For rich people, even if the govt add surcharge for 2nd car per household will not make any difference bcos they have many houses too!

Must give people a choice la, maybe to some it's better for ownself bid even with such inconvenience, but to others, they just want hassle free and leave it to AD to made a bid. So cannot just because of ownself die die want ownself bid and recommend to have ownself bid system and to others who want the convenience will be " what the !! "

Today we already have that choice, but why are all buyers giving it to the dealers to bid?

Cos the dealers manipulate the price of cars without COE. U bid COE.. they up the car price. They bid.. the car is cheaper. Who in the right mind will then start to bid COE themselves and pay the penalty knowing that the COE is already about there.

best is all car must be priced without coe

dealer cannot bid coe EXCEPT buyer sign the authority form to allow dealer to bid

by doing so, the 1st party to bid coe is the buyer

those uncle/aunty who don't want to bid and richie who don't even care about coe can happily sign the authority form for dealer to bid

buyer bid coe + bid as you pay = who is dumb enough to throw high money into coe?

But you also cannot control deal chut stunt and give discount when you sign on the authorised form. Back to sq one.

all these suggestions are useless

the only way to ease congestion is via education.

do you need a car to ferry your kids and do shopping? car makes your life easy. but when the congestion comes, it's you who contributed to it. so don't complain.

most people can't differentiate between needs and wants. a car to do your errands and to pick up girls are the easiest way. and it's natural for human to seek the easy way out.

and when people say they don't have a choice? they already made the choice to post in this forum. the only people which i think they don't have a choice is when they are born blind..

its their choice whether they want to walk that 100m (or more) or drive or take a bus. Money talks.

This is bull. In the 1st place, car is a commercial product, anyone who has money can afford to buy. if you have no money then you cant afford to buy. Is this fair or not? Not fair right? This thing call ownership of car is not supposed to be fair at all. Get this into your head people. COE is to restrict number of cars. Whether one own how many cars, it is still within the figure the government wants. If the figure is not in the favour of road congestion, then reduce the figure.

I find this whole thing getting more and more ridiculous. All the bull come out just to please those who want fair and this and that.

I was thinking Self bid + tie to driving license. No license drive what car ? tio bo ?

1 license can bid 1 time. if more than once , impost acceleration % on next bid . if more than twice, double accelerator %

This way, no worry about using other family member's name. [cool]

Ofcourse if the whole family is bus drivers , then bo bian. [laugh]

so many people surviving without a car with no problems...so i guess nobody really cars about us.....

the COE is a stupid but its better than any other system. you can say lottery with $0 COE, but imagine if you never strike it...got $$ also cannot drive!!!!!!!!! or you can say low fixed COE, then who gets it? first come first serve? ppl queuing and sleeping outside dealership at the end of the month to be the first to clock the sale at the start of the month???? then we will see bosses getting their banglas or working ppl paying students to line up.....

what is the root cause???? why are dealership bidding so high??? If there are only 3 dealership, do you think they will bid so high? So in this case, 'fair' competition (more dealerships, PI, more brands) actually drives the price up (every dealer die die must get the paper to move their stock and the big boys out to kill everybody else).

moral of story??? when you try to implement something 'fair', sometimes it turns out worst. Just look at EPL broadcast rights.

We should not penalise anyone for being richer than the others. Generally, this is a reward for success.

If one's pay is insufficient to get a car, he/she should save so that he/she would have more money to outbid. However, if others are much richer, he/she has to accept his/her fate.

Those who can study, do mainstream education. Those with special needs, go to SPED schools. Those who cannot study, pick up a skill.

To bring down COE prices (I don't care about fairness, I just want to pay less tax/COE to govt), I am beginning to think we need not bother with the rich as they will still buy with high taxes and get around restrictions via other means (money can solve a lot of problems), so better to further tighten measures and stop those without at least 50k cash in the bank to buy cars or impose a minimum income requirement (ie. monthly depreciation cannot exceed 10% of take home pay) on all buyers. Then set up a department to hear the exceptional cases from poor folks who die die must have a car and allocate these applicants a subsidized loan/COE if it all makes sense.

What fairness? Nothing is fair in this world. Just level the playing field for all (including removing excessive leverage) and that is the fair thing to do.

Please don't flame me, just kidding around on a bored Friday morning.... LOL

IMO considered COE, actually the better off ones with more cars and changing new ones often should be maintained in order to give flow to used cars.

COE if restricted to them in the name of "fairness" to the mass will see their cars held for many many years and therefore choke the flow of used cars. This in turn will not be good for the mass on a tight budget.

Super cars excluded of course while they are more or less for the niche and rich.
