Elegant auto is also used by Nissan

Now the Hyundais are competitive in terms of the multimedia entertainment system. This leaves only Kia with mini screens. I believe my Sonata is the first batch to use that 8" screen... I think the upgrade price is $888. Seems like they're using this head unit is used for all models now with the top trim getting it as a standard feature and the lower trims as an option.

AS pointed out by another bro, the company that fixes this head unit is based in the Komoco workshop second level. I was driven up to talk to the tech last week.

The company that imports this unit into Singapore is called Elegant Auto. You can search for the address I posted in the Sonata thread. You can call them or go down to update stuff. If you're waiting for Apple or Android in your car, you can check with them if new firmware is available and if it could be simply flashed into your unit for a fee.

alamak !

the guys in QQ forum says the HU are china made.

quality so-so only.

Most of them are stuck with it because if change HU , then they could not use the steering wheel  HU controls.

I don't know if the Sony HUs are installed by them or not. It's the current 8" units that are installed by them It's simply called Elegant Auto with some code at the end.

All head units are China-made... the quality is pretty ok. Not the best obviously but it does what it is supposed to do. The touch screen is resistive.

anyone tried to stiffen your suspension for the Tucson? do you find that the ride in Tucson is little bit bumpy/bouncy for normal street road due to Tucson suspension is tune more to off road condition?

Test drove the Tuscon recently and quite happy with the whole setup.

The entrance to the car is higher than my current SUV.

Its almost at my knee level (I am short).

For kids and old people I foresee they will spent a bit of effort to get in the car.

Does Komoco sell & install the side step or i have to go 3rd party?

Anyone done this and how much roughly (I expect just the kit itself is ~$500 if 3rd party but from dealer is  30-50% higher?)

Test drove the X Trail and I find the engine & noise insulation better on Tuscon.

Hmm.

I just test drove most of the suv. Maybe I can comment.

TOP 3 choices was Tucson. X-trail and outback.

All 3 about same price same omv. So pretty much Apple to Apple.

A few take away

Xtrail

3row seat is pretty useless unless you have v young kids. Even my Wife 1.5m got problem fitting in. But useful for for emergencies.

Seats are the most comfy. And best in terms of drive comfort. Good family car. Very underpowered.

Outback

Most impressive boot space and rear leg room. And I mean huge.

Longest of the 3. And 2.5L. So road tax Chor. And the HU seems v primitive. No navigation etc. Rather Spartan Interior.

Tucson.

Nothing much to fault. But then again doesn't have anything that is particularly outstanding.

The most impressive feature seems to be the reverse cam in rear view mirror which was quite cool.

Compared to the other 2, Tucson is a jack of all trade but master of none.

Personally find it the most good looking though. Lol.

2L is the same size as the 1.2T. And price wise is abt x trail but much smaller.

Not worth.

I've test drove QQ 1.2T, XTrail, Forrester (NA) and Tuscon.

QQ : disappointing. no rear leg room, interior looks flimsy. Open up the bonnet and I see a messy setup. Maybe the 2.0 interior is better quality? But the rear leg room problem should be the same.

XTrail : could be due to the test car - the enginee. was noisy under moderate acceleration, and the doors feel light. 3rd row seat is crampy, and I would leave them down all the time to form a boot anyway. Spacious. interesting to see a drink chiller feature but then will it cause condensation? :P

I cannot find a comfy position for the driver seat despite it is the 'zero gravity seat'

Forrester NA : drives fine. Drove over a pot hole and cannot feel much. :) acceleration is adequate.

high 'lip' for entrance to vehicle.

Tuscon : drives fine. Engine is quiet and insulation from external noise is on par with Forrester and better than the other  two. Gadget wise may fall short of Forrester (?) e.g no AWD, no voice recognition but got GPS. Got electronic parking brake - not sure if it is actually a good idea. Prefer mechanical ones that I can feel and hear the sound when I engage the handbrake :)

high 'lip' for entrance to vehicle. Tuscon is the widest of all (based on spec)

Brain says Forrester for it is ~10k$ cheaper than the Tuscon. The 10k$ = 2 years of petrol for me.

Hearts says Tuscon for its nicer look.

Wanted to try the Kia Sportage and they just got the new model, available for test drive only 1-2 weeks later. But I don't like the front grill design and the new head lights so I wont consider it.

Forester is comparable to Tucson but Tucson interior is much better. If you opt for the sunroof version it comes plenty of features. After driving for more than a month, I am still loving it. It is the best noise insulation car I have ever driven.

Yes I found Tucson suspension is soft and bouncy, so I had installed spring stiffener to all 4 springs.

It Improved a lot. Also would help absorber to last longer.

My ex-ride also did installed spring stiffener, the original set of absorbers r still in good shape throughout it 9.8years life.

Spring stiffeners, spring clamps, and the likes of these stuff, are NOT recommended to be used. They change the travel of the springs but do not change the spring rate. Springs and dampers work together and are normally paired in such a way that they perform optimally. Making such adjustments potentially affect the handling and road holding ability of your tyres.

If you want to "stiffen" your ride, do consider coilovers or replacing them with stiffer springs and dampers.

You've got to compare the same trim levels for the Forester & Tucson. Cos the price points are comparable.

Forester XT vs sunroof Tucson.

Forester Premium vs base trim Tucson.

One of the pertinent things to look for is the cost of the car versus the OMV.

If you compare the two top trim models, based on Sgcarmart, the Tucson is cheaper with higher OMV. This means that you get more back when you scrap the car. Depreciation is lower overall.

Also, the top trim Tucson has more safety features built-in which probably accounts for the higher OMV whereas the Forester XT has more cosmetic features which are probably locally fitted so that it has a lower OMV.

Overall the Tucson seems to be better value despite the much higher horsepower of the Forester XT. Of course you're looking at significant increased fuel consumption. Driving a 2.0 L car entails substantially higher fuel consumption already, and the turbo just exacerbates the problem.

And for me, the safety features win out plus the much nicer Tucson design. The Forester still looks rather dowdy. The Tucson looks modern and muscular.

Your mileage may vary... just my two cents.

I didn't compare the base trims cos I feel that the extra $10,000 is worth paying as the extra safety features are very important. Now that I have driven my Sonata for over a month, the blind spot detector is really useful, as are the front parking sensors since the car is so big. Same will go for the Tucson or Forester which are almost as large.
