I totally agree with Bravo that buying a car is about the experience of ownership.

Personally, I can compare myself with my brother, who purchased a VW Golf at the same time I got my Cruze 1.6.

The ownership experience for the VW Golf was unpleasant, with servicing taking a long time to complete, not to mention that to even get the car serviced, there is a long waiting list.

Adding to the unpleasant experience, the DSG on my brother's Golf also failed after less than 2 years of ownership. It caused the car to stall and had to be towed back to the workshop. Thankfully, this had not happened to me with my Cruze.

The guys at Alpine Motors are really great. My sales advisor still recognises me when I pop by for my servicing and would offer me a test drive (that was how I got to test the Cruze Turbo twice). What made me got the Cruze instead of the Vios or Elantra two years ago was the test drive experience. My sales advisor was eager to let me experience the limits of the car and explained how to get the most out of the engine and chassis. My experience with the test drive of the Elantra was horrible as I felt like an L plate driver with the sales person reminding me to be very careful with the car. For your info, I am just an ordinary driver and not a racer.

Even when my Cruze had series of hiccups (faulty power window, faulty thermostat resulting in a code 89, etc), there were all handled by the service advisors in Alpine Motors without being dodgy with the issues.

So generally, I doubt anyone owning a Cruze will regret their decision. Even though fuel consumption figures may not be stellar, it is understandable due to the heavy body that is supposed to be very safe. Without a doubt, if future models of Chevy Cruze are still value for money, I will go for it.

The NA cruze fuel consumption is not as economical compare to the turbo version due to the missing low end torque.

I'm driving the turbo version and I did reset the fuel consumption meter after the 10K servicing. Now I'm getting >12KM/L with 80% city and 20% highway drive.

The fuel consumption is better than my previous Opel Astra 1.8AH which is around 9-10KM/L.

Both of the cars I've mentioned are from GM and I did not encounter any reliability issue.

Previously driven the Astra 1.8AH for 9+ years with full spec. With the cruze 1.4T, it was a bit of disappointment due to the missing number of airbags (hope will never use it), auto-dim rear view mirror and hill start assist. Hope Alpine can include these in future with current declining COE.

But making a car service appointment with Alpine is a breeze. We can make appointment and servicing on the same week. [laugh] Oops. I've let the cat out of the bag.

But the cruze 1.4T comes with better power and fuel economy than my previous car and is so much spacious.

Finally I bought the cruze turbo is due to the overall package which fits my lifestyle and to start a family.

I got my new cruze 1.4T in less than 2 weeks in Jan 2015 and just in time for my wedding. I've never look back with the current declining COE because I've already use it for my wedding day. And now hope it will serve me for the remaining 10 years without any major issues. [:)]

By the way, how do you reset the fuel economy meter?

To add on,

I will never forget the driving experience when I was asked to test drive the New toyota Altis. The Sales was declaring to me how "powerful" the car is. Citing that the 121bhp is very powerful and asked me if I felt it? So I didnt... So i pressed the accelerator abit more... then the most shocking remarked came... "Can please dun drive so fast?".. I look at the empty straight road and the speedo is like....... lol seriously.... The tin can felt so retarded in acceleration and here the sales is like so braggy about its performance... Wana emphasis on power but I cannot even press abit more.. lol

Seriously not impressed. The worse trade in. The worse plasticky internal parts. The car is at best overpriced for daily driving but please do not over emphasis on performance for the car.... lmao

There's a lot more to say about the humility of the sales person. But I guess I will stop here. U guys will know when u visit their showroom.

Would you guys consider Chevrolet Korean or American?

+++++++++++++

From an avid Honda Fan, previously owned a Honda Civic & Euro Accord overseas (Fantastic cars)... found myself starting to give attention to Korean/American makes in recent years. I consider myself a very careful car buyer, who pays attention to details, and who cross shops extensively. The truth is Japanese Car makers have for the past 10 years been ear shun to consumers preference.

+++++++++++++

Recently been advised not to land my hands on Korean makes; that it has lower resale value and it will perpetually be inferior to Jap Brands. >>> Qn is, if Chevrolet was made in Korea and forcibly considered Korean... and it were to be perpetually inferior... (pardon me for dragging in Kia and Hyundai into the picture too)... But have we all forgotton that most Jap cars sold in Asia were/are made in Thailand or Indonesia? ... and then cos its Jap branded/badged, so it is perpetually better?

Such stigma.... cmi...

Hope the new Hyundai Genesis would serve as a rude awakening to the Japs, but I guess they are still deep in slumber.

Is like asking, "You prefer a Thailand or Japan Toyota" ? All I can say, is a Thai Toyota is as good as Japan ones.

Would you guys consider Chevrolet Korean or American?

I am surprise people are still having this perception that Chevrolet cars are Daewoo cars and hence the discrimination, well that's probably almost 10 years ago.

I giggle when people says Chevrolet is Korean car. When they ask me about Chevrolet, my first respond is are you asking where it is made from OR where does the brand comes from?

I have had Toyota Corolla GL ,Suzuki swift, Toyota Altis, Mitsubishi Lancer and Hyundai Avante in the past and I am proudly saying Chevy Cruze gave the best comfort, ride and sound insulation among all the cars I've driven.

I have seen all the Made in Thai/Indo cars kanna accident and ended like paperr too easily.

On a separate note, I wish AD would 've brought in the Camaro since the Mustang is reaching our shore.

Bro, many are still in denial state and pay higher price for a (Tin-Can) Japanese car. My previous was an Altis. Thereafter, I got a 2011 Cruze and a C180 2-3 years back. From there, I will never go back to Japanese cars. The driving experience of the 2011 Cruze was very quiet and stable even at 140kmh along NSH. Whereas my Altis steering got lighter and floating feeling at 100kmh. Accept pick up lag a little. Comes to maneuvering and cruising, there is no differences between my 2011 Cruze and C180. Infact my C180 is lighter and pick up is better than Altis.

Another no-brainer facts. Petrol comsumption of Japs car better, because the body is lighter. So if you drop a Cruze or C180 engine into Altis, the FC will be better. That the trick.

My FC of previous Altis is 14.5km/L. My current 2011 Cruze and C180, are 12.4km/L and 10.2km/L.

In today's context, those who are still ponding whether the same brand car is from Thailand or Japan, US or Korea are displaying ignorance to supply chain and maunfacturing methodology. They are either being brain-wash by parallel importers or ignorant salesman.

Most mass market and luxury automotive parts are done in Malaysia, Indonesia , Thailand , China or India. My operations are part of the supply chain. The salesman only knows where is car comes from. Not the major or sub-parts. I am not surprise , if parts of my C180 came fom India or China.

IIRC, there was a model of Cruze with gearbox related issue. Is that the 2011 model ?

I would like to believe your no brainer fact that it is because of the lighter body.

I went to check on the specs at SGCarMart.

Mazda 3 vs Cruze Turbo.

1339kg vs 1345kg

17.5km/L vs 14.7km/L

It is hard to believe 6kg difference will make a 2.8km/L difference.

I moved from a Chevrolet Optra to a Toyota. I attribute my dirty throttle body to the low compression ratio.

GM Korea is a rebadged daewoo. Chevrolet is American.

You're in American talk... or should this Thread be shifted to Korean Talk?

What about Chrysler? Buick? are they Chinese Cars? perhaps rebadged Cherry?

GM Korea is GM.

Chevrolet Cruze is a rebadged Daewoo.

GM's original Chevrolet Cruze is derived from Suzuki Swift.

On January 20, 2011, General Motors announced that GM Daewoo would be renamed GM Korea "to reflect [Daewoo's] heightened status in [the] global operations of GM,"[2] effective March 2011. Most of the former Daewoo products were rebadged as Chevrolets. GM´s luxury division Cadillac is also available in South Korea.

what is wrong with rebadge, is daewoo that bad? Perhaps a pix will tell more....

unless you talk about a corvette, then that is a true blue American chevrolet product.
