For tim sum, try ming garden. They have quite a few branches. Much better than tim ho wan.

For outlet shopping go to ap lei chau. It's on hong kong island. Much much better and up to date. The prada and miu miu outlet is also near by.

If you like pasar malam kind of shopping, try sam shui po. Its a day market so go around lunch time and spend a couple of hours there. No need to bargain but must speak cantonese. Lots of hand phone cases etc. The golden computer centre is also there for cheap computer accessories. Lots of nice street food too. If you are there try the roast gooseking, cheap and good.

If you go to central, go down wellington street. You should see mak's noodles-1 michellin star. Not cheap but good. Also same street, you will find yung kee - most famous for roast goose - expensive. For a nice typical hong kong cafe try tsui wah. The best is in wellington street, but they are everywhere! If you can tahan- avoid lunch time cos it is crowded. All restaurants and cafes have tea specials - regular items at cheaper price.

Have a good trip.

Just a heads up for everyone... the original Tim Ho Wan 添好運 at Kwong Wah Street (the gun street) is no longer in operation. Other outlets at Sham Shui Po and IFC (Central).

are you referring to 添好運?

This is a must try if you are in HK. here is a pic of the mongkok outlet. after eating there, the opp building (only open after 12 noon), sell a lot of toys guns and weapons which is the exact replica of the real guns like AK47, GPMG, MP5, etc.

and if you are into collecting car models, you can get those highly detailed models there as well.

S$500/- per night can stay at Penisular Hotel near the Habour Front ..... [bounce2]

Plenty of high class shopping centres there. And be sure to go to the back lanes of those shopping centres to try their street hawkers on tricycles selling 'sweet potatoes'. Only in cold weather especially in Dec, they appear selling 'sweet potatoes'.... [flowerface]

Would it be more cost effective

1. to purchase a HK sim card in HK to make local calls n surf the net

2. use starhub IDD to make hk calls and receive SGP calls

3 . purchase a HK calling card in SGP, then all SGP calls will divert to that card? Actually i am also not sure how it works but thats what the vendor told me. Not sure how to make local calls if using this card.

Thanks!

Most hotels in hk are expensive, esp during holidays season. Cheapest rate also needs at least $170, unless you stay in those budget hotel.
