Nzy Twincharged February 22, 2014 Share February 22, 2014 And a very idiotic act. He is on a fixie which has no brakes and the rear hub doesn't coast, so dangerous unless you have very good skills. Events like OCBC won't allow them. Don't understand why people like to ride fixies on the roads. I thought they are supposed to be for the tracks only. No matter how good their skills are, their braking distance still longer than normal bikes with brakes right? ↡ Advertisement

No matter how good their skills are, their braking distance still longer than normal bikes with brakes right? Hipster trend. Bike messengers in the US use them, even in San Francisco on their steep hills. Braking can be just the same as normal bikes, but you have to have the skills/ability. This guy doesn't hence an idiot to ride it on the road.

I didn't even know about brakeless fixies until I watched Premium Rush on a flight. I thought he was kidding about "no brakes" until I looked it up and realised there really were people who were *that* insane.
Mustank Hypersonic February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Read on one of the cycling Facebook pages that the bike looks very very familiar to a recent stolen bike. So if that is the case, then the rider will be caught up with the law for some reason sooner rather than later. And a very idiotic act. He is on a fixie which has no brakes and the rear hub doesn't coast, so dangerous unless you have very good skills. Events like OCBC won't allow them. Bicycles got no brakes one?!???! These jokers better hope they crash into my truck instead of some small kid At least, I wont ask them for marnie and won't break their legs

If they want to slow down have to pedal slower. The feeling is totally different from riding a normal bicycle. Kind of like my son's tricycle. No freehub. When the pedal stops spinning the wheel stops also. Edited February 23, 2014 by Nzy
1fast1 Supersonic February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Ya. The speed of the bicycle is controlled by the pedal. If they want to slow down have to pedal slower. The feeling is totally different from riding a normal bicycle. Kind of like my son's tricycle. No freehub. When the pedal stops spinning the wheel stops also. No practical experience. But I understand physics, so there is that. Gradual slowing can be achieved by just pedalling more slowly. But if you want to slow down in a hurry, it takes a lot more skill. Basically you have to shift your body weight forward (off the rear wheel) while locking the pedals (freezing your feet motion). This will cause a stopping torque to very quickly reduce forward momentum. Then you lean back to get the rear wheel back in full contact with the ground. If you do it from a high enough speed or when traction is at a premium (slippery road, on a curve), you will get rear wheel lock. Unless you control the bike properly while it's wheel locked, you will run into serious trouble like the guy in the video. You can even pedal backwards in a fixie. And that's pretty cool, but largely useless and frankly dangerous if it's done outside a controlled setting.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the mechanics of stopping a bike with all the body weight forward and leaning back in full contact thingie...?? BabyBlade Internal Moderator February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Bike .... Bicycle or motor-cycle ... Ya so misleading. I only came in here because of the word 'bike'.
Jokerd 2nd Gear February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 I still think the basic highway theory pass is a must for cyclist wanting to ride on the road. Simple thing like stop on red light, they got it wrong. In this event of of running red light and banging in pedastrain, a driver is liker to have his license suspended ontop of fine or jail. What punishmnent can the cyclist get? Fine ? Can he be suspended from riding? No bicycle license to begin with, thus hard to implement. He hit the guy in dark blue t-shirt and didn't even check if he was all right. Just continue to cycle on...

Xpose Clutched February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Nothing compared to the dumbest thing I've saw last Saturday morning around 9:30am. There is this huge group of cyclists wearing red, cycling and occupying the left most lane along BKE, after Mandai exit heading toward KJE. Wondering if the lead or the organising community knows that they are not supposed to cycle on the expressways....
