Vehicle does not move off in drive gear

I find a problem with my ride. When I shift my gear into drive the vehicle does not move off automatically. When I try to jerk it makes a screeching noise like rubbing something (no obstruction), something like wheel clamp feeling. Initially thought is the brake but it is not. It will move off once I hit reverse a while then put into drive than it is normal. What problem is this..

bring to workshop and do a through check... too many issues and possiblities....

if you got AA membership or have friend with AA membership... get them to tow to your workshop for free.... the AA member has to be present... but does not have to be the owner of the car

Too hard to detect. Happen randomly maybe 1 mth one time. Bring to workshop also hard to trace when it is not happening.

(edited)

sounds like you have something slipping or stuck in your gearbox... better go checkup.

maybe when you put it into reverse it builds up heat and pressure in the gearbox and then subsequently it will engage.

did you forget to release your handbrakes sometimes [sly] ?

on a serious note, bring it to your workshop and ask them to check your gearbox specifically

Hi, Bro Dark_flan,

Please don't wates time and quickly get a car mechanic to check your auto-transmission immediately, it will be dangerous for you to continue using this car with such unusual weird auto drive gear engagement [sweatdrop]

Supercharged

I wait till next servicing then do a check on this matter.

Ever wonder what if that gearbox jam when you are negotiating a bend?

It just lock up your drivetrain & you will be going for a ride of your life.

Somethings can wait but GB, brakes, tires & even wipers can't.

Driving no jam or whatsoever and it is very smooth gear changes. Using original fluid from Toyota themselves.

Did you wash the car or the car was wet (ie. Raining) when you parked the vehicle and leave it there for a prolong period of time?

If yes, it is normal as the brake pad "jiak" the rotor that's why you are "stuck" briefly. You will need to accelerate a little to "loosen" it and a thud sound usually follows after that.

It auto, it's confirmed auto transmission damaged & if manual transmission, the clutch worn out already.

Need WS for that ? My WS specialise for this case (Recent an Suzuki Ignis & Honda Civic & others sent in for same fault and was resolved.

Beside the dangers and seriousness to yourself together with other innocent road user's just if freak mishap does occurs driving with a faulty drivetrain along the road, it may also lead into a hefty costs with major damages to your auto-transmission system and gearbox for repairing, please send in to workshop for safety inspection

How about if you shift your gear to D, it does not move off automatically but the car moves only when step on the accelarator. What could be the problem? [:/]

Hi, Bro13177,

How long ago you changed the ATF & It's Filter ?

My previous MB124 had the same issues and my ws mechanic changed the above, the car came back to normal.
