Viceroymenthol 6th Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 The govt should just stop wasting time talking about COE and just hike it to unimaginable levels. As well as ERP. At the same time, doubly ramp up the construction of more MRT lines and bus and taxi routes so that the general populace can travel in speed and comfort. Govt should also consider the opening up of privately-run feeder bus routes to those areas unreachable by public transport. If HK can, why we cannot? Viceroymenthol 6th Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 some people filthy rich...of course can say that.. It is not about being filthy rich. It is about whether you want Singapore to be like HK or Bangkok/Jakarta. One is a 1st world economic powerhouse with high transport efficiency, the other two..... It is time Singaporeans looked at the big picture and not still be stuck in the well being self-centred and petty, thinking only of Me, Me, Me! Look at our physical size - how to accommodate so many cars? It is just simple common sense. If not happy, there is always Australia, NZ, JB, etc.. Viceroymenthol 6th Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 Govt should provide affordable housing for all citizens - this i agree. Roof over one's head is a fundamental human right. For example, even if the father is a drug addict or gambler and lost the flat, the wife and children shouldn't have to suffer. Govt should provide affordable food and education for all citizens - this i also agree. Nobody, no child or old folks, should have to go hungry or go without basic nutritious food. All children and adults should also be given an equal opportunity to basic education and an opportunity to do well in school regardless of financial status, as Singapore is based on a meritocratic system. The above, I support. But since when is driving and owning a car a human right? It is like saying owning a condo or a house is a basic human right. Like saying owning country club membership is a basic human right. Ridiculous right? It is not like you are being forced to walk 20 miles to school or to the office, like in the old days. And even back then, people did it without complaint. Singaporeans have got their priorities all facked up.
Kopites Supersonic July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 These tens of thousands of low COE cars are jamming up the roads everyday. Tens of thousands of ill-trained drivers causing accidents and jams everywhere! Even ambulances are stuck in jams because of the tens of thousands of noobie drivers who could only afford cheap, slow, underpowered cars! Even worse, most of these slow underpowered car drivers are borderline affordability car owners who pussyfoot their pedals to save on fuel! And park illegally to save on parking charges! No money please don't drive lah! KNN want to howlian drive some cheap crappy slow car, save petrol save parking, for what? "Face"? I wish COE will rise past $100k so that there will be fewer cars on the road! Rise past $200k even better! And can the govt please ban financing and loan on COE! Can only pay in cash! And hike the ERP to central areas to $100 a day! Say no to low COE! Say no to traffic jams! You will be wishing there were fewer cars on the road when you're in critical condition in an ambulance stuck in a jam with inconsiderate noobie drivers who block your path! These traffic jams are seriously taking a toll on economic productivity. Can you imagine how much time is wasted sitting in a jam! Ok Ok your view indeed come through and there are lesser (passenger) car on the road. So what now stuck(mingle) with more public buses, taxi etc on the road? More ex driver(family) on public transport. You are back to square one.

Kopites Supersonic July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 My take is for government to construct more fly-over....hmm....like what we seem in those animation movie. It will surely aid in reducing the current traffic chaos. At the same time boast up the local constructing industry.

So what now stuck(mingle) with more public buses, taxi etc on the road? More ex driver(family) on public transport. You are back to square one. Our govt is doing their best. They just ordered a thousand new buses and with more to come. The only thing I wish they would relinquish restriction over is the ban on privately-run commercial buses. That one, you know why and i know why lah. These private bus companies can be the answer to filling the final piece of the jigsaw in our mass public transport system. Those people living in deep ulu estates will have no reason to complain anymore. Just wish they'd stop being so hypocritical about it. If reason for privatisation of bus and MRT companies is to increase business efficiency, then why the need for protectionism? Everybody knows that competition is healthy as it results in lower prices, better services and benefits the consumer. Just as long as all of them don't form a cartel to fix prices. Private companies only have to be profitable and to be accountable to shareholders and employees. If protectionism is added to this equation, then the customers, being a captive market, cease to be in the equation. That's why we had the SMRT fiasco. Privatising public services was a mistake from the start. If Govt acknowledges public transport is a Govt responsibility, then don't try to privatise it. If want to privatise it, then open up the market to private players and more competition. Edited July 24, 2012 by Viceroymenthol
