efssc 5th Gear March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 That's the trouble with PIs IMO, Guarantee means Guarantee no such thing as top-ups cos precisely it is "Guaranteed to secure a COE" I don't think they have such a clause for Guarantee COE when you buy from AD. Either Guarantee with no top-ups, limits etc or non-guarantee where the amount to bid is up to the AD. No ambiguity nor disputes but thanks to you guys for creating awareness on this, thks!! Been to a couple of ADs as well (been looking at quite a few models ranging from PIs to ADs ), and actually sat down with one to go through his t&c. 3 different packages for the same car (before negotiation). Tier 1, most expensive - 1 bid guaranteed without top-ups, plus freebies amounting up to $8k (I'll spare the details). Tier 2, $5k less than Tier 1 - 3 bids non-guaranteed, plus freebies amounting up to $5k. Tier 3, $5k less than Tier 2 - 6 bids non-guaranteed, plus freebies amounting up to $3k. At the end of the discussion, as I was about to walk out, the Sales pulled me one side and told me, "Boss, for us har, tier 1 or 2 or 3, all sure can get COE one la, I've been here for 3 years already, all my cases all got no matter which tier they go for, sure can one, the only real difference is just how fast you get it, and how much freebies you get."... and honestly, I believe him. Just don't expect him to put it down on writing is all. ↡ Advertisement

No ifs and buts nor conditions. Guaranteed means sure get. If you going to put a limit/top-up to the "Guaranteed COE" then it's not guaranteed anymore so it should not be named as such IMO. Call it a "Limit COE" or something like that. Not trying to run down PIs nor am I saying ADs are the best but this doesn't look right to me but I've learnt something here today thks to you guys which I never knew existed!!
kelvinlbl 1st Gear March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 Depends, is it "4 bid guaranteed COE" or "4 bid guaranteed COE without top-up"? If it's "4 bid guaranteed without to-up" then yes, you'll get it regardless of COE price (assuming the PI honours his words). If it's just "4 bid guaranteed" the PI will tell you what's his cap (clarify with him and have him write it down black and white if he doesn't) and if by the 4th bid all 4 rounds of COE premium are above that cap then you will be asked to top-up. If you choose not to top-up, what happens next will depend largely on what's your agreement with the PI (again, to be written down clearly in black and white). This part will differ between PIs and also dependent on how well you negotiate your sales agreement. Another thing you want to make clear upfront is the rebate. If COE falls below your rebate value, the PI is supposed to refund you the difference, usually dollar-for-dollar. Good luck!! Thanks for all advise, it give me more understanding how it work.

Alansignature 1st Gear March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 There is no such thing as guaranteed COE with rebate and cap. It either guaranteed COE or COE with Cap and Rebate level. not true i think, my understanding is : guaranteed COE with rebate means rebate at a COE price point that below that price point will get rebate in different , with cap means PI will only place your biding bellow that capped amount both parties agreed , hope i am right .
