To shoot or not to shoot?

IMO for the US shooting, the problem is that in US; it's legal to carry firearms hence the culture and mindset of the policemen that what the child pointed was a real gun and hence they were defensive and were protective of themselves.

Of course you could argue that being trained to assess the situation etc, they could be more restrained but we will never know the real situation they faced and really sad to see the tragic loss of life. Situation here is much different cos it is almost impossible to get hold of firearms in our country and definitely a child would not even know how to handle it so the mindset of the police here would be different as compared to US and that's why I applaud our stand of not allowing firearms, human rights or not!!

The recent loss of lives by crazy gunmen in shooting sprees in the US has got their legislative guys thinking but it's difficult to reverse centuries old rule of a human right to protect himself by allowing firearms in US but they should start somewhere before more loss of lives!!

Sorry man... RIP to the deceased agreed... Coz never good to see someone so young die..

BUT there are a few things in the short report we dont know. Crucially what happened prior to the confrontation for the officer to demand the deceased to raise his hands.. Moreover.. 12yo there and 12yo there different size hor...

I dont think you can say the 12yo is innocent when he tried to take out a toy gun... and why did he have that toy gun in the FIRST place?

just my thoughts

i dunno, but i guess because of the lax gun control and culture in some countries, sometimes police are a bit stressed up when they see a gun.....BUT no matter what, i think the investigating team should look into if the proper rules of engagement has been follow, if yes then ok everything is fine, if not then i further action will be needed to address the wrong. i am not on the scene so i cannot speak for any of the party involved, but i guess if there is NO immediate threat to the public the police maybe can takecover first and then ask for backup, rather than handling everything by himself?

Sad news to read for the Morning. The officer made a judgement call too soon... It wld be terrible to live with the guilt of killing a young innocent child ... RIP to young deceased...

Wrong place at the wrong time :(

With so many school gunshots in US, the police are taking a stance of shoot first before the attacker kills more ppl .. and that will explain the reasoning behind this case..

However, the bottomline should be, why allow guns to be accessible to the public?

Anyway, RIP to the young boy ...

Nov 14, Cleveland USA. When in the US, obey whatever what the cops say. Over there it is not like SG.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/11/23/12-year-old-boy-brandishing-fake-gun-at-rec-center-dies-after-being-shot-by/

A 12 year old boy brandishing a replica gun died Sunday after being shot by a Cleveland police officer responding to a 911 call about a person waving a gun in a park.

Deputy Chief Ed Tomba said the officer fired twice after the boy pulled the fake weapon -- which was lacking the orange safety indicator usually on the muzzle -- from his waistband.

The boy, who was 12, did not make any verbal threats toward the officer or point the gun, but reached into his waistband and grabbed it after being told to raise his hands, Tomba said.

"That's when the officer fired," he said.

Well....the state of Ohio's constitution acknowledges the right to keep and bear arms.

Not exonerating this unfortunate act of pre-emptive shooting but if I polis occifer working in this state, I oso paranoid lo.

Twincharged

with the new 3D printing technology, people can print whatever weapon they want.

if it looks too real, sorry that you were shot dead!

Did some research about 3D printed guns before and its not that easy. The only 3D printers that can print accurately enough to make a functioning gun are those industrial types that cost hundreds of thousands. Got that kind of money, probably easier to just buy the guns or smuggle them. Its also easier and cheaper to use a CNC machine if you really want to make your own gun.
