In the running as in? Pool offered him pre contract in Nov. Then once he confirmed not extending with Porto, they put him up for sale, asking for £5m. Host of clubs willing to match this fee to get him in Jan, Pool included.

Now all down to contract terms. If Fernando considering only the monetary side if thing, Pool's offer can't match those from Italy.

From what I know, he has not been earning a lot so far in his career. He is looking to make his last contract a bumper deal. So that's why I feel money will be his primary consideration....

Turbocharged

Do note that even if english clubs can offer the same pay on paper, it will still b less as the tax is more. If mot wrong, for 50k at italy or spain, english club hv to pay close to 100k. Correct me if im wrong.

Yes bro, but 50% was previous tax rate. They have lowered it to 45%.

Surprisingly, Italy tax rate is as high.

In any case, to better Milan's offer, Liverpool have to offer £90kpw before tax. Not sure if we are willing to go that high. I suspect Milan's offer was deliberately leaked by his agent so that everyone will know how much to go in order to get him.

Hearing Arsenal have put Berbatov on the back burner as they have received good news on Jackson Martinez. Martinez has told the club that he wants to join them over anyone else and it's just the fee to be sorted.

They are keen on Costa as well but Costa unlikely to move on Jan.

@XabiAlonso: I'm delighted and honoured to announce that Real Madrid will continue to be my home for another two years.

Finally, no more Alonso coming home story for the next few windows.
