Rubbermat Clutched July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 These tens of thousands of low COE cars are jamming up the roads everyday. Tens of thousands of ill-trained drivers causing accidents and jams everywhere! Even ambulances are stuck in jams because of the tens of thousands of noobie drivers who could only afford cheap, slow, underpowered cars! Even worse, most of these slow underpowered car drivers are borderline affordability car owners who pussyfoot their pedals to save on fuel! And park illegally to save on parking charges! No money please don't drive lah! KNN want to howlian drive some cheap crappy slow car, save petrol save parking, for what? "Face"? I wish COE will rise past $100k so that there will be fewer cars on the road! Rise past $200k even better! And can the govt please ban financing and loan on COE! Can only pay in cash! And hike the ERP to central areas to $100 a day! Say no to low COE! Say no to traffic jams! You will be wishing there were fewer cars on the road when you're in critical condition in an ambulance stuck in a jam with inconsiderate noobie drivers who block your path! These traffic jams are seriously taking a toll on economic productivity. Can you imagine how much time is wasted sitting in a jam! These statements which I fully agreed & support!!! ↡ Advertisement

Kiario 5th Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 everyone is talking lotsa of jams nowadays due to cheap coe. maybe its my travelling pattern, weekdays leave home for work at 6am+ via CTE, then PIE Tuas, then reach bukit batok, smooth traffic unless major accident. leave work for home at 5pm+ via BKE, SLE then TPE, also smooth unless got major accident. my feeling is that jams will happen in any countries as long as there is major accident. as for travelling into the cbd area, i hardly do that even on weekends. Tayspiderx 3rd Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 Singapore dollar strengthens against Euro. COE goes up so no difference to European car buyers. Hope the COE will go down soon. Else cannot change car Guess AD willing to hold car price is due to recent further drop in EUROs.

Kiario 5th Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 May be should enforce same tactic like Beijing even and odd car plate to drive on each alternate days i think there is no perfect solution anywhere in the world, some suggestion such as no loans allowed for car purchase should be enforced although it will be difficult to control the loopholes. Watwheels Supersonic July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 (edited) May be should enforce same tactic like Beijing even and odd car plate to drive on each alternate days Beijing is under commie rule leh, anyone who opposes their policy will either be exile or get shot. Sgp is a so called democratic society. Can recall our pledge? ....so as to achieve happiness(where got happy? Stressed out? Yes.), prosperity(everything so expensive, common ppl are not the ones enjoying this) & progress(the widening gap between the rich & the poor) for our nation. I put a facepalm to the above. So many things put under restriction & under control is not my idea of democratic society. I think there are better ways to manage the congestion problem. One is to improve on public transportation which is most basic, let commuters have more options, bring in private bus companies. Remove all the nonsense surcharge on taxis. Happily1986 5th Gear July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Our govt is doing their best. They just ordered a thousand new buses and with more to come. The only thing I wish they would relinquish restriction over is the ban on privately-run commercial buses. That one, you know why and i know why lah. These private bus companies can be the answer to filling the final piece of the jigsaw in our mass public transport system. Those people living in deep ulu estates will have no reason to complain anymore. Just wish they'd stop being so hypocritical about it. If reason for privatisation of bus and MRT companies is to increase business efficiency, then why the need for protectionism? Everybody knows that competition is healthy as it results in lower prices, better services and benefits the consumer. Just as long as all of them don't form a cartel to fix prices. Private companies only have to be profitable and to be accountable to shareholders and employees. If protectionism is added to this equation, then the customers, being a captive market, cease to be in the equation. That's why we had the SMRT fiasco. Privatising public services was a mistake from the start. If Govt acknowledges public transport is a Govt responsibility, then don't try to privatise it. If want to privatise it, then open up the market to private players and more competition. the paper excuse tendered officially is that the singapore market is small and lacks the critical mass to support two many players. These many players apparently will see to the demise of economy of scales. It might also have been mentioned that relentless price wars that might otherwise ensue will ultimately hurt the consumers since strained profit margins will eventually realise a need to clawback losses, from the consumers. This line of reasoning seemed be highly similar to the one employed when the higher ups decided that 4 big local banks was all they can have locally. Big banks are a good thing apparently because they have or can break into regional or even overseas market and the heft comes in handy during competition. Well, we all know now that the two operators have substantial operations overseas. If I am not wrong, I believe Singapore is simply a nursery for them, to beef up the companies locally so that they can have a go regionally/internationally. But at who's expense? Bystander50 5th Gear July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 very wayang ... all the reasons given to rebut caller is bias to industry and not from car owner point of view ie: the panel said pay as you bid is not fair as some pay high some pay low and used car market price will fluctuate higher as similar car has disparate pricing due to coe high/low that's the whole point. who is in their right mind to bid high coe if they cant sell their car later. so, everyone will be very very mindful in bidding coe ... imagine one guy yayapapaya bid $100k and the other guy got it at $30k pay as you bid will instill the culture to bid as low as possible. what say you? That is why I kept saying ADs are the ones who are pushing up the COEs. Get them out of the picture for bidding and move taxis to Cat E or a seperate category. After some time, COE prices will plunge and stabilise. ADs bid high coz it's not their money. If it's your money, would you bid at this insane amount. Let's see if LTY is bold enough to implement a law to bar ADs from bidding. All talks of lowering COEs are bs till they make proper and workable solutions. ↡ Advertisement
