But when you lived there from a while, you will start to get the mindset that 50k is expensive for a car, & 1 million, you expect to live in a big house, or a house at an exotic location, not an apartment. [laugh]

The cost of the humble evo I used to drive in Singapore, I can get a 911 Turbo, or at least a high end Porsche, but I did not get a Porsche (yet) there, as I mention, perspective change.

Anyway, Germans are 'stingy' people, by Singapore standards, most Singaporeans do not think twice about gadgets like Ipad, expensive SLR, Iphone, but most Germans would say, waste of money, unless they are fans, or really into photography. LOL.

but when they like something, they can really spend money, & effort, like their love of the heating system. I have a friend that buy a bloody book on heating system (novel size), complete with nerdy maths & physics on the system. He will told me, how he can make use of the energy from cooking, from bathing, & have a close loop, & controls in basement. Obviously, I know nuts. And all the insulation, installation & work are DIY, in good old German tradition.

There is a reason why they are leader in Engineering field. Even their women know more about fixing/build stuff at home than the average Singapore man, I reckon.

Yup, Germans do tend to get fixated on one thing, no matter how weird or dumb it seems to others. It's alright as long as it's not the whole country falling into a single obsession. The last time that happened, National Socialism happened.

Yes agreed.

perspectives changes depending on situation.

Lunch for me there was $25 - $35 and dinner was minimum $50 unless i stay at home to cook or have fast food.

When i returned to SG, i suddenly felt that food was dirt cheap..... and alchohol was overpriced, not to mention cigars.....

:D

Do you realize it is double or triple the food portions for maybe only 1.5 times the cost or less, even after the currency conversion and tips ?

As far as I know, at the brunch places in Singapore, it is S$40 per tiny meal with tiny starter and tiny dessert.

I feel that trattoria/bistro/restaurant food is cheaper in Europe than in Singapore.

Nope. It was not double nor triple. It was standard portion like what I would get in Singapore

This was more than 10 yrs ago. and i was comparing then to then .

Lunch (one main + one drink) at a cafeteria / corporate food court was about $25

In Singapore, comparable was only $10 or $15 max max.

"Economy Rice" was also available in Europe at about $8 per 100g.

Usually if i eat this, i end up with about 300g of food which is about $25.

In Singapore (10 yrs ago), it will not be more than $8 in the best foodcourt.

Then, a can of coke at the train station is $3

A sandwich is easily $5

(more than 10 yrs ago)

Now it is more.

A plate of normal portion wanton mee at a normal chinese restaurant is $25.

I dont think i need to say how much it is in Singapore (more than 10 yrs ago)

-_-

Nowadays it would not be so much cheaper in singapore , but still cheaper.

Note that a bistro to them is nothing more than a kopitiam to us.

anyway super OT, lets get back to topic. you got your manual 911?

Oh we'll I was comparing food like sausages, fancy eggs, panini, pasta, bistecca, roast pork and stuff as these have increasingly become common Singaporean breakfast and brunch/lunch food, singapore being a cosmopolitan city with westernised locals. The portions in europe are twice as huge as the pathetic Singaporean portions for a little bit more in price.

Wasn't comparing Singaporean wantan noodles with European wantan noodles. But you have a point there if you are referring to the basic staple food of both continents - Singaporeans/Asians eat economical rice and noodles and Europeans eat lots of bistro food that you term their version of "coffee shop food".

As for the Porsche 911, I don't think I can afford the depreciation on a mid-end and fairly new example. The ones I can afford are not ideal. I want the 997 facelift 2009 and later model, and at least an S or 4S and these are currently out of my budget, so no I can't afford it.

Plus living in a cheap house driving such a car, i'd look like a bloody wanker, hahahhaha..... Must live in at least a landed 5,000 square feet and above D10 semi-d then I dare to be seen in one. Otherwise get ridiculed by people.... "Stay cheap small house, drive expensive car... PUI!" [laugh]

Fully paid, nobody will ridicule, at least not me.

[laugh]

Hi, noticed that the wall of front left tire has a small crack and a little rubber inside the tire is showing. Read somewhere it is quite common for Goodyear F1 Assymetric. Do you think this covered under warranty? My ride is 10 months old. Thanks.

It may be common for Goodyear but definitely not for all tyres. Get it replaced. Tyres are the only contact pts for your car.

Yes it is covered.

You can get it replaced.

Tyre wall cracking can be no big deal or it can be a damn big deal so dont gamble on it.

Do get it replaced.

I have used Goodyear Eagle F1 on my 525i and 630i, never experienced any tyre wall cracking.

These are the ones made in germany.

I had F1 on my BMW but changed them to CSC5 after one side of the rear set "exploded". My bad as the rear tires were badly wore but only after 20k Km. I will call Porsche tomorrow to arrange a change. Plan not driving the 970 till then. Thanks and have a good evening.

20k km is quite good. I don't think the rears on my 991 will last more than 15k km. Any reason why you are not getting Michelin PSS (pilot super sports)? A lot of people in the P-car community swear by it.

The F1 was default for my 970 R19. I have not tried PSS, maybe next time. Actually, i should change the BMW rear tires at 15k but cheapo abit and dragged to around 20k. First 2 set of rear tires literally exploded and had to be towed. Lucky never lost control and credit card provides free towing services. My experience with CSC5 on my BMW has been quite positive. So hv bn sticking to CSC5.
