Fuelsaver Supercharged March 15, 2012 Share March 15, 2012 This looks exactly what happened to a marine engine when its con-rods bottom end bearing was not tightened properly. Was running in the completely re-built engine. At lower rpm, all was good. When at higher rpm, the con-rod gave way. Smashing thru the engine block. Had to scrap the whole engine. i have witnessed same issue many yrs back, when my site office diesel generator suffered same fate, although not sure if anything came loose or was it caused by constant high rev. picture similar to above where engine block was broken by broken conrod. a case of fatigue failure / overuse. ↡ Advertisement
Luckcent 4th Gear March 15, 2012 Share March 15, 2012 Always stick to stock. If need performance, buy a performance car. Best statement of the day. [thumbsup]
Chpeck Clutched March 15, 2012 Share March 15, 2012 I think it would require an expert or at least an advance enthusiat to tune a car to such extreme. Screwing up the engine due to remaping using a reputable maps? Unlikely.
5936 1st Gear March 15, 2012 Share March 15, 2012 Car engine easier to buy new or second hand off the shop. Marine engine harder to buy.no ready stock. Always must wait 12-18m, even if you have the cash.
Yuan 6th Gear March 15, 2012 Share March 15, 2012 I think if they are from reputable dealers like ABT and so on they should be fine. However, you still have to ask some questions and be abit knowledgeable about these kinda things. Maps cant really be "universal" as each country/region has different parameters such as air temp, humidity etc that will play a part in how the car will perform. Knowing and controlling what goes into your car's ecu is ultimately your safest bet but if you dont have the technical knowledge, then of course reputable tuners are your next best alternative. Agreed though there is a higher rate of wear and tear after the engine has been tuned. There should not be of any problems with regular servicing and maintenance, including change of engine oil. But big organisations buy spare critical parts(like engine block, crankshaft, piston, cylinder head, camshaft, etc) to keep in case of emergencies. The Navy, buy entire spare engine as spare and rotate it within the fleet. E.g they build 6 ships, they buy 7 sets of engines!!! They rotate the engines among the fleet, any emergency, just drop-in the spare engine and can turnaround with three days.

Yeobh 4th Gear March 17, 2012 Author Share March 17, 2012 From the FB friend, Bengkel de otto ( Otto Car workshop) the block is from Honda Jazz. The con-rod did not size due to lack of engine oil.According to the comments in the FB - the con-rod (s) hit the block skirt at very high centrifugal force resulting in bend rod (and damage pistons). Strudel- 1st Gear March 17, 2012 Share March 17, 2012 Its only a problem when the tuner doesnt know what he's doing or if the tune is for power on an engine thats not meant to have that type of tune...

Yeobh 4th Gear March 17, 2012 Author Share March 17, 2012 Misfiring will not cause such serious damage. As I mentioned earlier, loose con rod bolt or crankshaft main bearing bolt maybe the cause of this serious damage.
