My recent trip up (March skool holiday) was also quite quiet in spite of bus loads of PRCs.

Bought tau sar pia from one of the Jonker Street shop. Lady boss said many many snatch thieves at night, warned us to be extra careful.

No one knows but I noticed lesser crowd during this trip. Enjoy your trip!

Will be going to Melaka soon for business trip with 2 colleagues, staying in novotel. 1st time staying in this hotel here (under Accor group) so I don't think there should be any problem with the stay. But would like to know where to makan good food within walking distance from hotel. If none, then will take car to 'cari makan' (I'm the one driving all the way <_< )

opposite got bah kut teh and porridge ... porridge geylang style with frog leg, varieties of zhi char, open till 3-4am [thumbsup]

walk further toward shopping area in less than 5mins ... got plenty of pub and finger food liao ...

plenty of food to eat around to choose from ... enjoy your stay

Novotel is also my favorite. There are a few good restaurants around the hotel. Tong Sheng is one of them. Marko is good for Noyna food. My favorite is the Porridge Restaurant which only opens at night. The coffee shop behind Straits Hotel is good for Roti Prata. Novotel breakfast is above average. Hope this can guide you.

left side of the car park entrance (toward main road) has dim sum in the morning.

hotel breakfast is RM40 per pax if not included in the room rate [sweatdrop] that is a lot of nasi lemak you can eat [laugh]

Equatorial should be much better.

On the other hand, I find outside hotel food in Melaka not much better now. Quite disappointing especially the dim sum, chick rice.... The zhichar stalls seem quite OK.

I have more urge to go Batu Pahat to makan than Melaka now.

I ever drove ard melaka ard 2am. Surprisingly all closed. Only mcdonald open. I guess they don't have late supper. satay celup only till 1am.

Got la.. the porridge store and alot of asam pedas stores open, but only if u dare, looks dangerous.. i went to one b4.. all eyes on my car.. haha

TBH i only stayed at straits so far, never tried novotel..

As for food reccomendations, yes Tong Sheng for cheese bee hoon, and milk crabs..

Amy's is across the road.. all within walking distance, massage parlours (decent) all just beside.. walking distance to hatten and all..

If u r not a fan of jonker, that area is the best..

The main difference for hotel breakfast in Malaysia, Indonesia is that they are halal. That leaves the pork items and it seems to be missing something. Something = Bacon. Morever, the street food is much nicer in Malaysia and much cheaper. I would usually skip the hotel breakfast for a bowl of hot noodles or bak kut teh.

This BKT is just one street across from Novotel. Opens early.

3A. Teo Chew Bak Kut Teh. Jalan Melaka Raya 4, Opposite IRIS Hotel (The address Melaka Raya 20 on Trip advisor is wrong) Rating 4.05/5

I stayed at Hatten and was too lazy to drive over to Lim Kee in the morning. So followed Trip advisor's lead and checked out the "best" BKT in Melaka. A 10 minutes walk from Hatten. The BKT's herbal taste is lighter than Lim Kee but still the black type. The pig throttles were excellent to go with the yam rice. Perfect comfort food at 8am in Melaka. Why can't we have the same BKT in SGP?

If you don't mind a 20mins walk, Newton Food court has quite a large selection of local food.

The chilli on the Ikan Bakar is simply delish. And cheap.

When walking around Melaka, avoid bringing handbags or slingbags. Just stuff a few RM50 in your pockets and that's all you need.
