  7. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/for-sg50-a-new-range-of-s/2057720.html?cid=fbsg SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong unveiled a set of commemorative currency notes to celebrate SG50 on Tuesday (Aug 18). The set includes a S$50 polymer note and five S$10 polymer notes. The notes’ designs drew inspiration from significant milestones and achievements in Singapore's history, the multiracialism that defines Singapore as a nation and the values and aspirations that underpin Singapore's progress. For example, the S$50 note highlights Singapore's history, transformation and future. It shows the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew shouting 'Merdeka!' - the rallying cry of Singapore's independence struggle. However, the current Prime Minister said: "Even as we reflect on our past we must also look to the future." Hence the addition of a note depicted Singapore's latest new town - Punggol - which he said symbolises the continuing renewal of our homes and communities. Mr Lee said this is Singapore's responsibility: To build on the legacy of our pioneers and carry on their vision to make Singapore our best home. The notes make use of the colour gold, reflecting Singapore's jubilee. Both the S$50 and S$10 notes have security features that are the first of their kind in the world to be used on a currency note. The security stripe in the S$50 note has a unique see-through feature with image movement effects that give depth to the image of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The SG50 logo also has colour-switching effects, with the year flipping from 1965 to 2015. The notes were designed by four local artists and designers. The public can exchange the SG50 commemorative notes at face value at branches of nine major retail banks from Aug 20. They include DBS Bank/POSB, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, United Overseas Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of China, HSBC, Malayan Banking Berhad, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to exchange the SG50 commemorative notes, there will be a quota of five sets of notes per transaction per individual. BANKS EXTEND HOURS United Overseas Bank (UOB) and DBS said on Tuesday that they will be extending banking hours and setting up dedicated queues for the exchange of the commemorative notes. Both banks will also provide priority assistance for the elderly and those with special needs. UOB will deploy more customer service officers to help answer questions and to take orders from customers who are in queue. At some DBS/POSB outlets located near food and beverage outlets, note-exchangers will be offered complimentary beverages in the event that their wait is longer than expected, the bank said. Banking hours at all full-service DBS/POSB branches will be extended until 8pm on weekdays from Aug 20 for two weeks. For UOB, 26 branches located in heartland areas and key town centres will have their hours extended to 7pm on weekdays during the first week of the exchange period. UOB customers can also reserve their commemorative notes online at www.uob.com.sg/sg50notes from Aug 20 onwards and collect them later at a pre-determined branch of their choice, UOB added. - CNA/ek
  8. 2 sizes. a first for S series? a 5.8" and a 6.2 " Wonder what's the Note 8 going to be like then ... http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/29/15087530/samsung-galaxy-s8-announced-features-release-date-video-specifications
  9. In case some of you may not notice, some observations recently : 1. Traffic Red Light Camera now doubles as a Speed Camera mostly 50-60 km/h limit. So when driving through these junctions please observe the speed limit even its Green. 2. At some junctions, Pedestrian 'GO' Green Light seem to be On earlier (by a few sec) than the corresponding Vehicle Green Light. So please only proceed upon 'Green' traffic light instead of Pedestrian 'Green' light. Some of us have been conditioned to proceed with either of the Green lights on. So be careful! Any others ?

  11. If anyone had bought new LG mobile phones, pls take note. I dont know if it is just my family or is LG phones' motherboard issue. My family have 4 LG phones, my G4 and 3 V10 for my children, the motherboard of my G4 gave up its will to live after 10 months with me. I took it back to LG service centre and a new one was replaced. Last month, after CNY, with 11 months of usage, one V10 gave up, took it back and motherboard replaced. This morning a 2nd V10 is down, totally cannot boot up and I suspect is motherboard again. This one is one week left before warranty expire. I just told the 3rd V10 to stand by and back up everything, prepare for the last one to join the dead club, only different is this last one may be out of warranty. 75% down rate within a year for LG, while we have no problem with iphones and Samsung phones, could it be our handling of the phone? Anyway, I just wanted to highlight to anyone holding a new LG phone, back up your stuffs, the phone may just shut down permanently without warning. And now I have to sign out and drive to the LG service centre again.

  14. By JONATHAN CHENG and EUN-YOUNG JEONG in Seoul and TRISHA THADANI in San Francisco Updated Oct. 10, 2016 3:33 a.m. ET10 COMMENTS Samsung Electronics Co. has temporarily halted production of its troubled Galaxy Note 7, according to a person familiar with the matter, the latest setback for the South Korean technology giant as it struggles to manage a recall of 2.5 million smartphones. The move comes after a spate of fresh reports of overheating and fires with phones that have been distributed to replace the original devices, which also had a risk of catching fire. In a statement Monday in Seoul, Samsung said that it was “temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters,” without elaborating. The production halt underscores the growing seriousness with which Samsung is dealing with its largest product recall to date. Last month, Samsung officials shrugged off reports of overheated batteries, calling the incidents “isolated cases” related to issues of mass production. In a separate statement a few days later, the company said in response to reports about abnormal battery charging levels in its replacement phones that “the issue does not pose a safety concern.” While Samsung hasn’t confirmed the latest reports of problems with its replacement phones, it said in a statement Sunday that it was working with authorities including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate the new incidents. http://www.wsj.com/articles/samsung-to-halt-galaxy-note-7-production-temporarily-1476064520
  15. This accolade used to be held by Nissan note. Recently. Note prices have increased steadily and Suzuki swift became the most budget MIJ. Quite surprising given swift is a lifestyle car and ought to be priced a premium over a practical car like note. Well, if u need a car that has Japanese reliability and quality. A mini like driving experience. Swift (keyless. Push start. 7 airbags. Auto aircon. Cruise n audio controls, 16 inch rims, DRL) can be a consideration .
