There u go bro..

JDM WRX:

2L FA20 engine: http://www.subaru.jp/wrx/s4/spec/ecology.html

300bhp: http://www.subaru.jp/wrx/s4/spec/spec.html

JDM STI:

2L EJ207 engine: http://www.subaru.jp/wrx/sti/spec/ecology.html

308bhp: http://www.subaru.jp/wrx/sti/spec/spec.html

The STI is slow and thirsty by todays standard!

FHI pls do something abt it immediately!!!!

STi are for hardcare drivers.... who probably doesn't care less for fuel consumption.

just like Civic Type R drivers don't care less for comfort...

EJ engine is tried and tested reliable for racing/rallying. maybe Subaru just don't trust their FA that much yet.

Wao, could feel your excitement!

Meaning, for city driving in short bursts better to use S?

How much to top up for motul oil?

Yup. S mode is for quick burst of speed. Its works in city or hw. If u need to quickly accelerate at high speeds in hw e.g. 110km/h to 130km/h or faster. In I mode the acceleration is more gradual. U dun feel much surge in quick acceleration.

But of course must drive safe la. I seldom use S mode since honeymoon period over. It's meant for emergency and fun only...

Motul 300v top up is about $76 with gst. It's 5w40 grade though, but it's surprisingly fuel efficient.

Anyone saw this video of Motul 300V burning (turned black very quickly), isn't it bad for engine?

BTW is it possible to buy oil yourself and pass to them, or they will insist they will use their own?

Hi all Forester owners,

I have a question..my CFO aka wife..ask me if the latest Forester have the side door beams.

Her friend in Australia mentioned that their models there have them...

Is it something like this ?

http://lmsb-brunei.com/assets/files/8d/650d10c44740efbef881307f4bccb8.jpg

Those who did sound proofing or change speakers on the doors spotted the beams ?

Got pics?

Cos she ask the SE from TPY and LK and they don't have a clue...

Sorry if this has been answered...

Thanks all in advance...

Side Door Reinforcement Beams

Reinforcing beams have been added within the door frames, which help prevent distortion to the cabin during side collisions and ensure the safety of passengers sitting inside.

taken from

http://www.subaru.asia/sg/en/subaru-difference/safety.php?id=passive

So i expect this would be available across the board for all vehicle from Subaru, and it is very surprising SE don't know about that.

Package don't come with Engine flush?

I am thinking to go with Motul also once i go for service (although i still need to get keys for my car, very excited).

It was recommended to flush out the old oil completely. But not sure if that's SOP for oil change or because it was my 10k servicing.

I think it is, for my MIT lancer whenever they change oil they will flush it out (at extra cost).

I don't think the object of the test is to show the oil turning black. The temperature temperature the oil was subjected to was 1,000 oC. This is way above the operating temperature in the vehicle.

I think that the point the video was trying to make was that even at such high temperature the oil will not boil to to a crisp, have no residue and remain liquid - which is a good property.

I got my car for 2 weeks and was turned off with the high pitch horn [shakehead]  [shakehead] .

Wanted to get the Hella Supertone but was a bit expensive. So decided to use the Stebel Magnum 2 which I installed in my previous car 10 years ago and did a small mod. Now it is louder and no longer high pitch.  [drivingcar]

Nice upgrade. :D

I think many of us feel this way too. I've since changed mine too. Within a week of ownership.

I beat you on this, changed on the 2nd day of ownership.

Bought the Hella supertone even before collection of my car.

Went for the new owner workshop last Sat. The trainer says that during highway drive, "S" mode is better fuel efficient than "I" mode. "I" mode should use during city driving. FNA btw.

I feel the opposite actually. At 90km/l on the highway, "S" mode is about 2200rpm, while "I" mode is only 1500rpm or lower. At the same constant speed, I would think that lower rpm uses less fuel. Just like cycling, cruising at high speed, when you go up to highest gear ratio, you cycle less for same speed. That's efficient.

Remember some other bro described this as well before. City driving I would use "S" mode, for better pickup while "I" mode during highway cruising. Somehow I feel this way would give better FC and driving pleasure.

We can also use the paddles at "D". Doesn't have to be at Manual mode. Use the "-" paddle to create the engine braking while slowing down, so you dun use the brake pads as much, especially downhill driving.

While driving at "I" mode at highway, I can use the "-" to downshift so as to pick up speed to do overtaking or such. Doesn't have to switch to "S" mode to do that or stomp down on the right pedal. (Ok, FXT-ers probably dun need this. )

Many of us had been driving auto for some time and forgot the fun to drive manual. I did not think that I would use the paddles ever, until I discover I can use it at "D" to complement my auto driving. Using the paddles does add a bit of fun to the driving. Try it, drive safe.

Anyone can relate to this as well? [drivingcar]

I attended the same workshop. The FXT group by the head of technical say should use S mode both highway and city driving. The only time to use I mode is when you are caught in the jam at causeway/custom.

He says S mode results less carbon deposit thus will be more fuel efficient. He added that we should also just use 95 instead of 98 petrol. And will get better fuel consumption.

I changed to S mode since then. But already 3/4 tank left when I changed. Somehow, it is still better FC! Surprised! Yes, I do observe that most of the time the RPM is about 2000. But somehow the FC is better. Anyone can explain this? Higher rpm yet better FC?

Will verify again for my next tank with 95 petrol.

EJ engine is tried and tested reliable for racing/rallying. maybe Subaru just don't trust their FA that much yet.

Its not that.. What I meant was modern performance vehicle should be powerful yet efficient. There are many such examples out there today. Look at Merc CLA45/A45, Audi S3, VW golf R etc... They are all more powerful and yet more efficient than the new "old" STI.

The EJ series engine is one of the most unreliable performance engine ever. I'm driving a WRX and it failed at $130k++ km. The usual con-rod bearing failure. This engine can't be driven at very high engine speed for a prolong period of time.. I was playing with a GTR on NSHW till die on me! There are plenty of such failure worldwide.. U may wanna do a goggle search on "EJ rod bearing failure" u will learn more abt this engine from there

Attached are some photos of my failed engine! Cost me nearly $10k for the rebuilt!

If the only time to use I mode is in a jam, and S mode for everything else, its unthinkable that Subaru made I mode the default mode everytime we start the car. In short, I think there is more to it
