    NDP 2023

NDP 2023: Festivities in 5 heartland locations before Padang party on Aug 9 SINGAPORE – National Day festivities will kick off in the heartland the weekend before Singapore turns 58 on Aug 9, with carnival games and activities at five locations across the island. Organised with Sport Singapore, the GetActive! Singapore Heartland Festivals will be held at Bedok, Jurong West, Toa Payoh and Woodlands stadiums, and at Our Tampines Hub. Tickets for these activities, as well as the 2023 National Day Parade (NDP) to be held at the Padang, will be free, with details to be announced soon. On Aug 9, attendees at the five locations may also be able to catch the state flag fly-past. Fireworks will go off at the same time in the heartland and at the Padang. The parade returns to the Padang for the first time since 2019 with the theme Onward As One, which calls on Singaporeans to look forward and move onwards together, said organisers on Thursday. Colonel Terence Ho, chairman of the NDP 2023 Executive Committee, said: “We hope to call upon Singaporeans to look forward confidently, move onwards together, and come together to build a shared future.” He added that the use of “onward” in the theme carries significance to Singaporeans as a direct translation of the Malay word “majulah”. The activities in the heartland will be held on Aug 5 and 6 at Bedok, Jurong West, Toa Payoh and Woodlands stadiums, and on Aug 6 at Our Tampines Hub. They will feature family-friendly programmes such as sports try-outs that promote active lifestyles for people of all ages, as well as live performances. The celebrations at the Padang will feature a new Total Defence Parade, which will showcase the six pillars of Total Defence using floats, machinery used by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Home Team, and multimedia elements. “(We) want to inspire the next generation of Singaporeans to continue to play a very strong role towards the strength and security of Singapore,” said Col Ho, who is the chief engineer officer in the army. Aside from crowd favourites such as the Red Lions, presidential gun salute and fireworks, Singaporeans can also expect an enhanced aerial display to commemorate the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s 55th anniversary. Col Ho said the display will feature more aircraft and manoeuvres than in 2022, but more details will be shared at a later date. Also new to the parade is the Digital and Intelligence Service’s guard-of-honour marching contingent, who will make an appearance for the first time. The service is the SAF’s fourth arm, established in 2022 to provide timely intelligence and to safeguard Singapore against digital threats, including cyber attacks and electronic warfare. The show segment, themed Building Our Shared Future As One, will be told across four acts and three connecting short films. It will tell inspirational stories of Singaporeans who overcame adversity to chase their dreams. They include sprint queen Shanti Pereira, furniture maker and designer Ahmad Habshee, and deaf teacher Charlene Wong. “Coming out from the pandemic (over) the last three years, we want to give Singaporeans that confidence to look forward to the future, to move forward together, and also to build a shared future,” said Col Ho. This is reflected in the upbeat NDP theme song Shine Your Light, which was released on Thursday. The song was composed and co-written by Don Richmond. Singapore rapper Shigga Shay co-wrote the song and also performs on the track with a slate of artists – 53A, The Island Voices, lewloh, Olivia Ong, Iman Fandi and Lineath. The rapper also directed the music video. Richmond, who also wrote the NDP 2022 theme song Stronger Together, said the upbeat and catchy tune aims to ignite the spirit of all Singaporeans and give them something to smile about. “Hopefully, in no time, the kids will be clapping along and singing along as well,” he said. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ndp-2023-festivities-at-sports-stadiums-before-padang-party-on-aug-9 NDP 2023 ticket ballot: Online application to open from May 29 to June 12 https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/ndp-2023-ticket-ballot-online-application-may-29-june-12-2179136 personally, am a fan of fireworks in the heartlands, try out some night photography on my hp.

Finally NDP back to full scale. 'Stronger together, majulah!': NDP 2022 theme encourages Singaporeans to 'forge ahead' as a united and strong people https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/ndp-2022-stronger-together-majulah-red-lions-heartlands-2722271?cid=internal_sharetool_androidphone_02062022_cna
  3. 1. Transport requirements for each primary school are worked out The NDP spectator team will liaise with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the NE Show dates and transport requirements for each primary school. Certain primary schools near an MRT station are specially allocated a chartered MRT train to and fro the parade venue. 2. Chartered MRT Trains are then allocated for primary schools The rail operator slots the specially chartered MRT trains between regular service ones, which will stop at the MRT station near the primary school and the parade venue. Military personnel from the NDP spectator team will coordinate with the MRT station staff on the timing in the afternoon to accompany students and teachers from their primary school to the MRT station. They will first be held at a waiting area on the MRT station platform before their allocated chartered MRT train arrives. These chartered MRT trains are denoted on the station platform screens as a ‘do not board’ train for regular commuters. A chartered MRT train may carry two to three primary schools; thus, each group will have an allocated boarding door to prevent a mix-up. 3. Arrival and departure from the parade venue Students and teachers will alight from the chartered MRT train when arriving at the MRT station near the parade venue. They will first be held at the MRT station platform for a headcount before proceeding to the parade venue on foot. When the NE Show is over in the late evening, the military personnel will accompany students and teachers back to the nearby MRT station. They will board another chartered MRT train back to their respective MRT stations near their primary schools. Chartered MRT Trains are not unique to the National Day Parade According to an article by The Straits Times in 2014, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) had chartered five MRT trains to the National Stadium. The vice-president of corporate information and communications for rail operator SMRT mentioned that they had “worked with schools in the past to charter trains and transport students for large-scale events such as the National Day Parade rehearsals.” “Chartered trains run between normal train services and strictly within off-peak hours only. SMRT assures passengers that train intervals are maintained at normal service levels at all times,” he added. https://blog.sgtrains.com/2022/07/national-day-ne-show-chartered-trains/
  4. Wow. I like this song. The MV is also solid. Not cheesy, great tune and lyrics. Great song to mark the exiting into the new world beyond.
  5. we are celebrating National Day again this year's certainly extraordinary which is why i find the lyrics of the 2002 NDP song very appropriate to describe this year (lyrics by Liang Wenfu) enjoy people, stay safe and soldier on

Singaporeans can therefore expect to see "more intimate and small-scale performances" on television and online, the chairman of the NDP executive committee, Brigadier-General Frederick Choo, stated. In giving an estimate of the numbers for the performance, Choo stated that it will be about 80 to 100 people — a reduction of over 95 per cent from NDP 2019 which saw 2,600 performers in total at the Padang. Final line-up is still being worked out but more local talent will be featured Choo also pointed out that the length of the performances will be shorter unlike previous instances where the acts would last for 10-12 minutes. As such, while the final line-up is still being worked on, more local talents will be featured in the line-up, along with the Home Team and SAF Music and Drama Company. However, large representations of volunteers from the People's Association, SOKA and the Ministry of Education will not be involved. While there are no word on what will be in the funpack yet, Choo stated that it will contain items that allow Singaporeans to interact with the show. There will be enough funpacks for every Singaporean and PR household, which is an estimate of about 1.2 to 1.3 million households. Whether Singaporeans can watch the show live is contingent on Covid-19 guidelines In response to a question about whether a live audience will be featured for the evening show, Choo added that this was contingent on Covid-19 guidelines which the committee was "watching very closely." Choo elaborated that for the moment, the committee was operating on the assumption that the show will be broadcasted live with no spectators. However, should there be an audience, safe distancing measures and other Covid-19 guidelines will be adhered to. Rehearsals to only start after CB ends As for rehearsals for the parade in general, Choo stated that these will only start once the circuit breaker is lifted. Choo then added: "And because of that, all the rehearsals will build up towards to the ninth of August. And that means that this year, we will not have any of the national education shows, neither the preview shows to be ticketed to Singaporeans. It will be the ninth of August National Day show."
  8. Everything I Am | Official NDP 2020 song by Nathan Hartono Erm. I dunno much about music, but I find this MV a bit cringey leh. Don't have the uproaring or patriotic feeling like home. But nevertheless, Nathan Hartono is a talented singer! 🙂

  15. Ok, I did my searches and I could not find any thread started on NDP 2016. I found NDP 2015, 14 etc. So I am starting this thread. However, if I missed a thread that already started for NDP 2016, please forgive me. Struck me that NDP 2016 is the SG51 NDP. (since last year was SG 50). It is the 1st NDP for the next 50 years of Singapore's development. I got a kid who attended the NE show and came back with a fun pack that was quite cool. I loved the Singapore scarf.
  16. NDP tix balloting starts today. Try your luck at http://www.ndp.org.sg/ticket-time/ Good luck!
  17. We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans (new NDP theme song) http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drink-man-woman-16/we-aint-singapore-singaporeans-new-ndp-theme-song-5124890-2.html There was a time when people said That Singapore will shine on, but we didn't There was a time when riots no longer happened and we were happy then they did Our little nation, squeezed and mean, quarreling with one another Where's peace and harmony? This ain't my country, is that my flag? I have no future, I have no life My family is suffering, my friends have left We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans Singapore so glitzy, it’s a chalet but nothing more Foreigners united, they are showing us the door We’ve ended up so broken, our soul-less destiny Singapore at 50, a nation on its knees This ain't my country, is that my flag? I have no future, I have no life My family is suffering, my friends have left We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans We ain't Singapore, we ain't Singapore We will kneel together and see the lion crawl We ain't Singapore, we ain't Singapore We’re a SG50 but nothing more
  18. no one talks about this? anyway i'm boycotting this Leisure Park Kallang (never been there before anyway) sad that our NS boys are being treated like sai again and again
  19. Finally! I have ballot with no success for 10 years. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/permanent-balloting-ban-if-you-sell-your-ndp-tickets#xtor=CS1-10 The price for getting caught selling National Day Parade (NDP) tickets is now a permanent ban from being able to ballot again. Previously, the penalty was a ban of three years. Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong, chairman of the NDP executive committee, said in a statement on Tuesday: "Monetising the privilege to be part of the nation's birthday goes against (its) celebratory spirit... Those found to be involved in such activities will be barred from balloting for future NDPs." He added that the committee is working with online sale sites, including Carousell and eBay. There are still cock-sters selling tickets at this time.
  20. The National Day Parade theme song, which has long been one of the hallmarks of Singapore's birthday celebrations on Aug 9, will be scrapped this year. This will be the first time since 1998 that there will not be an NDP theme song. Instead, parade spectators will be singing familiar and popular songs such as Home and Count On Me Singapore. They will be among 10 songs to be compiled into an NDP 2014 Songs Album. This is in line with this year's theme, Our People, Our Home, said the parade's executive committee chairman, Wong Yu Han, who added that such familiar songs "deeply engage" Singaporeans. "This year, what we want to do is to get our people to bring us back again to those familiar songs that we have grown up with and, importantly, learning to sing together." http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/no-new-theme-song-years-ndp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTkVG6lWvwY FAVORITE! The new songs are unable to strike a chord with Singaporeans at all. I wonder why... OLD IS GOLD.
