It is:

a) Fair Charge PR more for education

b) Fair to give PR less priority for school balloting

c) Fair to charge PR more for healthcare

d) Fair to charge PR more for (enforced upon them) lift upgrading

e) Unfair for Malaysia to charge Singapore cars more in tolls than local cars (according to Cedric Foo of PTC)

My views:

a) Fair Charge PR more for education - discrimination

b) Fair to give PR less priority for school balloting - discrimination

c) Fair to charge PR more for healthcare - discrimination

d) Fair to charge PR more for (enforced upon them) lift upgrading - discrimination

e) Unfair for Malaysia to charge Singapore cars more in tolls than local cars (according to Cedric Foo of PTC) - discrimination

Why suck more from PRs/non-cititzens? The government really doesn't need to from a financial/economic perspective Is it a social issue and simply succumbing to the pressure of discontent from the locals? If so are such measures correct?

In my view, the Malaysian rule purposely targeted Singaporean-registered vehicles, so it is more unfair - compared to the local rules against PR, affects many nationalities, so it's not so bad.

Anyway, that's politics...

Furthermore, it's not as if PRs are treated unfairly now. They were actually given TOO many privileges in the past, and now the govt is only doing the rightful thing by trimming back slightly, to the level where it should be vis-a-vis citizens.

Actually IMHO it is fair.

A - D is fair. Not discrimination cos citizens should be given the benefits. If there were adequate resources then maybe it is unfair but with so much competition, I think it is fair to charge PRs more.

For charging Singapore cars more in toll, it is fair for malaysia to do so but it will provoke similar reactions from Singapore which will ultimately harm the relations on both sides. So it is more of an issue of diplomacy rather than fairness.

But why is it OK for Singapore to give more to citizens, but if Malaysia gives more to citizens will provoke a response?

And remember here - in Singapore's case is PR, people who have made a commitment to Singapore, but for Malaysia is "just: visitors - who are there for a holiday.

Life is never Fair.

PRs always have a choice to leave if you feel it is unfair.

We also have a choice not to drive in to JB if we feel unfair.

Not discrimination cos citizens should be given the benefits.

One could argue that at the end of the day both citizens and PR contribute to the economy so there's really no reason to favour one over the other. The government is probably conscious that such measures, without counter-measures in place, could possible cause a backfire to draw more FTs.

its fair, malaysia can charge all they want for singapore cars going there, those who complain don't drive your car in lor.

i think the biggest group of complainants must be those who live jb and drove daily to singapore for work.

The difference in allowing citizens to enjoy a greater shares of sgp's limited resources than that enjoyed by PRs is a fair and square way of recognizing what being a citizen stands for as well as the NS the male citizens have to go thru. [:)]

Male citizens go thru 2yrs of NS, this alone entitles their families to enjoy more benefits than PRs..... If anyone disagrees with this point, please show cause.....n

I was part of a course last week, whereby PR on the course to citizenship attended an "induction"

What really struck me was the length of time most of the people had been in Singapore -

They were all in the 8-12 year range, many had studied here and were now settling down with a family. As citizens.

a-d is fair. In the past, a PR has about 99% of the privileges as a citizen. Why should it be like that? If a country cannot take care of her citizens, why should citizens remain here and contribute to the country?

No comments on point e. Malaysia can do whatever they want. They have the sovereign rights to do so.
