Anyone has recently bought any speakers (non-atas) which has a white and red hole behind ? I wish to find one to connect to a turn table, the old type which plays record one. My old man bought one from mustaffa and his speaker cannot connect, cos the turntable comes with a pair of red and white cable, and the speakers doesn't have them. I don't know nuts about these things, hope to help him as he is quite disappointed. Pls share which brand\model can buy, and how much. Thanks.

Generally, the turntable will have to connect to an amplifier, and the output from the amplifier goes to the speaker.

Thanks, yes he connected to an amplifier, but it wont work. Cos the manual of the turntable says it has a built in amplifier in it, and cannot connect to an amplifier, else it wont work. So we cannot connect directly to the amp, that's why need to connect directly to speakers.

I really need to help source for a speakers but not expensive one.

You mean bring it to mustaffa ? I never thought of that, if really no solution then will bring there and ask the salesman and buy a suitable pair of speakers there then. Besides mustaffa anywhere sells many speakers , non-atas ones ?

I believe you need active speakers instead of the normal passive type if you do not want to go through an amp. See if this YouTube video applies.

To connect a turntable to an amp, the amp need to have a phono input.

Thanks for the video ! Now I can confirm it is indeed the speakers must have the red\white input, call the rca input, to produce the sound. The one we have don't have them, that's why. Looks like will have to go buy new speakers with rca port. Thanks a lot to all replies. Just to add, anyone has recommendation for reasonably nice sound speakers but not expensive ? Entry level but sound acceptable ? My dad's only interest is listen to very old Chinese songs on records.

But then since you already have an amp, i think it will be cheaper to get a phono preamp to connect connect your turntable to the amp as what Roadrunner suggested instead of buying new speakers...

What kind of turntable comes with amp? You can try to run the rca into your amp n on both at the lowest volume n adjust up slowly, it got to be very low. Otherwise get a active speaker.

Personally if I can change it, I would and get something to work with your amp if you have phono or get a nice phono preamp. Of course if it's at a vey good price, then different story.

TS, your current speakers may not have the RCA jacks but surely they must have wires sticking out of it. Unless they are bluetooth or wireless speakers. It will be cheaper/easier to just strip the end of the speaker wire and connect it to a RCA jack. If your speaker instead have clip connectors, get a length of wire, strip the tips and insert into them and connect the other end to a RCA jack.. Normal lamp cord like the black/red type will do. If your turntable connectors are male type, then buy the female connector for the speaker. Its same if its the reverse. You can find/buy these connectors and lamp cord from Mustafa at the basement section. They come in packs hanging on the racks. They won't cost more than $10 in total.

Hey you are right, our speakers is the two strip of wire kind and not the RCA jack, thats why cannot connect. We tried to connect the tt to an amplifier but the manual says as the tt has a built in amp (the tt brand is neco), it cannot be connected to an amp. I agree what you said about stripping and connecting into a rca jack, but i am lazy and unskilled to do that, so I decide to just buy a new pair of speakers with rca input to solve the problem. Am checking ou Creative speakers that cost less than $200.

Nothing to do with active or passive speakers. You need a phono preamp which was standard in older amplifiers and receivers up to 1980's and maybe early 90's, but you will no longer find them in those built in last 10-20 years. Get a separate phono preamp to connect to your amplifier or active speakers.

If the turntable has built-in preamp, then just connect to a regular line-in (CD in, AUX in, DVD in, ..) on all amplifiers.

We connected the turntable to a marantz amplifier (very old kind), into a phono red and white ports, and the amp connected to the speakers (using split wires), but no sound comes out from the speakers. Thats the problem we faced. But the tt cannot be connected directly to the speakers as it doesnt have the rca jack, only allow split wire input. I also tried the line-in for CD, Tuner etc but also no sound.
