For those who encounter stalling problems without check engine light and workshops cannot diagnose correctly even after changing lots of parts, ask your workshop to check if the ECU wiring harness connection is lose.

Just sharing my personal experience with one of my family's cars, a Mazda 3. Encountered strange stalling problems even though the car seemed fine in every other way. The workshop did all the usual diagnostic tests and changed oxygen sensor, spark plugs, MAF sensor, etc., but the problem continued. Finally, they found out that the ECU wiring connection was loose. They managed to do some tweaks to it to hold it on firmly and the problem was solved once and for all. They say this is more commonly found on cars with the ECU located in the engine bay (such as the Mazda 3) as opposed to under the floorboard on the passenger seat, due to the amount of heat the components are exposed to.

Characteristics of such stalling due to loose ECU wiring: No check engine light or fault codes when OBD diagnostic tools plugged in. If there are any such error codes, they are not related and the stalling will continue even after dealing with them. No idling problems - if your car has problematic, rough or erratic idling, you can rule out the problem. Stalling is very "gentle" and quiet, you only notice it once the steering goes dead and all the dashboard lights come on. Usually occurs at very low speeds, mainly when coming back on throttle after a hump or exiting a carpark, or sometimes when coming to a stop, either at the moment when you release the accelerator or tap the brake pedal. Sometimes occurs at random when parked and stationary with engine on.

Apparently you have a part changer doing the work, yr so call mech just don't have the ability to logically diagnose the problem. Keep clear from such shops, they probably don't even own a simple digital voltmeter.

Did u check yr electronic coil pack/distributor?

Changed that too. Cables too. I got a lot of spare parts in my storeroom now due to this problem. Almost can make one new engine.

Sama sama boat la ah brudder. Just relax and drive slowly.

My ECU not in engine bay one. But I'll still go tamper around with it la. Maybe that could be the cause. Haha. Use cable ties can already right?

for me driving slowly is not an issue, problem is one time turning into lane and there was a zebra crossing and engine dead at the moment without brakes and steering control can imagine if someone is crossing at that moment..........

it just dangerous that's all and dare not bring family along and u can cause accident also as u know our people r not so patience will honk u for everything not knowing u have car problem.

that is y i take bus and drive only nearby when less traffic.

refer to bro bicolour, look at all the parts u have change and the cost inccur for items replaced and not in fault and finally found another item that was the problem. did your workshop changes u for all the unnescessary item change?

and lucky for u the problem was resolved but to some of us not so lucky have spend close to 4K but got nothing in return. can imgine some bros out there can't expect to spend like this.(that is why taking bus)

i hope that workshop out there try to understand, not charging us items in which was diagnoses wrongly.

Possibly not as likely then, but still, can ask your workshop about it. In my case they didn't use cable ties, but they added in something else to hold the wires in place. Couldn't really see what it was.

They gave big discounts on some of the parts and completely waived other charges on diagnostics and labour. Also, they put in a lot of effort to get to the bottom of this rare problem, so overall we were quite satisfied.

Yeah, I know what you are saying. I got the same things from other cars too. No choice in this I guess.

Most ws is only trying to make as much $$$ from us. The more parts u change, the more $$$ ty earn from u.

Thats why I only go to ws with a good honest mech. If the mech poor at troubleshooting, u r going to spend a lot more $$$ than needed. And ty make tons of extra $$$ from u at the same time.

My 2007 stream done the same thing. My oil rag was sucked into the air pump where the battery sits and it was blocking the pipe. If you're oil rag has mysteriously disappeared this might be your problem Hope this helps someone

this issue happened to me on the road last week, and for me the issue was a spoilt fuel pump.. had to get the car towed and replaced it at the workshop. repair done within 24 hrs though, free of charge
