many ways for making a living....

... many prefer the easy ways.....

eg:

if confirm cannto pass LTA,

the owner wanna hiong is one thing,

why the seller wanna bring it in ?

then those solar shield,

100% black out,

they bring it in confirm is to sell what.

just like drug users and drugs seller.

Willing buyer willing seller. IMHO, the onus is on the buyer to know what's "right or wrong" and make the decision themselves. No one's gonna point a gun at you to force you to purchase any products and/or services.

Nah -

You go to a workshop for their expertise, there should be a reasonable expectation that mainstream stuff you buy from them is legal.

Unless it is specific to the car, but otherwise - is up to the workshop to know what is allowed, part of what you pay them is for their expertise.

How to catch? Apart from undercover operations that is.

How are they going to force an owner to provide the details of the workshop? Detain the car until the information is coughed up? What if i don't keep receipts and workshop-hop then how? Or everyone simply answers "AH DI MOTOSHOP, SDN BHD".

Unless you catch them red-handed trying to sell illegal mods to car owners. But what are the actual laws applying to workshops regarding this? They cannot sell or cannot install or both? How do these laws apply to freelancers? How do you apply record-keeping standards apart from what is required by ACRA and IRA etc? Some workshops still operating on handwritten receipts.

100% blackout window tint is not an illegal product, but installing it on a car is. There is a distinction.

The onus is on the owners, not the workshops. Unless you can prove the workshop is misrepresenting a product or alteration as LTA-legal when it is actually not, the ultimate decision still lies with the owner as he has the final say on purchasing the product or service.

I agree with you about the expertise part. However, if the car owner still chooses to do something deemed "illegal" to their ride, I don't think it should be up to the workshop to refuse.

And as Mllcg said, its only illegal to be installed on a daily-driven car. If I buy a car which is never gonna be on the roads, I can install as many "illegal" mods as I want. Hence, I don't think the authorities are able to do anything about workshops, unless they reword the laws to include "no illegal alterations/modifications absolutely allowed, be it for track or normal cars."

If not, they technically can't punish/fine workshops per se, cuz its not in the law.

If really chasing money...

I would think can fine workshops far more than individual.

Anyway, just seize the shop records - so who install illegal and fine all one shot - like that very very efficient

thats like how all those that patronized the below 18 year old prostitute got caught...

What is the definition of illegal modification? LTA will have do a thorough study on this.

I believe they will work with automotive distributors/brands to draft out the baseline in due time.

Performance or maintenance related?

So far what are mentioned are exhaust output, engine enhancement and lighting.

Is getting interesting...

I believe as long as there are inconsiderate and reckless buggers who watched too much need for speed and with i have a bigger, bad-der, more expensive and pimp up cars, i own the road mentality. Then we need to be herded like farm animals.... Again. Sigh

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is reviewing the enforcement regime against workshops which illegally modify vehicles.

2,645 summonses were issued for illegal modification offences for all vehicle types in 2010.

The figure went up to 7,322 in 2011.

For motorcycles, 341 summonses were issued for illegal modifications in 2010, and 1,175 summonses in 2011.

In 2012, the figure shot up to 7,239 summonses for illegal vehicle modifications in the first eight months alone.

1,405 summonses were for illegal motorcycle modifications.

In a written reply to Parliament, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said no one has been jailed for illegal modification offences.

Enforcement actions are currently focused on owners of illegally modified vehicles.

No summonses have been issued against motor vehicle workshop owners so far.

At the end of the day, WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO SHOW ???? What's their agenda ??

Twincharged

I guess the numbers increased cuz LTA sending more people out to check la. That day just saw 2 LTA officers taking pics of a car from all angles parked near my block. A bright orange Vios SGL8*8*. Lots of mod. Body kit, big wing and interior LED running up and down his A pillar. But his interior LED really too bright la. Guess he will receive a letter since his car was parked there.

Seriously, i'm in full support for the law to clamp down illegal modification. Those inconsiderate jokers who like to race down the road in the middle of the night with their supper loud exhaust, even 2 blocks away also can hear their zoom zoom sound. Hope this can help to put a stop to these nonsence buggers.

Highly doubt anything is gonna be done.

There are lots of ways to cover up.

Besides most of the parts are imported. How are you gonna tackle that problem? Ban imports of car exhaust systems from japan, germany, usa, etc?

That could be viewed as protectionism which is contrary to free trade agreements. Retaliation my occur and the beggar thy neighbour theory will come into play.
