If only making noise in one direction, it mostly the steering rack problem. It is quite expensive item, but to have a piece of mind, bite the bullet :)

Supersonic

Wow..thanks for the suggestions/contacts...will go there soon!

LEXUS says it is the universal joint of the steering column. But the expert mechanics of the car stealer says no way, but dont know whats wrong...well enough of those idiots who think they know everything.

Of course the car stealer mech act blur lah. If it's within 6 mths, go and consult CASE on the lemon law b4 u do anything in case u want to go to the small claims tribunal to claim back from stealer later.

All

Bought a lexus rx400 recently. Many issues with knocking sound from the steering column when turning left especially when road is a bit uneven. Sent to a few workshop recommended by the 2nd hand car dealer but all could not diagnose the issue. They claimed they could not hear or feel the knocking sound but went ahead to tightened everything.

Problem is i can hear or feel it everytime i drove the car. My wife who is not mechanically inclined also can feel/hear it.

so, i need help from bros/sis on this forum who may have encounter similar issues to help me diagnose the issue OR recommend me a good workshop that may be able help me (other than lexus)

BTW, i bought from Turf City. Never trust those guys again. ..my car still stinks from cig smell. All empty promises from dealer to help remove it. Quite embarassing to hear remarks of ...Your car reeks of cig smell...from my friends

I got a used car with cig smell too. Can be easily removed.

1. Mix some white vinegar with water (can put in those sprinkler bottle which can be bought from Daiso). Wipe the car interior including the fabric. This works like magic!

2. Then go Daiso buy those charcoal packs and leave them inside your car.

3. The smell will be gone after a few days.

Neutral Newbie

I understand from a dealer that is a common problem in estima, not a major poblem. So I guess if you go to any mechanic specialises in toyota like Hanip o Ricardo they should be able to help.

hi don't be depressed by this steering colum problems. it could be just the hose problems.

go to any outside mechanic - lexus rx issue are relatively cheap to rectify.

i have been driving rx350 for almost 5 years relatively problem free - but once problem pop up - if u go to bornoe can be very very expensive.

just to illustrate u an example

my friend rx350 has radiator leak/fan spoilt / steering hose leak. bornoe quote him 7k to do it. but we got it done at 2.3k at my regular mechanic.

just like many brothers say...go to ricardo or hanip - those guys should be cheaper than bornoe. (just stay away from bornoe - they are real sucker , u pay for the coffee and pastry and the nice service). lexus is never cheap to maintain if u go back to them.

Buy from used car dealer always whack the lowest price then used the money saved for future repairs.

Their promises are well.....just empty promises.

Anyway, if you want a experienced mechanic you can PM me. He does a lot of Toyotas, esp Mark X. His workshop is at Sin Ming Autocare.

Bro, can PM me the workshop? Thks
