so many NOTES owners at Plaza Singapura complaining the same problem.

 

Samsung staff told me to change these 2 setting. I think they are aware of these glitch.

Proxy : leave this empty ("not set")

Port : 8080

 

I encounter this problem when i downloaded the latest samsung software.

Now my NOTES is runnning fine.

Can advise which is the best custom ROM to root?

 

I am still monitoring the battery consumption, if really jialat then will consider rooting.

 

I never use any rom, just root and change to speedmod kernel, the battery consumption improve alot. Almost to the level of GB, but GB is still better, too bad there is no voltage control app for root users like for Sgs2. If not I believe the battery life would be so much better. I still miss my SII due to the hugh amount of roms to play with. But I love the Note's S-pen.

Browser plus is what you need if you are using ICS.

This is a very fast browser for ICS. If not get chrome beta but chrome do not support flash.

No point unless you're buying from Google's play store. The SG versions are Samsung ones, so unless you've done leemn.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/galaxy-nexus-upgrade-to-official-roms-yakju-build/ you're still at Samsung's whims when it comes to updates (its still 4.0.2 though the Google branded G Nex is on 4.0.4).

- phone will become hot easily.

- battery drains out faster.

 

from those whom i know, they are telling me not to upgrade and wait for the next upgrade and see-how.

I upgrade to ICS on my note.

 

At first the battery drain is fast but you just have to turn off auto sync from google play. I also turned off motion control and auto brightness.

 

now my battery drain 10-15% through the night which is ok.

rebooted my phone in the evening and when it came on again, it prompted me to upgrade to ICS !

 

i am with Singtel.

 

so i spent a few hours backup up all my contents and then installed the 3xx mb upgrade to ICS over wifi.

 

it reset the all the main screens and sorted out the apps.

 

but it seems that all my contents are still there.

As you are all probably aware, the SGS2 and SGNote variants suffer from a bug that may brick your device when a certain erase method is used

 

Unclear to me what constitutes this "uncertain erase method" however someone has mentioned in another thread that factory reset may count as one. Hence my post to alert all Galaxy Note owners.

 

This is only dangerous if your kernel is dangerous as well. Gingerbread kernels are usually OK, Samsung ICS kernels are usually (bad on Note, good on SGS2)

 

Please refer to the second link for a more detailed list on what kernels are bad and thus dangerous.

 

All GT-I9100 ICS leaks and official releases are SAFE (MMC_CAP_ERASE not present)

All kernels based on GT-I9100 ICS Update4 sources are SAFE (MMC_CAP_ERASE not present) - This includes all CM9 nightlies for SGH-I777, GT-I9100, and GT-N7000, all GT-I9100 custom kernels I am aware of, and all SGH-I777 custom kernels I am aware of

All GT-N7000 ICS leaks are UNSAFE

All GT-N7000 ICS official kernels are UNSAFE

All kernels built from the GT-N7000 sources are UNSAFE unless the following condition is met:

MMC_CAP_ERASE is removed from the capability flags in drivers/mmc/host/mshci.c - check the kernel features for this. Franco.kernel R3 and later and all Speedmod ICS releases are SAFE due to this.

 

In a nutshell, Galaxy Note owners who have updated to ICS ROMs/Kernels either using leaks (as hosted from samfirmware.com) OR flashed to officially released ROMs using Kies or updated to ICS ROMs at the service centre (i don't see why such phones are excluded from such a risk), PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN DOING A FACTORY RESET.
