Kicakapoo at least still can taste in Mountain Dew. The one extinct is Sinalco. The factory used to be by the river at bendemeer next to the fire station.

Another long lost soft drink is Green Spot Orange, we call it si lang chui 死 人 水 because all funeral visiting serve with only this orange soft drink, the Green Spot Orange factory along Upper Bukit Timah was taken over by Fire Station and currently it turn into a restaurant.

Last time Jolly Shandy was the "in" drink during my generation cos it had alcohol content in it (I think) and we weren't of legal age back then to buy alcohol. Cheap thrill.

Most converted cinema is REX Cinema ... [flowerface]

Its started as a 'live' performance theatre in the 50's and converted to cinema in early 60's. Thats where I watch my first movie "One Armed Swordman" at Rex threater when I was in primary school.

In middle of 70's when 'ice-skating' was hot at Kallang, Rex cinema was converted into a skating ring. After skating die down for few years, the cinema converted to become a church. After which, left vacant for few years and now converted back to cinema showing 'Bangadesh' movies till now... [bounce1]

There are people that don't know what i'm talking about or don't believe me when I tell them there used to be drive-in cinema in Singapore.

1994 Orchard cinema still got circle seats, before the closed and tore it down to build cineleisure.

er, chiong one ah ?? :D SPICA ????

er.. ya,.. [grin]

anyone here tried to make your own rocket before?

what I did was use 2 match sticks (both match heads facing each other), wrap with those silver foil found in a cigarette box and burn the part where the 2 match heads were. one of the match stick can fly pretty far.

I tried with those sparkle wand.. Scrape off (carefully) the burning part and use as "solid fuel"..

Of course all these done in Malaysia nia..

Grrrreeeeen Spot

Don't know why it was named after the orange soft drink

:D

That is my favourite recess game.. Always return to class full of sweat.. [grin]

What I did was flatten the bottle caps, use a scissor and cut into 5 pointed star shape and turn them into ninja weapon.

we practice throwing these ninja darts on a tree trunk.

Can use paper and fold to ninja stars too.. then strengthen the edge with alu foil and stapler.. [grin]

I love these nostalgia threads. I used to play with so many of these toys. Incidentally, the "bomb bags" can still be purchased in Singapore - especially during Deepavali season at the fair. In fact, we just bought a box of these for Deepavali, and didn't finish them all.

I thought I'd mention some other favourite toys that haven't yet been featured:

How many of you also had these?

Takara Robot Watch:

Worked fine until I decided to dip it into water like an idiot.

Bandai Missile Invader:

There was a bug in this one that enabled you to hit the Invader every time without damage - I hit the top score so many times it became unchallenging to continue.

SciSys Travel Mate chess computer:

Dad brought this back from Geneva once, after a WHO junket. Was practically the first of its kind on the market (this was in 1980 or so). The AI wasn't strong, and I handily beat it very soon, even at the hardest levels. The interesting quirk about this device is that when cornered, it would often "cheat", making illegal moves and even denying your own valid moves. Very cool and spookily human. I still have this, in perfect working order with all pieces intact, sitting in my drawer right now.

I also used to have a nice collection of Nintendo Game and Watch-es. I still have my MASK toys - Rhino, Jack Hammer and the piece-de-resistance, Laser Command, in full working order, box and instructions intact.

One game that never be 'outdated' and I had been playing since I was in primary school 40+ years ago ..... [bounce2][bounce2]

"MONOPOLY" ...

Names of streets & places on the board may changed but the rules are the same.. [sly]

Only recently in 2006 came the computer version. [flowerface]

80s where got so cheap .. toward the end, already $3/4 for stall/circle. 90s still got circle in older cinemas but coming up to $7 or $8 when the Yishun 10 came about .. the first true multiplex in SG with 10 screens, ..:) This was the era when film was still used so making multiple copies for multi-screens was big cost and logistic loh ... somemore posters were manually painted , .. but easily overcome in the age of digital. Prince 1 / 2 / Jade was only 3 screening theaters which you find in other places as well like Golden, Princess, etc. IIRC.

If talking about Lido, Orchard, Cathay, yes...

80% of the theatres still cheap.... [flowerface]
