What do u want me to address and refute? Am surfing on phone now...

It's pretty straight forward. Malaysia show favourtism to citizens in a way that detriments tourists, sg govt rep says unfair. At same time sg govt says is fair and "universal principle" to put citizen ahead of pr, who are far more attached to the country than tourists.

AND much less attached than citizens. Clarify yor stand, you comparing your PR status against tourists or Citizens. Which country offers tourists the opportunity to buy public housing, entry to public schools and access to community medical care?I shall reserve my thoughts on PR vs Citizens when you are really prepared to engage this topic objectively and seriously. Shhesshh

My own country does not differentiate pr and citizens - even allowing pr to vote. So I wonder what is this universal thing that is talked about.

Your country can let the sheeps vote for all we care as it is their right to govern their land they deem fit. Last I checked, this is not New Zealand. I've stated before what Country A/ CountryB/Country C does is their own right. At the most, a knowledge for others to refer but certainly no basis for 'benchmarking'... if anyone can pick and choose piecemeal policies of other countries, then we are also open to adopting the tax rate of US citizens (on New Zealanders), housing rules of Australian PRs (on Singapore PRs from New Zealand) as well as Bumiputra rights (over New Zealanders) If you are so open to piecemeal policies over assessing the entire package as a whole, you should have no reason to not accept this.

Many bro here say that pr are just here to milk. THat is not what I have seen. Many are desperate to faster get citizenship. But gov makes them wait long long time.

" others" make an easy target of invective. And it is unpleasant. Wherever it is found.

When you create divisions and classes in society you breed resentment, which is never productive or positive.

However, the fact is space and resource is limited. When more and more ask for a share of the pie, it's only natural that citizens get preferential treatment in their own land. Else, going by your logic, I should have equal claims to to your family inheritance.

The person that you are cursing as a pr today is the same one that is likely to be swearing allegiance to Singapore tomorrow.

Just as likely a chance that this same person will be selling his HDB flat with a high COV and retiring back to his homeland to a 3 storey house. Again, yor one sided bias logic towards your own selfish agenda

I will state clearly here that : Preferential treatment for own citizens is not o be confused with biased penalties towards another specific nationality. Even mroe so when the preferential

Let me sum up TS's point of contention here. By championing for protectionist measures in favour of native Singaporeans over PRs, we should all climb our moral high horses and forfeit our prerogative to protest against a foreign country's decision to levy unfair measures on us native Singaporeans when we enter said foreign country as visitors.

How are both instances congruous? Is TS implying that we native Singaporeans, enjoy privileges in Malaysia not dissimilar to privileges accorded to PRs in Singapore? Or rather, is he implying that the barriers that a foreigner (without residency) faces in said foreign country is essentially parity with the amount of barriers that a Singapore PR faces?

Please, pray tell.

Let me throw the gauntlet down to you, TS. you are subject to much lower taxation as a private individual in Singapore from your gainful employment herein. I dare you to pay your income taxes on at prevailing rates to IRD rather than IRAS. Do that and i WILL forfeit my prerogative to contest the debatable and unfair measure levied on me (as a foreign visitor) by said foreign country.

Haha TS is sore about the recent primary school prioritisation issue and just wanna stir up s--t..and provoke controversy...

I am sorry someone in Parliament gave him a chance to do that...

With Najib copying all our successful policies..I just hope $$$ earned in Singapore stays in Singapore. I have enough of foreigners working here and telling me they will retire somewhere else, buy big houses etc etc with their high salaries $$$ earned here.

With the Malaysia my 2nd home programme..think I may adopt these ugly attitudes and retire in MY or anywhere for that matter, as well. [sly]

Hello Darryn,

You are from NZ right? I can somewhat relate to you, as I am also FT, or FW (doesn't matter to me), an Auslander in another foreign country, but they just do not group people like FW & FT.

Its true that in many other countries, there is little distinction between resident from another country & citizen, but you also have to see that its far far more difficult in most 1st world countries to gain residency permit, let alone citizenship, unless you have connection (say married to a local, or have only uncle living there), well to do, or are capitalist.

I believe its not easy to gain residency permit in NZ. The issue with Singapore is that alot of PRs (not you) are just using Singapore as a stepping stone, and buying properties & selling it back to retired back home or some other places. Many Singaporeans suffer due to this as the housing price are off the roof. In other countries, this is no so widespread.

I think at least 8 out of 10 PRs that I know have the exact same thinking. Make money in Singapore, buy propertie(s) (price isn't an issue as long can pay every month, since they can sell at even higher price), after some years, sell the place & enjoy their windfall, retired back home, start a business, or something like that.

Thats why I think while it hurts geniue PR that wanted to settle here, in my opinion a necessary step so at least if the PR wanted to settle down, they should apply for citizenship. Otherwise, as Citizen, we are at a huge handicap. If they do not convert to Citizenship, it just show they are like the 8 of of 10 that I mention.

Also as Citizen, its our duty to bare arms & put our life to protect the nation, & to do what not one of us like to do, but must do; to pull the trigger at someone. Will PRs do that?

I have no idea why you do not convert to Citizenship, but when you do, & willing to bare arms in time of need, I believe everyone here well welcome you with open arms. I will. [:)]

Life is never Fair.

PRs always have a choice to leave if you feel it is unfair.

We also have a choice not to drive in to JB if we feel unfair.

Yalor, Life is never fair even when it comes to serving NS.

Some PES A, some PES B, some PES C and some desk job, some chiong suah.

Let's face it.

Treatment of PRs vis a vis tolls by Malaysia is just like comparing an apple to an orange.

Such comparison simply doesn't make sense.

In any case, I am sure many PRs today would not have been qualified as a PR, if the entry criteria and paper qualification recognition set out by the pioneering government remained unchanged. Hence, the many posts comparing the 1st guards and subsequent guards of the Singapore government for the disturbing changes which took place over the last 1-2 decades.

It may well be true that not every PR may receive citizenship as easily as some others as Darryn seems to have indicated. If so, I presume the gahmen is trying hard to do damage control as a result of loose PRs criterion in the recent past. Hence, sieving the worthy and unworthy PRs for citizenship seem only logical to repair the damage.

Can we therefore blame the gahmen for such policy between PRs and citizens?? Surely not!

Majulah Singapura!!! [thumbsup]

I follow events closely so there is no reason why I'm not permitted to comment. There would be no international news correspondents if everyone had the same mentality as you do.

so you are not working here or living here...

then just dont comment on our local issue as you are totally unaware of what is going on around here without understanding the policy that citizen have to be restricted to but are not placed on PR.

That is for citizens like me to decide. You have absolutely no rights to even think of that. Get this clear & straight.

You, like many others, unfortunately, have little power to decide. The people at the top roll the dice and play the cards, not you.

I was speaking to one PRC colleague today ... he was one of those who got a free study scholarship through NUS to do his masters. I found out his degree is from some ulu uni in China and he also not high scoring scholar. Seems that they were recruited right from China and offered to come to Singapore for free further education including living expenses. Near to the end of his masters, he received a letter from the govt inviting him to apply for PR. One month after he finished his masters, he received his PR. That was last year.

He was hired by my company to be a junior IT software developer. Now out of a staff strength of 9, we have at present 5 PRC and 3 Pinoy software developers - a number of those are PR, and the rest on employment pass. And 1 Singaporean: Me.

Can someone exprain to me is it fair - are there no Singaporeans qualified as software developers that we must hire 8 foreigners? By the way... I just tendered my resignation on Monday... I have had enough of this fracked up company that hires foreigners over locals.
