Celicar Turbocharged December 19, 2014 Share December 19, 2014 My question to LTA and garment is was our tax money used to build this app and what is the objective of this app? If our tax money was used to make this, then this app should be build to serve the public to the fullest. Making an app that doesnt serve us purposefully, it means they have misuse our tax money. its like using our tax money to make a public playground for kids, but the slides are made halfway, the rocking horse doesnt rock, the steps are missing. Yeah, you can see the playground, but cannot play to the fullest. Who is going to answer this? Transport Minister? I think your line of query applies for anything that our tax money was used for, not just this app. I think the analogy to playground facilities is not totally apt, because the things you mentioned have certain commonly accepted functions. An app, can however be intended for many possible intentions and LTA has come out to state what they intend the app to do. The disagreement is about the app's usefulness which in itself is subjective. To the point about usefulness or serving the public to the fullest, can I even say, to begin with, that because by sheer numbers there are more bus commuters, that an app to show bus locations should be made instead of this taxi app? Can I object to this if I don't take cabs? The point is, there is a level of subjectivity in this evaluation. Is the app so objectionable that it amounts to a misuse of tax money? Was there dishonesty or breach of trust? Of course, there needs to be accountability and everyone has and is entitled to an opinion. Perhaps in your view the LTA should be taken to task over this, that is certainly a valid opinion, but may not be held by everyone, I for one do not think this way. And to be clear, I wish to discuss the issue, it is nothing personal.

Duckduck Turbocharged December 19, 2014 Share December 19, 2014 (edited) http://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=a4e14d79-21c8-49b5-b561-4326fe09af02 Said LTA’s Group Director for Innovation and Infocomm Technology Mrs Rosina Howe-Teo, “This is part of LTA's on-going efforts to explore innovative solutions to meet various transport needs. Here, we are translating data gathered from the six taxi companies on the locations of their 28,000 taxis into useful information to better match the demand and supply of taxi services. Commuters who wish to hail a taxi can get a quick sense of the number of available taxis near them, and decide whether it may be better to book a taxi instead. Mrs Howe-Teo already say.. the app to help people decide if they should book a taxi instead.. even if the app shows there are many taxis around and you are still not able to hail any, its not their problem. the app only "help you to decide" what you want to do only.. so... LPPL in fact when there is a long queue at the taxi stand in town, some people still book a taxi because its still faster.
