I today check with the SE, but she say not S-Tronic Design, but anyway what difference between Design trim and not, memory seats/rims/chrome parts?

The difference between Design and non-design is mainly cosmetic like chrome tailpipe and radiator in titanium black. I have physically seen the two versions and I have to say that the Design spec definietly looks very much "swee-er" than the normal variant.

However, it all boils down to whether you want to folk out $10K more to get the design version as the basic function and engine spec are essentially the same. For me, I would rather get the normal spec and fork out $7.5K for the VC because thats what you get to see everyday!

I think memory seats for driver is the only non aesthetic related feature found not found in the base trim. The rest are mostly cosmetics.

I am not sure now if ONLY design trim has the full chrome Audi grille in front.. because my base trim came with it (different package then). Even for this item as well as other cosmetic items from the Design trim, you can retrofit them easily outside at a fraction of the cost.

The grille, due to its size, may be the most costly one, I estimate $1K at least for the whole chrome grille

Another item I think crucial to make the car nice is the chrome U shaped matt steering wheel trim.. only $150 no brainer must have.

Chrome tail pipe can buy $30 from SE.

The other cosmetic items didn't appeal to me.. so the $10K price is really bo hua.

VC is good & worth it, if you don't mind waiting.

Personally, Design trim makes the car feel more luxurious with more chrome parts + memory seat.

Base trim is good for everyday drive.

Engine and performance no diff.

But to each his own.10K can be peanuts to some bros here.. haha

VC on the other hand is nice but indent of 6 months.

Eventually more A4s on the road more n more WS will be able to mod and more parts available other than PA.

All the chrome/cosmetic parts unique to the design trim can be retrofitted easily locally.. I reckon a total cost of less than $2500.

The only thing unable to retrofit is probably the memory seat (driver) and the faux leather trim on the centre gear console (where knees may rest)

Even after paying extra $10k for the Design trim, the new A4 looks too plain. The 17" rims still too tiny.

I would take the base trim n go outside to do it up swee swee w 18 or 19" rims and a set of Caractere or ABT body kit. And prob still hv spare change for teh tarik.

17" for this class seems to be standard. C-class, 3 series also the same. Certain conti marques move up 1 more segment also still 17" only haha.

For A4 / 3er / C-class segment, I really think 18" minimum to have a nice stance.

S-line side skirts only $650.. Wanted stock OEM look so I dropped front lip & rear diffuser.

Audi original sports pedals $400+ (not in Design trim)

Chrome steering wheel trim $150 (Design trim have)

18" rims & CSC5 tires around $1800

My base trim comes with the Audi full chrome grille so no need zhng this

Total around $3000.. left $7000 to buy teh tarik  [laugh]

Waiting for exhaust mod & MTM/Revo custom tune (PA in house tuner) to come out!!!

After that probably still have $2000 left lol.

Neutral Newbie

Although design trim is 10k more, the difference in depreciation may not be as large due to the lower CEVS rebate of 5k which will result in higher PARF value.

Greetings to all bros here

Shall wait until Audi Driving Experience next Wed to get behind the wheels of the brand new A4, sales staff had initially called me to arrange for test drive, but thought this event would be good as you get longer time spent driving the car. Paid $250 for the event, hopefully got nice buffet. Lol

Just to check, would packages/selling price varies a lot should we try to talk to different sales reps?

Hey guys! Just went to Audi earlier today to check out the a3 sports back. It was pretty good, the drive and all.. However, I Needed something bigger and was introduced to the A4. Love everything that's happening inside the cabin.. But I do prefer the a3 Aircon vents style and also the way the MMi folds back into the dashboard... Lol..

But that aside, I really wanna ask you guys,

1) what's the fc like for the a4 1.4?

2) what are the common problems for Audi?

3) how to bargain with the SE?

4) what kind of freebies are expected? Or what should I ask for? (Did you have to take the 50/60% loan in other to get them?, I might not want to take so high loan and ot so much every month)

5) is it standard that it comes with 3 yr warranty and 3 yr servicing?

6) I keep seeing talk about the virtual cockpit, so awesome ah? Must get addon? Lol..

Hope to hear from you guys soon! :) I didn't get a chance to talk to my SE earlier, hence the questions here.. But better to know here, then can bomb and bargain her later.. Don't play play!

that's a very valid point. thanks for bringing up!

this means the actual design trim is $7.5k more expensive assuming we get back more $2.5k in PARF?

(edited)

1. fc for me is around 13+ km/l for mostly highway. my worst is 11.95km/l. all manual calculation. on board usually higher by 1km/l

2. so far still new. so no problems. dare not say so much here later my resale value affected  hehehehehhe

3. squeeze him dry! now is buyer's market!

4. common ones are chrome trim, chrome tip, solar film, welcome lights, car mat, IU cover with audi logo. i think loan minimum $50k? unsure about this need to confirm with SE.

5. 3 yr wrty seems standard. but the servicing (dunno if std or not) is in fact only 3 times servicing. 1/yr or 15,000km

6. our group only got one champion with VC. every now and then i will relook at the pics he posted. so ya, its awesome!

I have a friend who decided on the A3 instead of A4. It's really up to your feel and test drive both to help in decision making :D

A3 is using the infamous 7DSG dry clutch from VW hor.. open eyes big big & see before committing. If you want to know about this, visit VAGSG forums.

It's not that I want to talk bad things about A3 but sometimes people confuse the gearbox as the same but actually A4 uses a redesigned new 7 speed wet clutch meant for mid range models & higher so the torque limit is higher.

That said, new transmission & wet clutch doesn't mean problem free.. just a lot lesser than the infamous 7DSG dry clutch. Before anyone say I claim Audi to be problem free, it's not :p

Good point.

That said.. Design trim is only worth it if the buyer really needs the memory seat since it's harder to retrofit. Cosmetic items can retrofit easily outside at probably 1/3 of the costs.

1) what's the fc like for the a4 1.4?

Trip computer states 13.9km/L, 80% highway, 20% city driving, on 18" rims, highway routes gives me 15km/L easily, even when I drive faster I still get 13.5km/L lol. Tried driving conservatively for a full tank & netted 780km before fuel light came up.

2) what are the common problems for Audi?

Common problems for Audi is the same as with other German marques. This new A4 has a newly designed wet clutch transmission so it should be better. Plus on new MQB-Evo platform (weight savings, better handling) + updated engine on a higher tuned 1.4L unit with more aluminium used in the setup.. All in all, looks good on paper but car is too new to judge for now.

4) what kind of freebies are expected?

1 year road tax, insurance rebate $500, 3 years warranty, 3 x free servicing for 15K/30K/45K, front camera, solar film, floor mats, IU cover, chrome exhaust tip.. standard stuffs.

- I didn't want the front camera so I asked SE to give me the Audi entry light (underneath door)

-You cannot bargain much on the nett price / freebies but you can try with your used car value. I did for mine.. for extra $5000.

My inputs.

Frankly, the FL A3 looks beri good. Lines are tauter than the A4 and the zig-zag headlights and VC will be avail. Easily wins hands down against the A180, 1-series, V40 in terms of design.

My only grouse is the dry 7-spd dsg and FWD.

My other concern if considering A3 besides the 7DSG (dry clutch) would be the 3 cylinder 1.0TFSI, similarly found in current A1 sportback (10.9s century sprint).

A1 vs A3 weight difference around 200KG.

U mean the FL A3 is gonna be downsized to 1.0L?
