Car-sharing does not reduce road use

For such huge population, HDB can build 60 storeys flats, SMRT can enlarge station platforms for super long queues, two couples can share one flat:- first couple works dayshift, comes home to sleep at night, second couple works nite shift, sleep at home in the day. 6.5m can easily be upped to 10m... [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Schools run 24 hours, day-sessions, and nite sessions.

Geylang maybe also 24 hours!!

no wonder call super7

really is super work 7 days a week 24 a hours a day [laugh]

as for road space ie road usage:- 10 drivers driving their own car each will result in a total of 10 car-trips. if these 10 drivers take turns to share one car, it will also result in 10 car-trips, same as the case of each driving his own car. if these 10 drivers do car-pools of say 4 persons per car, it will result in only 2.5 car-trips

10 drivers take turn to share 1 car results in 10 car trips, but 100 sharing 10 cars will results in 100 cars trips. So if the government are to put out 1 car for sharing, they have to take away 9 coes so as not to worsens congestion. Better not la.

But car pooling is good, imagine when having foursome, you just pay for 1 hotel room, efficient! [laugh]

Car-pool is better than Car-share in terms of both road usage and car park usage.

Car-share is in turn better than individually-owned cars, at least in terms of the need for parking spaces for the cars. 10 individually owned cars need 10 lots, 1 car shared by 10 drivers needs only 1 lot.

For some reasons, LTA don seems to encourage electric cars, diesel cars and electric bicycle. There are also electric scooters that takes less road space and can travel 40 -50 km/ charge. How come they don like all these?

You ask Tuck Yew lor.

Just saw this car sharing lots together with charging points at AMK Ave 10 car park near Teck Ghee CC. Seems like it’s for electric cars n another step closer to car lite.

U are right on previous car sharing schemes but this time the will of the govt is strong n they are determined to make this car lite work but then again I think this Bluesg is a private run organisation so bottom line counts unless govt subsidise them?

There is a similar setup at Tan Quee Lan street carpark (opposite Bugis Junction) as well.

Seems like they are sprouting up everywhere. Just showed a friend n he told me Stanley Street near Amoy Food Centre also have one. That one for the Financial District guys.

You are right, the will of the garment is very strong until they reduce to zero vehicle growth rate. But this doesnt mean the car lite will be successfully lo. In the end, it might lead to more problems and suffering of the people here.

No shelter for the electric charging point. It will get spoiled in no time with constant exposed to rain and sun. Should build shelter so as the equipment will not be damaged by the weather.

Electronic equipment leh. How to be weather proof? At least build a metal shade shelter La. Imagine the cost of constantly need to replace the charging equipment is more then a simple shelter in long run.

Go and solve more important issues like againg population and technological changes in workforce, rather than creating more problems with this car lite crap.  [thumbsdown]

I just hope that these charging ports will be open up to other privately owned electric cars as well and pay as per charge use.

It is a large scale electric car sharing program by LTA. To promote car sharing, at the same time, help to build up the charging stations in Singapore.
