In one selfie, posted on Instagram, staff in scrubs appeared to stand around a candlelit birthday cake – with an apparently unconscious patient lying on a bed behind them.

I'm sorry but I beg to differ, law enforcers need to be flexible at times. Sad to say, the front-line police now lack the "instinct" to perform their job "professionally". I had been an officer for 6 years. Handcuffs are not supposed to be used indiscriminately. Though they are accused, they are only suspects until proven guilty in the Singapore court. They are handcuffed to prevent escaping from police custody, hurting themselves or others.

I don't know the full story but from the picture, there were 3 police officers at scene with so many KPOs around... Having said that, it is hard to believe that the juveniles were trying to escape from police custody. If police wish to restraint them, there is always the option of a flex-cuff. There are many ways to "teach" a kid a lesson but not in full public view. Even as an adult, we don't wish to have our bosses "scolding / humiliating " us in front of the whole "world" so why the double-standard?

Crime doesn't pay but let the court decides the suitable punishment for kids.

I agreed with you.

One simple way is to place the boy at the back seat of the police car with the 'child-lock' in place with one police officer to look after. So many officers standing outside for what ? Only need one or two officers to conduct interview witnesses and afterall they have 4 at the scene.

Solve all problem and also at least save the boy face from those on-lookers handphone cameras .... -_-

Thats what I called "Professionalism" in carrying out one duty.
