse the higher diesel cost and living expenses, I got nothing to say. But the bulk of it goes to cover the higher rental cost. This is a vicious cycle, for once the higher rental is met and take up of taxi is there, the taxi company is going to bid for more COE to add to the taxi fleet. COE goes up, price of taxi goes up, rental has to go up, taxi fare has to go up...... This is a very easy way to 'grow' the economy and clock high GDP to justify for big salary and big bonuses. When can they actually earn some big money from foreigners and truly give back to citizens? I think this govt is lousy, not the PAP decades back... Pokyman 1st Gear December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 It's interesting that PTC determines bus fares, but has absolutely no say over Taxi fares. Then again, what's the use of PTC if all they do is stamp chop approve bus fare increases? taxis are not considered public transport tright? I tot they are considered private tranpsort le ↡ Advertisement
