  1. Now I know why when you make a mess it’s sometimes called a skidmark. Watch this video to see what kind of mess the lorry and taxi made when they came together. What happened? On 1 May 2023, a crash involving a lorry and a Hyundai taxi took place at the junction of Bras Basah Road and Nicoll Highway in front of Suntec Convention Centre. It is unclear as to the causes of the crash as the two cars are faced away from each other. The lorry was facing towards the entrance of Esplanade MRT while the taxi still faced the direction of the road. Think of one of those diagrams for vectors in O-Levels (ughhhhh). The lorry has been flipped to its side, while the taxi is some distance away from it with an open fuel tank and missing its entire front end. I’m really confused by this crash because the taxi is some distance away from the lorry, facing a completely different direction than the lorry even after impact. But somehow it was not hit with enough force to flip the taxi over or deal more structural damage. The video also shows a glimpse of a deployed airbag in the taxi, but no signs of any one having been inside the vehicle. SCDF personnel were present to close off the scene and gather evidence from the taxi. The taxi also left a trail of fluids behind it and intermittent skid marks on the road. If the trail is wet, does it become diarrhea instead? We do not know the condition of the drivers or if any pedestrians were involved. Online chatter Many speculate speeding on at least one driver’s fault, with one commenter joking about testing the new F1 route. And of course, someone had to bring attention to the skid mark. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. Darth Vader, formerly known as Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker, student of Obi-Wan Kenobi and master to Ahsoka Tano. Now deceased following after sacrificing himself to save his son Luke Skywalker from the Emperor and bringing balance to the Force. But no! Darth Vader was seen in Bukit Batok… Driving a lorry? Watch the video to see what I’m talking about. What happened? Darth Vader (a Mitsubishi lorry driver) was seen in Bukit Batok Block 435 on 29 April around 11pm putting on an entertaining show while trying to reverse. However, a taxi was blocking the Sith lord’s way, inciting an extremely loud horn that was clearly audible many metres above the event taking place. Instead of a Force choke, Darth Vader begins to reverse. This causes The Imperial March to start blaring from the loudspeakers as he backs out of the road. As Lord Vader makes steady progress, his voice emanated over the soundtrack and began swearing at the driver of the blue taxi. Only instead of James Earl Jones’s voice he sounded more like a Chinese uncle, while telling the taxi driver to do the dirty with his mother. ezgif.com-video-cutter.mp4 The person recording is at least 7 storeys high and all audio is clear. How loud were these speakers sia. Online chatter If this was a publicity stunt by whatever company the driver is under, props to the marketing team. Many people had something to laugh about, such as Vader sounding Chinese, swearing and of course, “your mother”. Others had concerns about how such modifications were approved and allowed to be installed on the lorry. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. The karma in this one was instantaneous. It hit like a taxi, in fact. What happened? An MPV tried to run a red light just in front of Lau Pa Sat at Raffles Quay. At this time, a taxi was moving forward as the green light had just come on for its lane. There was no visible attempt at braking on the MPV’s side. This resulted in a T-bone as the taxi was perfectly positioned to hit the side of the MPV as it was moving, causing it to lose stability and flip to its side. I’m also suspecting that it’s a variant of a Toyota Alphard because the front grille looks remarkably similar, but the fog lights are throwing me off. I also like how in the video the other cars stopped for a bit to take in the crash, and then moved on with their day and carried on lol. Online chatter There’s no sympathy for the speeding MPV of course. Some people were concerned for the taxi driver and the road. Writer’s thoughts: Besides that, do drive safely everyone. Better to be late than risk your health or a few thousand in damages (if you're lucky). ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. *Disclaimer: The conversation below is satire, written for entertainment purposes only.* Here's how it all went down: What happened? A ComfortDelGro taxi was spotted driving on the pavement in the vicinity of MBS and the ArtScience Museum. This puzzling incident drew the attention of many onlookers, who were curiously staring at the taxi as he navigated his way around the area. WHUTTTT... Taxi drivers may have developed a notorious reputation for being improper and reckless road users over the years. This incident has just added one more to this list – RIDICULOUS. Seriously though. No matter how bad of a driver one is, how on Earth can someone even end up driving along the pavement outside of a shopping mall/Museum??? Is this a case of GPS misguidance, or did the taxi driver happen to navigate his way up the pavement after getting lost? I guess this incident unveils a flaw in MBS' signage and security framework. Netizens' Comments What a bunch of savage comments, the person filming wasn't spared either. I LOL-ED at this comment. If you didn't get it, its related to the cycling craze where people started "drawing" animals on Strava (GPS-based Application) as they cycled around Singapore. Maybe can consider upgrading to the Hyundai Kona Electric SUV – Off-road capability + Reduced carbon emissions. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 5. We thought ComfortDelGro taxi drivers should be the most well-mannered taxi drivers on our island based on service standards, but this driver's actions made us stop and think. What made us think otherwise? This video of a very pissed-off taxi driver confronting the cam car driver for sounding his horn at him. Rewinding back to how it all started, the cam car can be heard sounding his horn at the taxi driver after a passenger gets off at a sheltered crossing. The taxi driver then proceeds to move off slowly, triggering the cam car driver to toot his horn in impatience. The taxi driver does not react to the first horn which leads to a few more horns from cam car. This is where it gets interesting. The taxi driver's pissed off at this point, he takes his time to slowly drive into the carpark and stops on the second level to confront the cam car driver. We don't really know what happened after the taxi driver got off his taxi since most of the clip is on mute. Thankfully, no one got hurt in this road rage incident. Could this have been avoided if the cam car just overtook the taxi at the shelter? Let us know! Not an isolated incident That is not the end of the story though. Someone else has also been a victim to the same taxi driver's road rage.

  7. ComfortDelgro Taxi With Cameras Isn’t Traffic Police Car, SPF Says It’s For Driver’s Training source: https://mustsharenews.com/comfortdelgro-taxi-cameras/ ComfortDelgro Taxi With Cameras On Hood Isn’t A Traffic Police Vehicle Cameras in public spaces tend to carry connotations of surveillance, and several atop a ComfortDelgro taxi are no different. A picture of such a taxi made its rounds on messaging platforms recently, with people suspecting that it could be a Traffic Police car. The Singapore Police Force (SPF), however, has come forward to debunk the rumours today (16 Sep). So if your uncles and aunties have been spreading the fake news, do let them know. ComfortDelgro taxi with cameras not Traffic Police car Photos of a taxi with several cameras attached to its body started circulating online and on messaging platforms recently. Perhaps noticing the unusual sight of the very visible cameras, some netizens came to their own conclusions that it was a Traffic Police vehicle in disguise. Word spread quickly, and soon the rumours reached the police, who promptly denied the inaccurate information. Taxi is used for training purposes Hoping to stop the fake news from spreading, SPF got in touch with ComfortDelgro Taxi to clarify the purpose of the cameras. The company then explained that the equipment is a temporary installment solely for training purposes. The public thus has no cause for concern if they spot a ComfortDelgro taxi with similar fittings on the road. Be careful of fake news After the spread of the messages, SPF advised members of the public to be more cautious of unverified information. Since they circulate online indiscriminately these days, they may lead many to believe in false accounts. Therefore, we should remember to check the validity of our sources before sharing information, to avoid spreading fake news. Share this advisory with your family, so they’ll keep it in mind before spreading unverified information to others.
  8. For those who have been receiving texts via your favourite messaging applications that a ComfortDelGro taxi fitted with several cameras is a Traffic Police vehicle, you guys have been smoked. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) have noticed that the following image has been circulating around and has clarified that it is not part of their fleet. On their Facebook page, SPF contacted ComfortDelGro and verified that the equipment is temporarily installed on this taxi for training purposes. Members of the public are advised to exercise discretion and not circulate unverified information indiscriminately. Here are what some neitzens have to say on SPF's Facebook page...
  9. ComfortDelGro Cabbies Training To Deliver RedMart Groceries By End-Apr, Expect More Delivery Slots Soon source: https://mustsharenews.com/comfortdelgro-redmart-delivery/ ComfortDelGro, Lazada Collaboration Means Cabbies Will Help Deliver RedMart Groceries, To Cope With Rising Demand If you’ve tried ordering groceries off online supermarket RedMart recently, you’ll know how impossible it is to snag a delivery slot, thanks to the steep rise in people staying at home and ordering in due to the ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures. This problem may soon become a thing of the past, as ComfortDelGro has announced that they are collaborating with Lazada to deliver RedMart groceries to customers by the end of April. Read on for more details about the taxi drivers’ new duties. Meeting the increase in demand Now that people have been advised to stay in, many are opting for online delivery services like RedMart. The online grocer has seen a jump in their number of orders since February this year, and has been working to meet customers’ demands. ComfortDelGro cabbies to deliver RedMart groceries Now that the Government has temporarily eased point-to-point regulations to allow taxi drivers and private-hire vehicle drivers to perform deliveries, some ComfortDelGro cabbies will be helping RedMart deliver groceries in the near future, said the transport company in a press release on Tuesday (14 Apr). ComfortDelGro cabbies who are interested can sign up for the programme. They will undergo necessary training from RedMart in contactless deliveries before starting their new duties. If all goes according to plan, they’ll be helping out with deliveries by the end of this month. With the added help from ComfortDelGro taxis, they’ll be able to cater to the influx of orders better. Guess we’ll all be able to get our groceries delivered during the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period after all! Win-win-win situation for all This doesn’t benefit just RedMart, which will be able to get more of their products out in less time, and their customers – who will have an easier time finding delivery slots – but also cabbies, who will be able to earn a living during these tough times. ComfortDelGro Taxi’s chief operating officer Tommy Tan said in the statement, Lazada eLogistics Singapore executive vice-president Jamil Khan expounded on the benefits of the tie-up by saying, ComfortDelGro cabby Lim Yong Tze, who is one of the drivers who will be trained to deliver groceries, is looking forward to the training, and also said, Supporting each other through the ‘Circuit Breaker’ It’s great to see companies rolling out measures and collaborations to help their workers get through this slow period. Lest you think delivery riders are raking it in due to the increase in orders, many are still not making much, due to the increased competition. So do consider showing your support by tipping them if you can, or leaving a good review. Okay. Now there is one more reason for you to stay home and save lives!
  10. ComfortDelGro buys four buses with collision-prevention system source: https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/comfortdelgro-buys-four-buses-collision-prevention-system Transport operator ComfortDelGro has bought four Volvo buses fitted with collision warning and automatic emergency braking. The buses, the first of their kind here, will start plying routes from Sunday as part of ComfortDelGro Bus' unscheduled bus services. The Volvo B8R 49-seaters are equipped to brake automatically and come to a stop if they ''sense'' a collision is about to take place. A radar-based sensor and a camera are activated once the bus accelerates past 15kmh. When a potential collision with another vehicle is detected, the system alerts the driver through a blinking red light on the dashboard and a beeping sound. If the driver still does not respond, the system immediately initiates soft braking before applying full braking power to bring the bus to a complete stop before any collision happens. The system also comes with a lane-keeping assist function that alerts the driver when the bus veers into other lanes. Such safety systems are increasingly common in passenger cars but are making their way into heavy vehicles now. Mr Pang Weng Heng, chief executive of ComfortDelGro Bus, said the system is a ''safety enhancement that will help our bus drivers avoid critical situations and accidents''. ComfortDelGro Bus plans to buy more of such buses over the next two years. Six of its drivers have undergone training to familiarise themselves with the new safety feature. On the latest purchase, ComfortDel- Gro spokesman Tammy Tan said the features cost $5,000 to $8,000 a bus, or roughly 1 per cent of its cost. ''There are plans to purchase 11 more of such buses over the next two years,'' she added, noting the Volvos are also equipped with reverse proximity sensors and reverse cameras. ComfortDelGro Bus tested the buses for a month and will deploy them as part of a shuttle service. Ms Tan said no special skills are required to drive them, but drivers need to familiarise themselves with the system and the alerts. When asked if it plans to equip public buses with similar features, the Land Transport Authority, which owns all public buses here, said up to 400 of its buses are likely to have some form of collision warning system by 2040. That is less than 10 per cent of the current fleet of public buses here.
  11. Transport giant ComfortDelGro has rolled out an on-demand bus service. The listed bus and rail operator said that its trial ComfortConnect service has been available to residents in Tanjong Rhu and Meyer Road since 15 August. The service operates from Mondays to Fridays between 10:00am and 4:00pm, and serves 16 stops, including most of the condominiums in the Tanjong Rhu / Meyer Road area, Parkway Parade, the Singapore Swimming Club and Dunman High School. No fares are being collected during the three-month trial.
  12. Time for ComfortDelGro to up its game sources: https://www.straitstimes.com/forum/letters-in-print/time-for-comfortdelgro-to-up-its-game When Uber entered the Singapore market in 2013, it changed the face of taxi services. Singaporeans were suddenly able to find rides with an ease previously unheard of. ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator here, would have been expected to take serious steps to counter the threat from ride-hailing companies. Instead, six years on, it has allowed its taxi revenues to slide without a solution in sight. Its weak attempt to purchase Uber's private-hire business when it exited South-east Asia last year was usurped by Grab, which has emerged as the main player, with Gojek following closely behind. In South-east Asia, Grab has grand ambitions: to provide safe and convenient ride-hailing services in the region. Today, we read about ComfortDelGro's attempt to invest in transport-linked start-ups (ComfortDelGro investing in transport-linked tech start-ups, June 5). Read here! Instead of transforming its business model with its own ride-hailing app that would link all of its worldwide traditional taxi businesses and, eventually, its bus business, the company has shown a lack of ambition and leadership in the face of disruption. Still massively profitable from its monopoly over the local rail and bus services, this is one local company that has the resources to help take Singapore's internationalisation drive to the next level. But it is perhaps lacking the business motivation, given its privileged position in the local land transport market. - Liu Fook Thim
  13. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/grab-uber-deal-sparks-fears-of-price-hike Grab-Uber deal sparks fears of price hike Consumers and industry watchers are raising concerns that Grab's acquisition of Uber's South-east Asian business will lead to higher fares.PHOTO: ST FILE PublishedMar 26, 2018, 10:38 pm SGT Christopher Tan Senior Transport Correspondent [email protected] Zhaki Abdullah [email protected] SINGAPORE - Consumers and industry watchers are raising concerns that ride-hailing firm Grab's acquisition of rival Uber's South-east Asian business will reduce competition and lead to higher fares. Ms Zhang Bin Bin, who takes both Grab and Uber rides, is unsure how fares will change now that "competition is minimised". "If prices increase or if they match regular taxi prices, I will probably go back to public transport," said the film-maker, 23. Freelance photographer Robin Choo, 27, had the same concerns. "If prices for rides booked through Grab were to rise, I think I will have reconsider my travel options," he said. Drivers interviewed raised concerns about their incentives and commission rates. Private-hire drivers pay about 20 per cent of each fare to their operators. Mr Ken Tan, 45, is concerned about how the move might affect his earnings. While he has driven for both Uber and Grab, he said he was able to earn more driving for Uber due to the better driver incentives. Drivers now no longer have the option of choosing another operator if they are dissatisfied with their current firm, he said. Mr Thanaraj Suppiah, 36, who has been driving full-time for Uber since last June, said: "I will have to see how well Grab takes care of drivers." Mr Ang Hin Kee, executive adviser to the National Taxi Association as well as the National Private Hire Vehicles Association, said consumers and drivers need more choices, not fewer. Nonetheless, if the merger is approved here, he hopes that end users will be better off. "With potentially lower cost of operations via lower staff overheads and less spending on advertisement, the new entity can focus on delivering better terms for drivers and commuters," he said. "But if it infringes on commuter and driver interests, I hope the regulators can steer it back on track." Singapore University of Social Sciences senior lecturer and transport economist Walter Theseira said regulators can do one of two things to ensure that the market remains equitable for all parties. One is to have a dominant player which is well regulated. The other is to have multiple players and let natural competition keep them in check. "My personal view is that there has to be first of all, evidence that market size leads to efficiency," he said. "Secondly, there must be an appropriate lever to ensure that an enlarged player does not abuse its power." Meanwhile, consumers do not seem too worried that Grab - with its ambitions of becoming a major player in the food, payment and loan sectors - would have access to information on how they travel, eat and spend. "With the Government's cashless drive, consumers like myself will have to face the fact that my data is being collected," Mr Choo said. "My concern lies with how secure my data is." Said Ms Zhang: "I am quite indifferent to that... since many apps or even devices are already collecting such data." Grab Singapore head Lim Kell Jay said: "We have always cared about our customers' well-being and as a start, we will immediately extend our free personal accident insurance policy to all new interested Uber drivers and riders who choose to be part of our platform. "We expect our combined operations to create a better experience for our community of drivers and passengers... we expect to see shorter wait times and faster pick-ups. This would mean better productivity for our drivers, and better reliability for our passengers."

  15. A ComfortDelGro Hyundai Sonata taxi. All 16,600 ComfortDelGro taxis will be installed with in-vehicle cameras over the next three months from next Monday, as an added safety and security measure, said the public transport operator on Friday. All 16,600 ComfortDelGro taxis will be installed with in-vehicle cameras over the next three months from next Monday, as an added safety and security measure, said the public transport operator on Friday. The J002B cameras, positioned behind the rear view mirror, will be fixed in such a way that they can only record what happens outside the taxi. They cannot be adjusted to face inward, so passengers' privacy will not be compromised, said ComfortDelGro in a statement on Friday. The device is programmed to start recording once the engine is turned on and will do so continuously for up to four hours. Its sensor is also able to activate one-minute video recordings once it detects sudden shocks to the taxi. Equipped with a 140 deg focus lens and a 2.7-inch LCD screen, the cameras retail for $388 each but will be installed for free in the taxis. The cameras were first tested out in June this year and cabbies have given positive feedback about the cameras. 17. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/taxi-catches-fire...ne-injured.html A taxi caught fire along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) towards Changi Airport and near the Old Police Academy on Tuesday afternoon. Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were alerted to the incident around 12.45pm and they promptly dispatched one fire engine, one Red Rhino and two fire motorbikes to the scene. The driver of the ComfortDelGro taxi said that she stopped her taxi at the road shoulder after she saw smoke emerging from her car bonnet, reported Channel NewsAsia. Minutes later, the bonnet caught fire. SCDF firefighters reached the scene shortly after. According to SCDF, the fire was put out within ten minutes and no one was injured. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. This is the second incident in less than a month that a taxi has caught fire along an expressway. On April 24, a Comfort Hyundai Sonata taxi burst into flames in a tunnel on the Central Expressway (CTE), causing a massive jam that stretched all the way to Ang Mo Kio.
