Mllcg 3rd Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 How can it be fair when they artificial reduce the motorcycle quota. Think for a while, the gov just need to increase the motorcycle quota by say 5000 per year, and the COE price will drop down to $1. This will also help those who cannot afford car, but hate public transports, to own their budget cheap motorcycle. There is no reason that motorcycle will choked up the road system. why do u think motorcycles got no ARF? it is already cheaper
VellfireS 4th Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 the COE system which is one of its kind in the world..............is in itself not fair already............how to find fairness in unfairness???........... [laugh] other country would be laughing at us.. Where in the world can people sell a used b&b car for a profit? Uniquely SG..
Kiadaw 6th Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Maybe its heartwarming for many people here to know that if you drive a vios, or ALtis, or latio, you could be driving a BMW 5er in some other countries. Feeling already good right. The wonder of COE, make you feel good.

Sg garment wld not be bother other countries laughing at us, since they can generate such a huge profits from COE system, and garment might feel this system very good since can reduce and cut down over crowded vehicles on the road, where other countries cannot come out with such a "brillant" idea. SimonTan 2nd Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Singapore has the MOST expensive motorcycle price in this world!! Harley's and BMW motorcycle are cheaper in Europe and America, and UK. Without ARF...its stil way way more expensive to buy a motorcycle in Singapore!
13177 Hypersonic March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 haha.. True enough. But.. the big question is.. Did the people of this Republic really stop buying after COE so "cheap"? [smash] Maybe they are simply too many rich people in sg, so no matter how much is the COE, they will still continue buying. This is why the garment would not give up on this system, even though the COE paper has become so expensive, and yet people can still afford.

Lucaswh 1st Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Firstly, what are people grumbling about? This is a capitalist state, not socialism. Secondly, who says the government owes anyone a car ownership right? It's a privilege, not a necessity and no one owes you. Can you just imagine if there is no COE in Singapore? Traffic jams will be worse than BKK, and every tom dick harry will put a car on the road. This right to entitlement too expensive? Now, that's the way it's supposed to be. Cars, in Singapore, are a luxury good considering living standards and comparison to other countries, and car prices are pretty price and income inelastic. Maybe to be fair, one can just go back to 1950s China to be a peasant. Am sure life is much simpler and less disgruntled.
Civic6228 6th Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Life is not fair .......if someone believe that life is fair he/she must be damn naive. If life is not fair then obviously Coe is not fair. Can we demand for life to be fair ...... No way. That the same for Coe A car in Singapore is just a want ..... If cannot afford the Coe there is always an alternative transport available. A car is not a matter of life and death there are bigger things to life than a Coe .
KARTer 2nd Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 HK doesn't rely on COE/AFR/ERP etc but an efficient public transport system which sgp lacks. Parking is expensive there no doubt, but it's nothing compared with our COE etc...... Maybe LTA should google and check where HK is?? The COE system is indeed fair. Cos it precisely determines the controlled number of cars allowed on the roads. The bidding system allocates COEs to those who are willing to pay to earn their right to own & drive a car. For those who cannot afford to buy a new car, they can always buy a used car. And if used cars are also deemed to expensive, they could consider renting a car as and when required, short term. And if rental cars are still too expensive, they can resort to public transport / BMW. So there are many options for transportation. You only need to select what suits you (and your pocket) right! So no one is barred or prevented from buying a car. It is really dependent on your financial means & affordability. But the main crux of the matter is that Singapore's land area is fixed and new roads built have reached near saturation point. Not EVERYONE can own a car, so the laws of economics will inevitably set in. Only if you can afford one ... Similarly, not everyone can own a landed property / house. Not everyone can live in the exclusive central core districts of D9 and D10. Not everyone can be in the top 10% salary bracket of >$500,000 p.a. So what's new? The same rules apply to all commodities traded in the global markets, from oil, to gold, to other precious metals. What is a fairer system to you? That every household be given a chance at a COE? Then that would be bordering on communistic ideals. Perhaps then, you might want to consider emigrating to North Korea ... probably the last bastion of altruistic Lenin-Mao Communism. Even China has moved on. There now, money talks in a much louder voice than ever before! The Chinese have literally embraced capitalism right at their doorsteps! So you still whine for a "fairer" COE system, to make it easier for you to own a car? I say wake up your ideas, pal!
Bystander50 5th Gear March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Other people buy car keep for life. We buy car and need to scrap by end of 10 years. Y government is controlling our asset by this piece of paper? Like u pay tv tax and once tv tax expires, u need to return the tv back to govenment? And before u buy tv, u need to apply Coe which itself is not a fair system which created dealers profiting from the system lumping Coe price with car price as a package. COE fair? This system should not even be implemented in the first place. Since our roads are so congested, it means that COE used for controlling populaion is not successful. It's time LTA scrap it. And something which I always emphasise, the true value of the COE is determined by the ADs. These are the a**holes that push up the prices. ADs are never putting our financial interest in our well-being, it's more for them to move their sales and meeting their quota to the manufacturer. Why a car cost more if you decided to bid for COE yourself? If ENV can ban transfer of stall license, I don't see why LTA cannot ban ADs from selling cars as a package. We all know, the moment ADs are taken out of the equation, COE will crash. Who of sound mind will throw in 50k for that piece of paper?

Tuck You's LTA just said they are increasing the minimum nunber of taxis each operator must have. In another words, COE will still maintain at this high price even with weak demand from the consumer market. The taxi operators will start bidding and maintaining the current level, worst nightmare, pushing it higher when they need to replace the old fleet and meeting the minimum number. If taxis are deemed public transport, why do they need a COE or why is there not a seperate category for them? How come SMRT and SBS buses, which also take up road space and permanent congestion (with the bus lane allocated to them) does not have to bid for COE, but private operators have to? Private operators are ferrying workers around, in a way, they are also helping to relieve the load on the public transport system. ↡ Advertisement
