Some people just don't learn ... [dead]

A police report has been lodged against a male student from Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) after a video uploaded on YouTube showed him telling crude racist jokes.

20 year-old Justin Wee, a first-year student at SIM, is under fire for spewing vulgarities and making racist remarks in the five-minute video, which was captured by an National University of Singapore (NUS) student and uploaded online.

His friends are shown in the video bursting out in laughter repeatedly at his jokes, even egging him on to tell them more.

Wee, a dancer for NUS' Rag Day celebrations, has since told The New Paper that he was drunk at the time of the incident. He explained that he and some friends had gathered at Kent Ridge Hall in NUS to celebrate the end of an orientation activity.

the current young generation (especial the teens till mid twenties) grew up in a very sheltered environment.

The slightly ok household will have cars to ferry them to school or fetch them back when they stayed late at school.

The thinking is also less mature due to a lack of interest in reading books out of the syllabus, and less time (maybe).

Spending too much time on tuition or projects, and less time on their own reflection, exploration.

A lack of emphasis in the humanities for the education in the past two decades had weakened the young teachers/principals too.

Social network has been more popular for the past 4-5 years too.

great man stand on shoulders of giants. Reflection is required for this little red dot, indeed.

he said racist jokes in his personal capacity within private social circle...like that consider a big offence? its like u said some racist comments at home to your parents, your nephew recorded and upload into youtube...does that mean u need to go to jail for that?

its not like he openly make racist remarks in a public speech

meting out punishment to a lack of racial awareness that cuts deep into the social fabric of the young is a myopic or weak approach.

Maybe kee chew or new ministry CCY has to look into it?

the problem is he had no right to privacy, as he wasnt making the comments at home. he was also "aware" (and i use that loosely, since he claims he was drunk, but that doesnt make for a defense) that he was being filmed .. and instead of behaving or apologizing to the camera, he proceeds to show his "ahbengness" (for lack of a better word)

i think if the authorities turn a blind eye then future cases may be able to cite this ... (but i could be wrong in that aspect)

people are racists, sexists, watever-cist in nature.

If all the same race, then they try to smear the closest difference in dialect groups or maybe even from different geographical territory.

Bo liao.... but human. Bo bian....

Then either the one who upload the videos has a serious lack of judgement what is to be broadcasted to everyone or he is trying to sabo someone

Then this should mean lack of judgement of the severity of such remarks
