First consult more chiropractic care and compare their treatment. If all says one thing then you have to join the session for yourself.

My mum and son attended a road show by Full Potential Chiropractic . They were convinced to take X rays and was appointed a follow up session with the chiropractor for further explanations of their conditions.

I was appalled when my son told me that they couldn't proceed unless a parent is there to make the financial decision. Deep in my heart I had a bad feeling that the cost of intervention must b huge but out of curiosity I attended the session with my mum n son.

We were asked to wait in a room and later an angmo chiropractor attends to us. The entire time, I felt as if I was going through a sales presentation. After the first presentation, we were asked to move another room to view the x rays and cutting the story short I will leave out the 'miracles' they are able to perform. After, I was surprised that they are willing to show us their 'magic' for $85! Later I found out they only do adjustment and nothing else. they don't offer any pre adjustment warm up, such as ultrasound, heat therapy and etc. The whole 'popping' session was over in about 5 minutes and we were whisk back to the x ray room to talk figures...

We were informed that both my mum n son needs to attend 3 sessions per week for 3 months, follow by 2 session per week for 6 months n lastly 1 session per week for 3 months (the package worked up to about $10k per person!). I almost fell off my chair and they were preparing to close the deal on the day itself as we requested to go home and think over it coz the amount is huge. And guess what? the angmo chiropractor got upset n threw her pen showing us her white supremacy. Seeing that we are not welcome anymore, we got up n left the place feeling discriminated in my own country.

So, my fellow bros, u have been warned and please proceed with caution when u r in a similar situation like mine...peace!

But how about going to certified therapist like orthopaedic physiotherapy? This practice is at least approved by MOH unlike chiropractic practice.

Touch wood. I think if I kenna backpain for whatever reason I would get a referral from polyclinic and go to MOH recommended physiotheraphy.

Google

Musculoskeletal which is also called orthopaedic physiotherapy and is used to treat conditions such as sprains, back pain, arthritis, strains, incontinence, bursitis, posture problems, sport and workplace injuries, plus reduced mobility. Rehabilitation following surgery is also included within this category.

There are other chiropractic clinics around. Most importantly is how you feel about the treatment and the pressure felt. If there are good effects felt after the session and though they suggest you the package session but you don't feel like they are hard selling, or you being pressurised, such session or package is worth considering.

me & my wife had good results with chiro.. she had pinched nerve few years back n can barely walk for more than 10 mins... we went to the mainstream doctors, physicians, therapists etc,, all couldn't resolve it.

We only went to Chiro as a last resort and chose 1 based on a fren's recommendation. Took 3 months for her to see real life improvements. before that, the relief are only temporary.. it started with an hour of relief, then extend over time, with a few of regression in between. Started with 3 times a week for a month then gradually reduce... wow she only goes on a need be basis, around once every few months.

When I see the improvements she had, I also decided to try also very happy with it. I've was having aches at shoulder n neck area and been going for massages for years before that.

Just sharing my experience with Chiro..

it is interesting to note that most of the ones vocally against chiropractic treatments aren't the one trying chiro themselves.  on the other hand, all those i know personally and attended chiropractic treatment attest to the efficacy.

I think it depends on the individual's issue big or small. Obviously there's a wide spectrum of pain and the root cause of where the pain originates. There's no one practice that covers it all.

I've also known many people who attend physiotherapy and improved. If u ask them, they themselves also know is cos they don't continue doing the exercises thats why they get problems again.

you have known such people with success on physiotherapy doesn't give ammunition for people to criticise chiropractic treatment when they themselves have not tried it to cure their back problems.

physiotherapy does have its efficacies but like @watwheels have mentioned, everyone's level of affliction is different and it would be too presumptious to assume that what works for one person will work for another person.  and for the 3 persons i cited, 2 of them also tried doing physiotherapy exercises on top of going to the chiropractor.  1 even consulted orthopedic specialist before.

some objectivity is required.

I had came across a news and I am surprised by the fact that chiropractors are not considered as registered medical practitioners are not regulated in Singapore.

Even the Chiropractic Association of Singapore, which is 'self regulates' with its own code of ethics and practice, said the sale of large packages of prepaid care is prohibited under its rules. And there is a disclaimer on the association's website that only individual chiropractors need to agree to its rules.

That's explained why there are so much malpractices in the field of chiropractic as there are no rules or regulations to govern them and these people are definitely dragging the reputation of some good ones down with them...

As for me I have totally lost confidence in chiropractic and will go to a government hospital instead for any medical conditions. At least I have the peace of mind that there some bodies that regulates them and an avenue to lodge complaints if it arises...

Tell me chiro and I will tell you to fly kite. That was then.

I went for one session based on recommendation and was truly surprised by the aftermath.

Btw I have chronic back pain for at least 30 years, I know what I am talking about.

I've had LBP on and off for many years.

Been to the Spine Center at NUH and both times found them uninterested and 'useless'.

So just get on with it.

But I've noticed that recently three Chiropractises have opened close to where I live.

Chiropractor or Osteopath which is which?

There's no real right or wrong with TCM or chiro and each will carry their own risk. U think TCM can do no wrong with their adjustments meh?

Sometimes u can get tcm which will refuse to touch you as they admit it's beyond their abilities, but others may not and still gey kiang and make things worse.

Western med imo is either u can recover on your own and they recommend u go physio; or u need to go under the knife to get back the quality of life; or you just manage the pain with meds (and they do offer acupuncture sometimes).

Depends on one's risk appetite, choose the one that you are most comfortable with at the time lor.

Personally, it took me years before I decided to go under the knife. And now, I regret not doing it earlier.

I did it over 6 months, 2-3x a week and it didn't work for me. It worsened my condition actually.

I have also read enough to know a thing or 2, won't say it is totally useless, it works for some, but the amount charged for 5-10 mins of "adjustment", 2-3x a week, is just gross. Some people are making a lot of money, hence so much hard sell.
