Steptronic Supercharged May 10, 2012 Share May 10, 2012 Sorry to hijack this thread. Just wondering, can a person with no license buy a car and get it insured under another person? I think the answer is "no" ↡ Advertisement
Blue850r Clutched May 10, 2012 Share May 10, 2012 if total lost? you wont get a single cent right Hi Dafansu, If total lost you claim you balance PARF + unused COE from LTA. In the case of 1st party insurance, the insuarnce will pay you like that also because this car that TS talk about is not so new. In my years of driving, I had never claim any total loss or theft. Please don't think of the very rare situation and shoot yourself on the foot and pay high premium. Wait till you claim , then their smell will come. You have seen many forumers here complaint about insurance claims, how difficult. This 3rd party insurance thingy is for those who drive carefully. In case other mororist hit your car, you claim their insurance, no issue. Sometimes when ourselves are not so careful, we hit others. But usually the repairs are minor, so just pay few hundred bucks, problem solve. Insurance claims are always inflated. Look at your own claim history to decide. Lattesurf Neutral Newbie May 10, 2012 Share May 10, 2012 well in getting a comprehensive insurance, there is still the excess amount that u have to come up front to repair ur own car, plus the additional loading for a couple of years when u make an own claim. This two items plus the savings from third party compared to compre will be a substantial amount if u think about it. if its more than the cost of ur repairs if u do it on your own, then why not take thrid party for the savings? often the repair cost would be balloon up when u make a claim on ur own insurance compared to sourcing for ur own repairs. my personal opinion, thats why i am on third party ins.. Have to agree to this, some truth to the OD claim, excess, and subsequent loading. Might actually be cheaper to do own repairs than to claim and end up paying more in the long run. Something like they "loan" u the money upfront, but claim back from u in subsequent years. Back to topic, 3P F+T may not be any cheaper. My dad's '89 BMW 316 costs almost $700 for 3P F+T 50% NCD. Whilst my '07 Fiat Bravo costs $750 for Comprehensive 30% NCD. Plus, very few insurers are willing to insure COE cars, don't even need to talk about the option between Comprehensive or 3P. Enye Hypersonic May 10, 2012 Share May 10, 2012 I am on third party fire and theft. Premium $500 plus @ 50% + 5%, COE portion not covered. Premium will go lower as the car ages.

Good enuff savings for me.

JK86 Neutral Newbie June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 I think there are 2 things you may want to consider if you want to change to a 3rd Party Only car insurance: 1. What's the percentage of cost savings you can get? 2. If today an accident occurs, you need to get your car repaired, how costly will it be to do it yourself?
