hi

initially thought of using the roof bike rack system, but realise that XT is quite tall, for a short guy like me, is rather hard to load up 4 bikes using the roof rack (even though it is possible as the XT roof rail can carry up too 100kg).

Try on my ride from my home to East Coast Park. No problem.

hi Michael

me too load up 4 bikes over the weekend, but we travel from the east to bishan ang mo kio park. the drive with 4 bikes (plus 3 adult and 2 boys) is the same, smooth (speed maintain at 80 to 90km/h). by the way, you consider getting any hitch cover? attached photos also my diy hitch cover.post-156194-0-38010600-1457396558_thumb.jpgpost-156194-0-40656800-1457396565_thumb.jpgpost-156194-0-86641000-1457396569_thumb.jpg

Thanks for sharing the valuable info. Got some discount only after hard negotiations. I don't think can go back to ask for the norm discount now ... Sigh.

Did you try with 4 bikes? Any issue?

Anyone try with 4 bikes? Care to share your experiences?

hi there

me just tried loading up 4 bikes (1 x mountain bike, 1x hybrid bike, 1 x fixie bike and 1 x kids mountain bike) over the weekend and travel from the east to bishan ang mo kio park. the drive is pretty smooth, just to slow down when going over any hump. Happy cycling.

That is the most number of bikes I have seen hanging outside a car. Maybe should send the picture to TC to help in their marketing efforts.

Does the 4WD kick in more often? When I look at the load bearing, alot of the load is fulcrum behind the rear axle, it most likely shifted the weight distribution from the front to the rear, potentially lifting the front wheels slightly?

I guess with 4 bikes also means minimum 4 occupants, should help with the car being planted.

What is your real life experience?

No, I had only have 3 bikes. Last sunday I tried out on transporting 2 bikes from Yishun To East Coast. Very stable once you mounted the Rack properly. Even if I sway the vehicle Suddenly also no problem.

Its shouldn't had any problem carrying 4 bikes as it is designed to do so as long it doesn't exceed the Max Load of 68 KG.

Great! Look OK with 4 bikes. Would very much appreciate if someone could share about DIY the rack. Where to get it?

hi

for the hitch type bike rack, you need to install a hitch receiver (you may wanna scan through previous page where there is some information sharing on this).

for the hitch receiver, you may either get it online (from etrailer.com) or like me fabricate locally. for the hitch type bike carrier, there are a few brand available such as thule, Yakima and Hollywood (you may google about it). for Yakima, I got it from LS distribution. hope information is useful (so far have known of 2 other XT installed with hitch type bike rack).

hi

didn't test out with auto mode when I loaded up with 4 bikes. was driving with 2wd, the drive is pretty normal, just feel a little heavy, but still smooth. will try with auto mood next week and update you.

for your locally fabricated hitch receiver, what is the material used? Is it rust resistant?

hi

mine was done with normal cast iron. it was fully painted with anti-rust paint after full welding is done. As our XT only last 10 years (COE, or maybe lesser when change car) I don't see the need to use stainless steel (there are one that use stainless steel and cost double).

Booked after CNY. I like to add a 10pcs CD changer. Not sure if XT original audio can take that.
