recently car keep cannot start, went to a shop to check batt and they say its still 99%. meaning good. thus told me might me 3rd party alarm problem.

so went home disarm, and next day car batt was ok. can start engine.

went to shop change another set of alarm.

initial was ok for 1mth. now problem started again.

batt keep go below 10v(but lucky i have a portable jump start kit)

in this case, is it possible battery still 99% healthy but unable to hold charge?

is it recommend to change the batt even though batt still healthy?

It is possible, but need to check electrolyte condition. The shop should know how to check.

The other thing is to check for how much leakage/parasitic current your car has.

3rd party alarm, 2-way in particular, can consume more current, since it's always using the battery to transmit data.

Dumb alarm only receive, it used much less current, so less parasitic current.

Why would anyone still want to install an alarm in these days?

Does your car alarm make special alarm sound that you can differentiate from other alarming alarms?

Do you bother to check when car alarms go off in the carpark?

It is just another noise polluting devices.

i frequent jb. kena hammer on the windows once and things inside was stolen. thus having a 2way alarm now. and shock sensor.

At least when kena hammer again the alarm will sound, maybe not useful but at least can attract people attention and scare them abit.

anyway check the batt.. left 9%.. funny is 1 week ago was still at 99%.

If happen again most likely is the alarm that i install.. then L L has to remove it

Your alarm and sensor needs juices 24/7 when armed. While it does not drain as much as leaving headlights on, it is still quite substantial drain considering there are also other stock electrical/electronic stuff like immobilizer and remote system that constantly working 24/7. All these add up.

I have never requested alarms to be equipped for my current and previous rides. But, the SEs did advise me not to install and there's no need at all as almost all cars are equipped with immobilizers.

Actually in Singapore there is no need to install an alarm in cars. I hardly activate my alarm while in Singapore, always lock the doors with the key!

But the alarm does come useful when in cases of heavy rain and you need to dash into the car quickly. And for those who have many things to carry in their hands (eg, gocery bags, a baby or other stuff) and not convenient to use the key. In such cases, the alarm functions as a auto lock/unlock for the convenience of the driver.

Actually what you meant is 'keyless entry'. It's not the same as alarm. An alarm can work independently of keyless entry, and some cars come with standard factory keyless entry but no alarm.

I find those that beep or chirp when locking/unlocking extremely irritating. Or worse still going off when there is thunder.

But not all cars have keyless entry, especially those low end cars, or older cars. So owners got to fit in the alarm system.

Those beep or chirp alarm sound is not only irritating and can scare a person off also, if the person is caught unaware or even a small kid can get frighten off! [:(]

You can already install aftermarket keyless entry without an alarm.

Those beeps from most alarm are actually quite acceptable. I find those low cost alarms that tap the horn to produce the beep most irritating. You don't know if someone's honking at you or simply unlocking their car with their alarm.

There is always the silent arm/disarm function. It's just that people don't use it.

I use the silent function as I find the constant beeping from every lock and unlock situation is annoying for me.

Yr battery seems it cannot hold a charge anymore. maybe its old?

If yr maintenence free battery is 2 yrs old, its abt time to change already.

Wah see u guys post like now many pple dun even use the alarm anymore.

I never tot of it till I read here.

But its quite true lah. Whenever I hear those car alarm go off, I find it more a nuisance than anything.

But still if I am breaking into a car n the alarm sounds n attracts pples attention to look my way, it wil scare most thieves to run off.

I still arm my alarm when I park overnight or park in an isolated place or in Msia. Oh n my car does hv the immobliser also.

My Optra alarm chirps only when locking. How to disable the chirp????

My Optra alarm chirps only when locking. How to disable the chirp????

Each alarm has their own method to enable and disable the arming sound.

My current system can disable the arming sound directly via the remote without any special method as it is a two way system. I'm assuming that yours is a one way system. I've ran through a few systems and this is what worked for me.

One method that you can try is to insert your car key into the ignition, turn the key to ON and OFF position 5 times in a row without starting the car. If your car responds, then you MIGHT have disabled the chirping.

Another method is that your alarm might be able to disable the chirping via the remote. Insert your car key and turn it to ON position, then press a button on your remote, usually the secondary button. Your car MIGHT respond.

You can also try a combining two of the above methods.

Ultimately, you have to play around with your alarm system. I don't guarantee that this will work in your case as each system varies. It also depends on how risk adverse you are when it comes to experimenting with your car.

Some MF batts are known to die off without showing any prior symptoms at all. Years of usage can be a gauge, but not exactly an accurate one. I myself found my batt dead in the morning after 1 year and 1 month of usage.

I know of one person whose MF batt is still kicking strong even after 6 years. He's still using it now and it's quite amazing.
