Need some opinion on my 2009 Passat 1.8 TSI 6 speed auto.

Is this a software issue or gearbox slippage?

6th gear - 1,800rpm - 100km/h

Kickdown to 4th gear - 3,400rpm - speed remains constant at 100km/h, unable to pick up speed

'Check engine' light comes on thereafter

Trouble starting engine - starts only after 3 seconds.

Check spark plugs and coil packs. Is your servicing due?

I experienced the same + engine went into limp mode, no more than 40km/h, vibration all over, slowly change lane to road shoulder, restart engine, it all went well. Drove home slowly and back to my workshop next morning, realised it's spark plugs and coil packs worn out.

Thanks, @Audi2016, @Keithchue, @ER-3682

It has been diagnosed as a faulty fuel pump.

Had it replaced for >$2K.

What else was changed besides the fuel pump? 2k sounds crazy. Had mine LPFP (this is the in tank fuel pump) changed last year and it cost me about $600, this is inclusive of low pressure fuel sensor and a new fuel filter. Driving a MK5 GTI btw.

2k does sound kind of steep. Done in AD?

Done at AD. Expensive but I did not want to compromise on a ctitical part. Parts like Shock absorb erp, I got it replaced outside.

Sorry to interupt but being a newbie, not sure what is meant by AD?

I just got a 2010 VW Passat 1.8 too so now checking out where is good place for servicing & repairs.

Engine oil evaporation seems to be quite high as I had to refill oil after getting this warning 2 times already over 1 mth.  Stationary move off on warmed up engine also get some stutter before it becomes smooth.  Time to see doc.

Neutral Newbie

Driving Passat B8 for 6-7 weeks now. The "new car smell" that you describe is gone within a week.

1st day use normal water wipe entire car inside. First week we air it always(e.g. open window on first 10 minutes of driving), and  drive to reservoir on weekend and open all window while eating sandwich (outside of course). Then I also have 2 charcoal bag at the back seat.

I am very sensitive to these type of smell (e.g. when I go into a newly renovated place / office, will get headache), so I am pretty sure the smell will be gone after a week if you air it properly.
